I got the standard release because I only have the Hong Kong blu ray. I needed the fresh edition with the bonus features and lovely commentaries! Great video!

Like I mentioned in my video comparison you are only buying it for the HDR, that’s it. Many of my friends where like “I’m good” I got it just because I’m a fan of this franchise and enjoyed the different color grading and subs. Like said many times when you see a Blu-ray that says “4K scan” you most likely do not need to buy the 4K upgrade unless the HDR is on some reference level of madness like Pulp Fiction recently.

Thanks Fam, like I said in my video, I initially bought it purely for the Kung Fu Bob Art, at the time of buying it I didn't have a a 4K player and was entirely ok with that.The fact it didnt include the individual Bob covers which they stated it would when I pre-ordered I was less ok with. Very happy to see Eureka giving a chance to other artists and want to absolutely support that. The Cover Bob created for this I adore, and stoked to see them using Tony Stella for Violent Streets, which i KNOW you're gonna be hyped for too. Much love brother.x

@@TheFanaticalDragon I was not happy with not having a bunch of Bob goodies. It would have been marvelous. I did get it for Bob as well 😅 can’t never go wrong with him. I’m curious what other 4K scans they are going to pick up going forward. And yes, I’m hype for that release and happy with Stella doing the art. Much love as always.

It’s all relative to a degree, everyone’s equipment setups are different and everyone’s expectations and satisfaction levels varies wildly. I’ve been enjoying my 4K player just as much for it upscaling old DVD’s and blurays than I have the few 4K discs I’ve gotten so far. But the negative reviews of this set kindly blew my mind. Having grown up with these movies ( and the Shaw’s films) in truly shockingly bad quality thanks to VHS knockoffs and pan and scanned transfers etc I’m very easily pleased by almost all the restorations I’ve seen on Bluray. Some folks seem to enjoy finding fault more than they enjoy the particular movie, which is a shame.

@@TheFanaticalDragon The negatives are wild to me and I'm very critical of color grading. It keeps the vibes to me and thats all that matters. These are the same people who bought the HKR Blu-Rays and those joints look bad, so I'm like whatever.

I wished they had the 1998 English dubb by new line cinema it had Jackie's real English voice it was the most hilarious out of all the awkward English versions. Forever lost I was told. 😢

The new line dub actually didn’t bring Jackie Chan in to voice his character. Instead they got a person by the name of Ping Wu who would also voice Jackie in Police Story II as well as some of his other movies.

Are the subtitles all the same, if terms of font, shadows snd size?

I just saw another 4k release of police story 3. I think its by kam fortune star. Are you familiar with that release?

I'm not i'm afriad, I saw a 4K restoration from Kam and Ronson was doing the rounds a few years back, but it was just a regular bluray release. Not seen an actual 4K version coming out of HK so far. I did pickup the 88 films 4K UHD release since making this video though, and it's become my go to for the movie.

No idea sorry, I think I only ever listened to about 10seconds of the English dub on the old HKL DVD maybe 20 or so years ago. Haven’t checked out the English dubs on either the eureka or criterion set.

does the booklet of the Eureka 4K boxset feature the articles from the blu-ray set too or new texts only?

The one thing that disappointed me was that the audio track for the US cut is only regular Dolby Digital. I did experience several audio dropouts on PS I on the original Cantonese audio track. When I switched over to the 5.1 the dropouts disappeared. Curious!

Excuse my tech ignorance… and it’s huge but do you actually have to have a 4K player to just play 4K discs? I was going to get the set just for the convenience of three films in one box and play them on a normal Player

Hi, sorry for the slow reply, yes indeed mate, you need a 4K player to play 4K UHD discs (but not necessarily a 4K TV. Most players can downscale the 4K feed to 1080p )

I don't have a 4k tv so I am watching it hdr to sdr on a 2008 sony bravia. The primary reason i got it is for exclusive extras,supercop,and mostly cause the 1080p alternate cuts including the real cut of police story 2.

@@bradavon the original hk cut to ps2 and it downconverts 4k to 1080p and hdr to sdr. Cause my display is 1080p.

As good as the Police Story 3 Eureka artwork is, it's a shame it doesn't match Police Story/Police Story 2.

I’m not a fan of the standalone Supercop art at all tbh. But I agree, it would have been nice if they kept the same look as their previous release for the standalone.

The video is just a comparison between two Bluray sets. Eureka’s 4K trilogy boxset and Criterion’s release of police story 1&2. The other films you mention aren’t included on either set.

@@danielspencer6174 not really no. First strike is a sequel of sorts. New Police Story and Lockdown are both reboots, Jackie plays a totally Different character in both.

Man those ultra picky reviewers have been ruining physical media since the days of DVD in the 90s. Police Story 3 Fortune Star Remastered Hong Kong DVD (from 2006) to Eureka Bluray is a huge improvement. Was never interested in it dubbed so didn't pick up Supercop.

Years ago I used to work in a musical equipment store and we had a pretty good relationship with a local hi end Hi-Fi shop. They had some of the most joyless customers imaginable. Folks who would obsess to an unhealthy degree about the minutiae of different player specs and the merits of £200 speaker cable etc. the store assistants would be patient and try and help but they were never, ever happy. Pleasing the Audiophiles was an impossible task. The store sold two sets of identical cables. But one came in a fancier box and cost ten times the price but was EXACTLY the same, made in the same factory, just different branding. And everyone who bought the more expensive version would swear blind it sounded better. I get the same vibe from some reviewers, especially over on BR.com it’s a largely joy free zone that place.

@@TheFanaticalDragon EXACTLY! tHANK YOU FOR KEEPING IT REAL! Too many people quibble over the most insignificant things. I think we forget the days of bad VHS copies in video stores. We should be happy to be able to even SEE the films! Thanks for your reviews.
