This old form of jazz goes back to the 30's and 40's & was called 'Swing'. My mom used to go to Roseland Ballroom on Saturday nights to dance and listen to the 'Big Bands' of the time. When they took a break, a female soloist would take the stage with a minimal amount of musical accompaniment and sing songs like this.
