    Thanks for this! I've been researching all manner of cameras and systems, and can't escape the idea that Wyze is old technology. And 1080p isn't anything special. They have their place, I know, but technology marches on, and Reolink seems to have some of the best new affordable equipment now. Plus, they have real NVRs, so I can maybe use one of those to watch my grandparents' vacant property... for about half the cost of an Arlo system. Back to Reolink items, though, incl. this one, I'd love to see more comparison footage, in both twilight and darkness, and see comparisons of alert speeds, and speed to see footage or a live stream of what the alert was about, both on mobile and a remote desktop, because I'll primarily be monitoring the property online while at work. Thank you again for this honest review!

    I understand where you are coming from. Yes 1080p is “old tech” but is useful in a lot of cases still and for their prices, it’s hard to beat Wyze. That being said, yes I agree Reolink has been a great step up, you also may want to look into Eufy, they have cameras, and doorbells as well as a bunch of options. It’s nice since they all use the same app. As far as tests, I’ll be doing testing on the Reolink and Wyze more in-depth and will add what you mentioned to the tests. Thanks!

    @@GrossTechnology Thanks! Interestingly, I've gotten some Wyze cams since posting this, and am very impressed with what they do for the price. So I'm a little divided. I need to monitor propert(ies) remotely online, vs. with a mobile app, and am trying to decide between an out-of-the-box solution (esp. Eufycam 2 and 2C) and a more DIY system, maybe with Wyze cams. It gets complex fast, though, because one property is large, vacant, and in another state. A mesh wifi network with Wyze cams might get me about 80% there for the least amount of money, though.

    Obviously there's a great deal of difference between 4mp & 2mp (1080p) since it has twice the amount of pixels. However, the truth is the Wyze cam's could look SO MUCH BETTER and closer to the quality of the Reolink ones if they didn't 'bitstarve' the videos so much. For example, the Wyze cams only have a bitrate of around 1000kbps (give or take) for their stream. The Reolink E1 Pro gives you the option to set it anywhere between 10024kbps to 4096kbps. So at its highest setting that's 4X the bitrate of the Wyze cam. Going further, the Reolink 511W, which is an outdoor 5mp cam, offers bitrates between 1024Kbps & 8192Kbps... While resolution has some part to play in it all, the truth is it's the bitrate that's the most important part. If you had a 720p video with a bitrate of 4000kbps and compared it to a 1080p video with a bitrate of 1000kbps, even though it's 'only' 720p that video would look MUCH better than the 1080p one. As a further example, a clean 720p stream from Netflix is 3000kbps and a 1080p netflix stream is 4300-5800kbps.... If you could record at 2000-3000kbps with a Wyze cam, you'd see a huge improvement in the quality, even though it's still only '1080p'.

  • @GrossTechnology

    @GrossTechnology

    4 жыл бұрын

    True, but even recording to the sd card isn't "bitstarved" as you say. There is no streaming reduction for that recording.

    I’m confused. 4mp IS 1080p. Anything over I think 2.5mp is considered 1080p. Anything under would be 720p. And anything over 12mp would be 4K. Wyze AND Reolink shoot in 1080p. Where megapixels come into play is clarity, and zoom ability

    My “Tin” hat was forged with experience. It is based on network penetration tests. I am not trying to “scare” people but enlighten them. Most people only see “security” in one direction, targeted for one purpose. My point is don’t solve physical security at the behest of network security. Don’t assume you have that physical security when your AP can be brought down ..To that end increasing ones AP signal to reach a wireless network camera ( most have bad antennas ) is not good practice. Any expert in network security would agree with my statements. My only beef is people rely on utube university for solutions and solutions offered are not wholly correct. I appreciate your reply, frankly I had taken the time to make many similar comments to other authors, yet no other reply’s have been made. My comments are correct and accurate.

    Dude, I find it AMAZING that so many “how to do” videos for security cameras simply avoid an inconvenient truth “ANY WIRELESS DEVICE IS NOT SECURE !” Never put a wireless camera in your house ! Isolate your wireless signal as best possible to the physical parameters of your dwelling. A wireless security camera is a oxymoron ! All in house cameras should be wired and hooked to a NVR ONLY. The NVR should not be hooked up to the internet. Use a cell phone to broadcast intrusion video from NVR on motion detection when not home. There is no such thing as a good wireless “indoors” camera. Outside my house I use 3 wireless cameras on a separate wireless network as my wireless internet signal purposefully dies at my front door. My outdoors NVR is hidden and no wire tracing can be done to find it. STILL any AP can be flooded with connection attempts thereby killing all my outdoor video. All’s that takes is a 15 dollar ESP-32. All wireless encryption can be compromised and just about every crappy Chinese camera has authentication security issues. Again no matter what Reolink or Wyze gives you….All wireless security cameras are BAD ! Security 101 !

  • @GrossTechnology

    @GrossTechnology

    3 жыл бұрын

    Sorry to burst your bubble but you are wrong. The point to having wireless cameras is to minimize the chance of intrusion. The fact that you have yours on a separate network proves to me that you know the weak point is your router or AP for the cameras. Yes if you do nothing in settings or anything on your router than it’s not safe, but for the same fact, guess you better never own a phone, tablet or laptop that connects to your network wirelessly. All have weaknesses and if not checked and protected, you have the ability for an intrusion. That said I don’t think 90% of the public are in danger of someone trying to get on their network, not something a random person is going to attack, no point, they wouldn’t gain anything from the normal public. So is anything that is wireless, including phones tablets laptops cameras smart devices in general, a possible weak point, yes. But that’s why it’s important to have your network security and such setup correctly. So if you want to wear your tin hat Incase they are listening, I’d not put so much panic into the normal persons ears.

    Ok first off as a security professional, clarity is key, if you can’t read a tshirt or the license plate number, the camera footage is worthless. So yes the clarity it has over 1080p is huge. Next thing is no, I didn’t gloss over the price, compared to the Pan, which is the only one that is the “same” is not that much cheaper when shipping and tax goes into that $30 camera. Yes is it more expensive, yes but you get a lot more out of it as well, just like I said. Also “in this economy” dude, this economy is the best it has been in the past 7 years so your comment make no sense! And a sell out? Go find someone else to bother dude.
