Interesting kit. Never see a lady unbox a kit. Good points about flattening the foams and plugging the holes for water proofing.

Good tip about keeping the cars elevated during storage. I stored my trx4 for a week and went back to it to find flat spots on the tires!

I’m new to the hobby, I just bought a temper gen 2, I think that this kit will be my next purchase.. like you said in the video, building one helps to understand the truck better.

Wow this is an impressive package for the money! I really like the ECX sort of "partial kit" approach. As in the hard stuff being out of the way but still allowing some building and customization with the painting. It's really a good way to approach the hobby for someone new so that they learn a little and have a better understanding of how these things work once they're using it. I'll keep up with your series for sure :) hope it turns out to be a a winner so I have something new to recommend people when they ask what a good cheap starter trail truck would be! Hi there, my son does his best to control a Vaterra Glamis uno and I take things a bit more slowly with my much pampered Tamiya F350 high lift. My daughter likes the look of your ECX and I reckon that she finds 'RC Girl' less intimidating than some of the male presenters. Stay well.

Nice video! :) ECX Barrage is a good base to start with crawling and to gain experience. Really good quality and costs about 60% less than TRX4 or SCX10. You get all you need to start a fun (radio, reciver and all nescesary to use)... and dont need to spend your money to check do you like this hobby. I have a kit version and all parts fits together very well. In the future you can also buy something better and the Barrage chassis use to build a smaller scale model like Toyota FJ40 or Suzuki Samurai (Sumo). I swaped my oryginal Barrage body (1/12 scale) with Tamiya Toyota FJ40 (1/10 scale) and it fits ideal. Suzuki Samurai will be the next :)

The RTR comes with the 390 now 👍👍👍 and I use a little losi servo horn it's the tlr22 it is short and perfect.

I am loving my barrage 2, I put my stock 1.9s on it off my trx4 and it has the same axle clearance now as the portal axles on my trx4 lol, the pumpkin is actually really small and with 1.9s and the short wheel base it gives it really good ground clearance I'm impressed for 175$. I used the same Traxxas 2075 metal gear servo on mine that you use since I had one laying around from my trx4 and it works great, it didn't work to great with the trx4 but the barrage is way lighter and it handles nit great. I also mounted nthe battery tray in the center sideways like the redcat gen7 and mounted some weights where the battery tray used to be on give it more front end weight and the center battery gives it better center of gravity. I don't see any other mods besides cosmetic that I need to do besides getting some metal beadlocks for it but with some little tweaks and adjustments this truck can crawl and trail with the 500$ rigs easily.

I put one of these together this winter, painted it green and black. Tires are good in dry conditions, no surprise that the servo is underpowered. I upgraded both and really like it now. I suggest you flip the driveshafts to keep the dirt from packing in.

Yeah I a watched couple barrage unboxing vids recently and thought a more detailed unboxing would be helpful! Glad you liked.

It would probably take me longer to paint the body than it would to actually build the kit since there’s not much left to assemble with most of the components already built. I actually prefer to build the entire kit-including it’s gearboxes and differentials, the kits I’ve built are also $200 or less (all Tamiya). That’s a nice kit you have there and I’ll be following your build to your first outside run.

They have some great starter kits. My son got this one for Christmas had it built in about 3 hours lol and he is only 13 we are going to be doing a sheriff truck theme police lights on the top upgraded the tires and rims already. Will be adding a winch to the front so will probably need to change the front bumper as well. Great vid nice to see you teaming up with Horizon Hobbies wishing you much success. Hi RC Girl, I love you and your vids. Nice to see the girl in rc word. I build two of these trucks at christmas holiday for my sons and they perform realy great, only issue is poor useless stock servo. Except custom body painting and weathering i add some accesorry, interior and metal beadlock wheels and now it weights almost double, so I use 20kg standard servo. I'm impressed with these trucks. I think, most of 1,9" beadlock wheels fits this truck. Most of rc hardware I'm buying from china via aliexpres or ebay. One of the cheapest but great quality I have m.aliexpress.com/item/32740641675.html?pid=808_0000_0101&spm=a2g0n.search-amp.list.32740641675

How does the size of the Barrage compare with the TRX4 and the Redcat Gen7 and the 3Racing RC Crawler EX Kit? Also when looking for a new body for the Barrage what size should you look for 1/10 or 1/12? I’ve recently found a renewed interest in the RC hobby actually thanks to Horizon Hobby. The React 9 was my first boat followed by the Cajun Commander. Eflite Carbon Z was my first and only plane. I’m very interested in the scale modeling projects I’m looking for a good platform to build a scale truck off of the TRX4 is a little out of my budget. I’ve always been attracted to the Barrage mostly because of my loyalty to Horizon but I don’t know if the truck will fit my ideas my local hobby shop can’t keep them in stock so I can see it in person. One last question, is there a truck body that has a scale looking deep bed inside of the flat top that are on most bodies? Thank you so much for your time and for what you do.

I'll have to compare sizes when it's built. Supposedly folks say it looks similar in size to the SCX10ii even though this is a 1/12 scale. Not sure about the aftermarket bodies that will fit on this, but I will look into it.... would be cool with a rubicon style body! ;)

Just subscribed. When you are comparing the kit to the rtr, I'm assuming you mean the first generation barrage? Horizons video of the gen 2 barrage states that it has the 390 motor. Was the rtr gen 2 not released yet at the time of this video or am I mistaken? What i really am wanting to know is if the rtr gen 2 has all the same goodies as the kit. 390 motor, longer axles, aluminum parts ect. Thanks-I like your channel. 🤘

Robert Fisher yep a bit confusing, but ECX just released the Gen2 in their RTR so it also has all the upgrades that the kit has which i mention here. When I say RTR, I mean the original RTR. I think they are phasing the original one out now

RC Girl awesome! I've had the ecx 1/18 temper for a year & a half & that crawler has been bulletproof. I could never understand how the 1/12 scale barrage came with the odd sized steering servo while the 1/18 temper came with a 1/10 steering servo! I've been wanting a more "scale" looking crawler & really liked the 1/12 barrage, but that steering servo, inboard shocks & flesh colored body were a deal breaker for me. I stumbled on your video of the gen 2 barrage & was blown away. Horizon really stepped up & fixed everything that was holding this little crawler back. I love the price & size of this truck & think i just found my upcoming 50th birthday present.

I'm curious about the this crawler kit but will it fit the 1946 Dodge power wagon body by proline racing

02VertGT yeah I'll prob paint this body and show tips for prepping it and painting it. I usually keep the designs simple but I'll prob mask off the fenders and truck bed and paint that black. The rest will be the dark green. Then I might play around with a matte finish on the exterior.

Yep they are exactly the same except the RTR comes with 1.55 tires compared with 1.9's in the kit

I will make sure to do an honest review once it's assembled, but thus far I'm impressed for the price point. Hear the servo isn't amazing though, but that tends to be the case...
