Do you punish the wrong choice?

I like to film things the first try so I can show clients that training isn’t a highlight reel but also how I try to help my dogs to learn new pictures. Dante isn’t grabbing the tug at the end when I want him to run past it because he’s disobedient. He doesn’t know he’s not suppose to. It’s my job to show him and this is about the harshest I’ll be with my dogs. I guess what I want my people to see is that the dog will try to do what we request if we can show them what we want. It’s very common for trainers to put the e collar on and correct the mistake. That’s not my way. My dogs are never scared to make a mistake. The only living being that I’m concerned with liking how I train is the one with four legs, and no keyboard

It’s so fun to troubleshoot sometimes, watching their little hamster wheel work and figure things out is awesome 👌🐾👏💯

That was great! Kept the happiness and energy alive while figuring it out.
But Larry! It’s his favorite toy!! Thanks for sharing the training. I use my dogs favorite toy to train the dumbbell retrieve too. Works like a charm.
Nice, fun to watch you both enjoy training + play. Dante looked proud of himself after getting it right and leaving the tug alone. The jumping he does that knocks the wind of you had me laughing, that's what my dog does when we play- I think she enjoys my reaction each time haha

Curious if dropping the dumbell on the way back after pick up acceptable in the sport you play in?

No. He only dropped because I marked the behavior allowing him to drop for the reward. The goal was to get him to ignore the tug and go get the dumbbell. Reward came for doing so
Oh, he’s looking really good. Have you taken him to any matches yet? I know you’re planning on IPO, but an AKC match for like novice obedience would be a good thing for him. just to work around other dogs and have a judge by him. As to do we ever punish the wrong behavior I’m sure we all have sometimes we do it so quick and we go oh shoot why did we do that? Anyway your pups looking great

Do you care that last two fetches were incomplete? He drops the fetch toy way before returning to you - does that matter? Tx

They weren’t incomplete. I marked the behavior meaning he’s allowed to drop to come get his reward. It builds speed in the whole exercise

That's called "all positive training" As a trainer of working dogs in schutzhund, search and rescue, obedience etc it doesn't work.
