Losing his mother at 12 really messed with his love map. It’s why Endeavor subconsciously picks the wrong women. It’s safer with the wrong women because those relationships are finite. There is a duality about Endeavor. Part of him won’t risk a loss of someone truly dear to him that he loves heart and soul. The other part of him yearns for a deep meaningful companionship, to find someone who truly accepts all of him.

l have read all the books over many years and watched and rewatched Morse and l think they've all done a wonderful job. l can see Morse in Endeavour's walk, stance, the way he looks away when he is angry and the way he brushes his hair back especially. l agree that Morse seemed driven by guilt and a fear of powerlessness (one of the reasons he despises bullies and the Masons). l think that's also why he takes great comfort in the classics and why Oxford is an ideal setting for him. Things that are so old and solid are secure. Being a detective allows him an opportunity to exercise a degree of power, to fight back with his intellect, something probably irrelevant in his family situation - even working against him. As a bit of an aside, the rescue of the Pelican was probably the most moving thing l have ever seen on fictional television so well done to the writers, production crew and cast.

Belinda Crisp I’m watching the other two shows too. The correlation between young and old Morse has been interesting as you see both characters portrayals come together. Inspector Lewis kind of ties the other two together when he reminisces about Morse. I’ve never read the books but am warming to the idea.

The series is running on telly in my country as well (I am Hungarian), and only started to watch it because I like the atmosphere of Oxford, I did not know anything about the background. I think is't a brilliant show, I like that nothing is ever commonplace in the storyline, they always surprise me somehow. It's an intellectual challenge indeed. Shaun Evans looks extremely humble, he is not even on social media anywhere, so definitely not a fame hunter. :)

One of the ironies of season 6 was Morse only getting back into plain clothes from his uniform assignment because of Strange's Masonic connection. Given his antipathy towards the Masons, would he have chosen to remain a rural sergeant if he'd known what Strange had done? Given his principles he may well have done so. In which case, the corruption at Thames Valley would have persisted and Thursday, his beloved mentor, would have been lost.

I'm in the US and absolutely love masterpiece shows/series. Unfortunately I just got done with all the episodes available for me. I can access the new seasons only by subscription but we already have so many. I will have to wait until August for all the episodes of Season 7. I started watching and finishing DCI Banks and New Tricks. But this series is something different. Took me two episodes to fall in love. Thursday's wife was getting on my nerves lol But overall I like all the cast members. Got a little crush on Morse even though he seems like the guy I'd hate to date always with the rules. What I do like about his character is that even though he likes his boss' daughter, he dates other women and doesn't wait around though she too annoys when she yells at him but seems to always go to him for help. Makes an unusual relationship. Heard a new woman will enter his life and can't wait to see more of his personal life.

Great series, but I've got a silly question about sandwiches. The 1.5-2 hour format is really good, as it affords credible development of false leads. I think we have an internal clock used to one-hour dramas, and you know that things will begin to wrap up about 45 minutes into it. But not with Endeavour. It's refreshing. I also like the attention to historical detail. It's a rare program where I can enjoy watching a show a second time, just as much as the first, knowing the outcome and seeing how the primary and sub-plots are woven together. But, I've got a silly question I can't figure out. The first couple of times Morse predicted Thursday's sandwiches, I had the notion this was a vehicle to show off Morse's olfactory skills, but dismissed it because the sandwich choice correspond to days of the week, and are not chosen at random. So, if each sandwich corresponds to one of five days of the work week, are we to believe Friday can't remember this information, and it takes Morse's high intellect to remember five things? I must be missing something. I'm getting old. Please help?
@mariadelmarillescasdelgado7974
4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's a case of Friday not remembering - I think he hasn't even noticed that his sandwiches correspond to days of the week. I believe it's just a way to show that Morse is very observant and sees details and patterns that other people miss.

There's a priest in one episode and the cops happen to find a secret passageway in an old building and they conclude that it was once used to hide Roman Catholic priests during the reign of Elizabeth I. I would venture that the cops would then go back to the priest and get some information out of him to help solve the murder. But, if the cops actually did this, it wasn't shown by PBS. I've noticed in some other Midsomer episodes that the cops summation at the end has details that the TV viewer (at least in the U.S.) were not given during the program.

Awesome comments from Shaun Evans ❣ Morse was an excellent program & John Thaw played his role eloquently. Lewis was a spin off show prior to Endeavour - another brilliant show, with excellent choice in the actors❣👌❣
everything about this show is fantastic
l have read all the books over many years and watched and rewatched Morse and l think they've all done a wonderful job. l can see Morse in Endeavour's walk, stance, the way he looks away when he is angry and the way he brushes his hair back especially. l agree that Morse seemed driven by guilt and a fear of powerlessness (one of the reasons he despises bullies and the Masons). l think that's also why he takes great comfort in the classics and why Oxford is an ideal setting for him.

Best show ever can’t wait for season seven
my grandfather's favourite show was INSPECTOR MORSE. my grandmother loved everything Jane Austen and Brontes. I miss her so much whenever these great televised period masterpieces come out, and I really really wish my grandfather was beside me. He would have enjoyed this show so much, and I miss the chats we would have had about it. love you nana nani. :)
I like Endeavour much more than I did Inspector Morse.
As a child of the 60's the fact that this occurred during that time period is what first drew me to watching. I knew nothing about the character or the books. What a wonderful surprise. It didn't take long before I became hooked on the series.
Season finale had me shouting out loud. Well done!

What a thoughtful and interesting chap Shaun is.
Nagyon, nagyon király a sorozat, igényes, nívós, egyedi, nem tipikus s ezért is annyira különleges!
I know the original Morse never marries but I hope that’s one of things that this new series can explore and maybe change.
One of the best shows🌹👏 love every episodes💙💛💙
Been a huge fan of Morse since I the first episode, so when they announced Endeavour being a stick in the mud I refused to watch it as only John Thaw could ever be Morse. Then after a while I watched an episode then the whole of series one. Now I honestly feel the Endeavour is better that the Morse. It’s perfect I’m amazed at how absolutely every element fits together so well. There is talk series 7 is the last, if so it will be a huge loss as it is simply In my opinion the best show on television

Bellissima serie...
Great series..
I'm so happy !

A beautiful soul.
I love IT!!!! Really❤️
I love it ❤❤❤❤❤❤

I was born in Cheshire and moved to Canada at 11. Please increase the number of episodes. We need more of Shaun.
Excellent series..Dont understand why the season is only 4 programs...Would like to see more of it.. Why does it take so long to complete each episode? How long is the shooting season for Endeavour?
He has a very different accent here than on the show. I suppose that this is a Liverpool accent here.

@mariadelmarillescasdelgado7974
4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's a case of Friday not remembering - I think he hasn't even noticed that his sandwiches correspond to days of the week. I believe it's just a way to show that Morse is very observant and sees details and patterns that other people miss.
Воображение и внутренняя наполненность помогают Морсу представить как произошло преступление

@@nickjonesCSM Totally agree. My local PBS station is showing episodes of Midsomer Murders.

They also edit out any mild sex scenes or anything they think is offensive. I watched an episode of Poirot on Netflix, and PBS completely edited out the sex scene between two characters, it was probably too raunchy for some PBS viewers.

Oh yes. At first I wasn't sure but quickly changed my mind. Morse has fallen in love so, over time, Endeavor has softened. And, though Shaun may be surprised, I never find the character easy prey for the femme fatale . He is professional first and always. He is not taking prisoners as they say. Only saw first 5 series on ITV 3 repeats, got hooked in time for Series 6, not long till Series 7 now! The day it catches up with “Inspector Morse” will indeed be a “Remorseful Day” 😭 Through Endeavour I have got into watching Lewis and then Inspector Morse (though sadly I can’t see past Jack Reagan sometimes) and it’s always on so late. Prefer Endeavour though. As an aside, weirdly, I feel the main Morse theme somehow seems more Endeavour than Inspector Morse? Anyone . . . ?

Wait a min, it's my show?
The best character in Endeavor, Inspector Morse and Inspector Lewis is that creek that the Brits call a river. If they were to fill it in, the body count would plummet.
I've only seen bits and pieces of Endeavor, but the John Thaw version of the character always struck me as something of a predator- no man's wife was ever safe around him. I was also under the impression that Morse was well educated.

Morse is well educated in the classics. He did not obtain his degree though. l don't think he is predatory. Women come to him and then tend to leave again. He seems attracted to vulnerable women and wants to help them but l don't think he feels he deserves to keep them when they're healed. Or maybe they have no use for him somehow. He would be difficult l think. He has high standards.
