You need to come to an Alabama gun show. We have huge shows with hundreds of vendors. Just to make 1 pass up and down every row you walk over a mile. Best part is they don't give a dang, a crap, or even a heck if you bring your carry gun in. It's welcomed and encouraged

I'm the same. I was a gunshow roady back in the day. But they got just silly on their prices. I have found a few good deals on guns at yard sales. I picked up a really nice Astra 22 revolver for $75 awhile back. But I've seen some guns marked up just crazy ! Lol. I guess the worst I seen was a really beat up, really worn out Marlin model 60. They had it priced at $250 ! As I was looking it over, an older lady told me the price and asked me if I wanted it. I laid it back down and very kindly told her they were selling new for $129. She said "Oh no. It's worth more than that!". As I went to leave she hollered at me "If you want it, I'll take $200!". I just smiled and waved at her and said "I better not".

I wanted to get a .300 RUM, but everything I read about it was that it was a barrel burner, so I opted for a .300 WSM instead, which I love! Only problem is it has feeding issues, but you can't get a V8 engine that gets 80 MPG, so you take what you can get 🙂

If you just use it for hunting and a few shots here and there you will never burn out a barrel. A 300 RUM probably has about a 1500 round barrel life so even if you shot it 30 times a year it would last 50 years.

Until you get a replacement for that butt pad, you can treat it using rubbing alcohol. The alcohol helps strip away the degraded rubber. The reason it's sticky is that the rubber is losing its Vulcanization. It's reverting to its more natural state (it's synthetic rubber, not natural rubber, but anyhow...) A cloth soaked with rubbing alcohol can help remove the degraded rubber.

I bought a brand new Remington 700 in 300 Ultra Mag when they first came out! They had three different Factory loads a low power a mid-range and a maximum power ammo!! I had a 10x40x50 scope! The first three rounds I shot gutted the scope out! I was using the maximum load ammo! I had planned to shoot at a thousand yards with this animal! I took the gun back to Shields where I bought it and ask ed recommendations for a good scope! I purchased a Leopold it came with free mounting so they put it on for me! I bought two more boxes of the high-end ammo it was crazy at that time cuz they were about $75 for 20 rounds! When we got back out to the farm we ran a box through it and couldn't find a good zero! Siding in at 200 yard zero it was all over the target? We were cleaning the bore every three rounds! On our second box of ammo we noticed skid marks on the scope it was moving through the mounts! I returned to Shields and had them look at it and check the torque they said it was right on? But the scope had moved a half an inch and my brand new Leopold was scratched up took the finish off it where the mount clamped on! I was so pissed after spending over $2,000 in gun scope and parts and ammo that I told him I've had enough!! I traded it off that day for a armor light 243 with a 24-in stainless steel bull barrel and Bushnell tactical scope! It was used he threw in a box of shells and I traded even up! I went home shot of five round group at 200 yards and they were all within the 3/4 of an inch! That AR has been attack driver ever since! PS I do miss the 300 rum I had such high hopes for it! Bing bangs and Bo o Lots are fun fun!

I love the rifle and the fact that it has iron sights, that's a rarity these days! The 300 Rem Ultra Mag has been around since 1999 and I estimate the rifle was made in the early to mid 2000s because it's rare to see iron sights on most brands of newer bolt action rifles. Synthetic stocks are more common these days also, and that is a beautiful wood stock. I have a Savage 112 target rifle in the 25-06 Remington, with a heavy stainless steel fluted barrel, a beautiful laminated stock, and a high powered Simmons scope. I purchased it new from a gun store in early 2001, and it is very accurate with the loads that I use. You can never go wrong with a Savage rifle.

WHO_TEE_WHO; While they’re not the only options available, the Browning X-Bolt and Remington 700 are probably the two most common bolt action 300 RUM rifles. Fierce Firearms and Christensen Arms also manufacture some nice bolt action rifles in .300 Ultra Mag. Ruger and Savage also manufactured rifles in that chambering at one point, so it’s possible to find them on the secondary market from time to time.

Adam That Savage has beautiful wood. You are welcome to come up to North Central Ohio anytime, to one of the shows I set up at, or one that I attend. Up here they are generally $5 at door the most is $7. Also most of the fairgrounds do have an ATM.

Glad you were not injured. A local gun shop has a large and constantly grow collection of firearms the were destroyed by shooting reloads and incorrect ammo through them. They use to keep the on display as a warning. “ THESE GUNS WERE DESTROYED BY RELOADS” Did you check head space or have it checked? Did you examine that spent round you fired for signs of over pressure? Did you run a cleaning rod down the bore to make sure it was clean and free of any obstructions? Did you tighten up or make sure scope rings and bases are not loose?

When I bought my Savage 110 I had to order it from a local shop to get one with iron sights. I did find this info on the 110, the 111 should be about the same: "F" prefix with a serial number higher than F498821 = Nov. 1st, 1995 through the end of 2002

That’s a pretty gun. I usually like the bottom door mag well or mag style but that wood is beautiful. I actually like the fully top loading for this. I’d take the scope and base off, put the thread protecting screws back in and run it iron sights. Would make one hell of a light deer gun. Super fast w irons too. You can easily put two in a white tail with good iron sights . Short actions would be better but this is a powerhouse for sure. Hunting in the south east it’s usually close quarters combat.
