English is not my native language and to be honest, his strong accent took me by surprise. That's not how he speaks in Endeavour. Read somewhere he is from Liverpool if I'm not mistaken...learning the "Oxford-accent" and speaking it throughout all 9 seasons is quite an achievement I guess. That makes him an even more superb actor.

His Wikipedia bio says that he went to Music and Drama school where he would have most probably been taught RP English (Received Pronunciation), the way to pronounce vowels in particular but all the other phonemic sounds in what is regarded as the ‘*proper way’ (*standard and most prestigious). David Tennant masks his Scottish accent as Doctor Who and Daniel Craig speaks in an RP English all of the time; I often wonder what kind of accent he had before he went to drama school (the same one as Shaun Evans incidentally) ❤️

Definitely he does and he often use words "I" and "Me" when talking about Morse. Other actors use character names.

Oh there are others saying it too. I've watched Lewis and now Endeavour. I couldn't bring myself to watch Morse because I didn't like John Thaw as an actor or his character in Morse.
