It's so nice to see a budget friendly smart home product company doing so well. This smart lock is by far one of the most intuitive and advanced yet simple ones I've seen. Plus you don't have to change an entire lock but get to keep your main lock and keys, brilliant. #Wyze #TeamUnfiltered #WyzeLock

Is the 'knob' portion and the part that connects it to the existing deadbolt hardware all metal?

How can we test the battery level?

Under settings and then Device Info, it gives the battery level there.

Gross Technology Is it a percentage? Or just an icon? Any idea if they have low battery notifications?

It’s a percentage, and doesn’t show any notifications specifically but not sure.

We have a Samsung deadbolt with keypad and nfc tags. Let me tell you, you will be running through batteries. The mechanical movement of the bolt is very power demanding. The batteries will go weak, so you end up having to use your key. Eventually you will need to replace the batteries. Untill doors can provide power, these smart locks or any electronic lock become a hassle.

Ive had both U-Tec locks, pin genie locks, and never really had any issues with any of mine. But yes, batteries go out.

@@GrossTechnology it's not an issue. It's just a hassle. Door lock sees a lot of usage, add on top of it a heavy mechanical movement and you end up running through batteries a lot. I wish they have a big capacity battery that can be recharged. This way the user can buy a second battery and keep it charged when the other one goes low.

It's a design issue. I mean there are 30000mAh powerbanks on the market, and it's not hard to just bolt one of those to the door.

Call me paranoid but I don’t really feel comfortable letting iot devices control stuff like locks. Connected devices are hackable.

  • @GrossTechnology

Understandable, but so is your phone, and any other iot device, which I'm assuming you have used something, a phone, computer, etc.. to log into your bank. But its totally up to you.

Something as important as a door lock, I prefer to have redundancy, meaning both Alexa and HomeKit compatible. So I won’t be purchasing this door lock. And it’s likely that I will have already chosen my smart door lock by the time Wyze does become HomeKit compatible (if ever). Sorry Wyze!

Well if you are wanting only Apple compatible products then that will definitely reduce your options and will greatly increase the price of it all. But that’s okay.

Gross Technology - I think you may have read over my comment too quickly. I never said I wanted “only Apple compatible products.” I said I preferred to have redundancy, meaning BOTH Alexa and HomeKit compatible. There have been quite a few occasions where HomeKit for some reason lost connection with some of my smart home devices. But because those devices were also Alexa compatible, I did not lose functionality. I’m worried less about price than I am function. You get what you pay for, right? Hope you are well.

Until Wyze has an API or integrates with home assistant and the likes, all their products are literally unusable for the diy community

It works with IFTTT, which you can then go through to connect it to SmartThings or most other ones. It already works with Amazon and Google.
