IWC is a watch lover's brand. The quality/finishing is great.

the reason why i love this podcast is that it is so informative about stuff that, for whatever reason, isn't out there. If you are interested in IWC, you search it on KZread and there is a watch nerd unboxing a specific model from a specific time. Podcasts like this just say, "Hey here is IWC and here is what it is all about as a brand." And then you go into the most iconic models.

@25:10 - The "Flieger" Style watch was produced by initially 5 companies including IWC, as commissioned by the Luftwaffte during world war II for pilot purposes. Stowa, Laco and A. Lange & Sohne are other brands, and the modern designs aren't copying IWC. The flieger style/ design cues (the triangle at 12 etcetera) aren't specific for IWC.

Just catching up with this series but I'm glad someone caught this. I live near the Black Forest (Stuttgart area) and own a Stowa Flieger. In my opinion, Stowa and Laco produce a more historically accurate version of the WW II watch for 1/3 of the price.

I really like your show. I look forward each week to a new episode. Thank you!

I bought the IWC Perpetual and Seiko Gold Turtle since then, both of which have been discussed ad nauseum on the show. Cameron no longer buys watches since he spends all day making them.

Great Podcast - just a few comments - Blancpain is older than Vacheron by 20 years. The first wristwatch was produced by Patek in 1838 for Hungary´s countess. Also, in 1899 trench watches were already being worn by soldiers at the Boer War. Cartier only did the Santos in 1904...

Gallet is older than Blancpain by several hundred years and still running.

The history of IWC without discussing what made the Ingenieur what it was, almost skipping the Mark 11 and completely skipping the Mark 12. Those are so iconic for IWC and it is kind of sad to not have these covered.

This episode could have easily been 3 hours long if we covered every single thing. There are drastically diminishing returns once you cross 90 minutes. Some things had to be left out.

Ok. The video is far better than audio only podcast. Superb stuff!

Cool episode, thanks guys. Maybe next episode a history of the Holy Trinity, or a Swiss Vs German Vs Japanese watch manufacturers.

The oldest longest running watch company is Blancpain. But Gallet Clock was founded in 1466 and later became a watch maker as well. So the oldest timing device company is Gallet. I'll go with Gallet. Who is also continually running since 1466.

Just discovered this series and really liking it so far. Suggest bringing in some popular watch enthusiasts like TGV of Urban Gentry and maybe even LA local, Jory of The Time Teller.

Hans Homberger was the third and last of the Rauschenbach heirs to run the factory as a sole proprietor. He had joined his father's company in 1934 and took control after his death in April 1955.

You guys should see if David Walter is available for a podcast; he's a really interesting guy with a long history of clock and watch repair, and he's made timepieces in the past as well.

I really like IWC watches. One of those or that new nomos with that date ring thing will be the first watch i buy as soon as i graduate. Also a bar is only an atmosphere by coincidence, technically its one newton/cm^2 so one newton pushing on every square centimeter.

Cameron, I'm surprised as a watchmaker that you don't care that it's Greenwich Mean Time. Master Clockmaker John Harrison theorised longitude and latitude, and with Britain being at the pinnacle of naval might, Greenwich was considered the epicentre of the time zone system. Surely that's worth recognising.

looks like a Zenith Academy El Primero Tourbillon. el primero is written there and tourbillion is a type of movements, easily recognized by the bar in the hole that you see, in this case it seems static. im not an expert so im already out of my depth :)

As im from Poland - im waiting for Patek as that is acutally a polish watch ;) kinda..

Technically yes as it started as Patek & Czapek Cie. Antoni Patek considered himself a Polish Patriot but he was of Czech descent otherwise he would be called Piątek and not Patek ;)

What do you think of the Mark XVIII? Is it worth $3950USD with its off the shelf ETA 2892?

@@ruggsterify It seemed a little expensive when you look at the watch in terms of the sum of its parts. You can find things with silicon balance springs, longed power reserves and what not in the same price point these days. Just my $.02

Blancpain is a bit older than Vacheron

Did anyone else notice the cheap springbar was already bent on one end and well on the way to failure? The idea of having to push and dig into the colar wthout sliping and gouging your watch seems like a design that should be left in history. I guess removing them is when they get bent an inevibly the sleeve opens up enough for the bar to fail.

I think I've watched all your videos at least twice at this point. We need more than 1 cast a week, I hate waiting for Wednesdays, LOL.

Holy shit, hearing Carl Jung come up here was very surreal. One of the most influential psychologists out there, and referenced frequently by Dr. Jordan Peterson; who is extremely popular at the moment. Not that it really has much to do with IWC, but those little connections are crazy.

I'd like to see a worst of the worst episode 1k and up.

FYI titanium is soft compared to steel. Why do you think all good knife blades are steel not titanium. It's because it can be heat treated allot harder than titanium. Titanium is used because it doesn't rust and is lighter weight.

Cut off numbers on the dial are garbage.
