When I was kid until I was 12-13 I thought the song said "With 400 Children and a crop in the field"

Me too!!🤣🤣🤣
If you haven't heard Coward of the County then you should definitely check that out. He is one of the absolute best at storytelling songs. The Greatest and Buy Me a Rose are really good ones that are some of his later works.
I love his original version of this. It's stronger, clearer, & has more passion. To me, live versions are fun. But, to hear a song the way it was intended for the masses, is usually my favorite version.

There's only one artist that I liked his live versions better than his studio versions- John Denver.

No kidding. Who in hell wants to hear hundreds of bad singers singing. That’s not what I paid for.
I seen Kenny Rogers twice in the 80s he was huge in the music industry Wild bill
Ray Charles was the reason he wanted to be a singer he saw Ray in a concert when he was a kid .
Used to work in an old Diesel Mechanic Shop, the old boss used to always walk through singing *"You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel!"*

Rueben James is another great song that most reactors aren’t aware of.

Yes! Its one of my favorites! My sis and I used to cry our eyes out to this one.
I loved this song as a child, but my parents still laugh how I thought "four hungry children" was "four hundred children".

That's how I heard it as well (when I was in grade school)
"She believes in me" and "You decorated my life" are two of my favorites from him
It was the years of "free love" and exploration in a time before AIDS. Women went to bars to find someone to go to a motel for an hour or so. It was a new phenomenon at the time. They were strangers who met in a bar and decided to go to a motel without strings attached until her husband came in... Would love to see your reaction to his songs from before he went country. 'Dropped In to See what Condition My Condition Was In' when he was with the First Edition. 😂 Another awesome Kenny song is Ruben James. It's another song that was made into a movie much as the Gambler was.

Kenny Rogers' "LADY" written by Lionel Ritchie❤
Awesome! Saw him in concert in West Palm Beach, Florida
As far as live versions go this is one of the better ones. The song started by saying she took off her ring. So he knew she was "taken". I love Kenny's showmanship. :)
Yeah, I love swaying to this song 😊 awesome stage presence 😊
I seen him in concert a few yrs ago. He was absolutely fantastic!
The original version is much clearer and not any joking..it is a serious song..js✌️💞
If you want have some fun watching the late Mr. Rogers kick backside doing gospel music, check out this version of "Children, Go Where I Send Thee," a capella with Home Free. Unreal. I think he was already unwell when he recorded this, and he still sounds like a powerhouse. This stuff will bring you to church. ;-) kzread.info/dash/bejne/oWilsMN6nL2XqMY.html
Wanda Król Sir Lenny piosenki są zawsze żywe bo są w naszych sercach dziękuję za piękno Pozdrawiam z Poland 💔❤🕊🍀🕊🌹🌹🌹🕊😢😢🕊🌏
I think you missed that she took off her ring while at the bar.
I don’t think they were together.I think she left and he followed her there
I think the studio version conveys the hurt and tragedy of this song much better. While I agree that Kennys interaction with the audience was great, in my opinion it takes a lot away from this particular song.
As a kid I always thought he said 400 children (instead of 4 hungry children). I thought crap woman....
I’m probably in the minority, but I would be irritated with the audience (and a little with Kenny also) For the price of the ticket I want to hear KENNY sing it. Not a few hundred others who CANT sing.
