A well crafted rifle is one you learned the basics on and kept that schooling in your head. Meaning that you were learning the math of ballistics because you would die without the answers. 1. How fast is it? How flat is it, how much energy does it carry at it's perfunctory range, and what is that??? What, what, what??? Questions that caught you in the lethality of the weapon you hold. Don't forget to understand the difference between your lethality, and truthful right to exercise defense. You can be lethal all day long and rightiously choose not to. I have chosen many times to not kill idiot's! It's along the lines of seeing a beautiful idiot.. like lemmings jumping off! you know their logic will kill themselves yet notice the beauty in that suicidal idiocy! They appear to be a threat, but just want to die before pupation ends. With some pubertal psychosocial fears go on until 85 years Old! Mostly they are blonde and Californian, but can be found throughout the world in a .5% solution. The beauty of social suicide by self righteousness... Willing to jump if others garrunteed to follow... Yep that's the Dems!!! Break out the thorozine and halodol chemical restraint is required , for the Dems. Oh shi... Wait! This is why the CIA is importing fentanyl, heroin meth and, anything that kills your family!!!

This cartridge was developed after WWI by the August Schuler Company, a German firm, that named it the 12.7x70mm Schuler, or more commonly called the .500 Schuler. Since there was still a lot of animosity towards German people and companies in the aftermath of the war, it was renamed .500 Jeffery by the W.J. Jeffery Company. The purpose of this cartridge, was to put big bore dangerous game power in a standard length Mauser 98 bolt action rifle. At this time, double rifles were much preferred over bolt action rifles, for hunting dangerous game. It is still an excellent caliber for this type of hunting, and is chambered in rifles that most people can afford to buy and shoot.

Where did you find that rifle? You sir, have the best shoulder-fired (without a muzzle-brake or otherwise) rifle in the best caliber you can get! I have built and shot a lot of.50 BMG rifles and guns (and way beyond .50 BMG, for that matter... including .585 Nyati and .600 Nitro's, as well as .50/140 Sharps 3 1/4" and .510 Gibbs Improved/Cheytac)! But what you have now with the Sako in .500 Jeffrey is as good as it gets! By the way, you did not have to tell us about the recoil, we all saw it and you were definitely right (that looked worse than any heavyweight punch that I have ever witnessed)! (P.S.: You can start testing targets with paper plates and concrete blocks/pavers and also a stack of oak (or other tough hardwood, like hickory or locust) vs. the .50 bmg! Better yet, get with Scott on Kentucky Ballistics and compare the Jeffrey to his .500 and .700 Nitro Expresses! Just some thoughts.

Once upon a time 😉 I told my wife I'd like to have a .416 Remington. She asked me why I'd want such a thing. I told her it was to keep elephants out of the corn patch. She told me, "Your .300 Winchester has been doing a good enough job"! 😂🤣

nah. they're big, fat, slow-movers (usually around 1900 - 2400 fps, depending on bullet weight). very little tissue destruction, other than the bullets actual path through the animal. If you want a cloud of mist, you have to shoot a fast mover, like a 7mm rem mag and 140 gr bullets and ~2800 fps or faster.

WTW, the .45-70 is quite a versatile 458. A few years back Brian Pearce ( gun writer) took an 1895 Marlin on safari in Africa after Africas most dangerous big game animal, the Cape Buffalo. His PH was reluctant to let him use it. They spotted a bull. Brian took the shot(s), the first one was the kill shot. As they approached the spot the first shot was taken there was a dead cow laying on the other side of the bull they didn’t see. 2 Cape Buffalo with one shot out of an 1895 Marlin pushing 500 gr solids. ( just to let you know what you already have)😁

Great stuff! I can relate. I have a 500 A-Square that shoots 600 gr. bullets at 2,470 fps, for 8,130 ft. lbs of muzzle energy. Knocks the fillings right outta your teeth! 😆 And like yours, no muzzle brake! Basically, these rifles have about 2/3 the power of a 50 BMG in a rifle platform that is 1/3 the weight! No doubt, the 50 cal. dangerous game rifles are impressive! The 500 A-Square is, basically, a 460 Weatherby Magnum, necked up and blown out to 50 caliber.

You need to do the quigley down under shot with that rifle, where he shoots the bucket, 18 inch bucket, 550 yard, open sights.. because that the calibre ive seen thats closest to what the 45-110 sharps rifle with an ultralong barrel and peepsight could do.. maybe put something explosive inside the bucket too.. would make a good video.. although expensive in ammo cost :P
