@@IndianpetguyThat is why you don't get a show line GSD. Get a DDR line GSD. Less joint issues, typically live longer, although high energy, super shedder, strong willed. They need a strong Leader, lots of training, and socializing. I My DDR is the best dog I've ever owned.

We dug deep to find out why they bite. Sometimes we found…. because they misinterpret actions that they see as dangerous to us. such a shaking our neighbors hand. Wonderful dogs.

@@NoNo_IStay no kidding. I've bred show lines, imported both puppies & adults from Germany for over a span of 25 years. Guess what? Only 2 from the better part of both 60 puppies & dogs were diagnosed with hip dysplasia. Yes, it it is true show lines are more apt to get it vs working lines because there are irresponsible breeders who breed OVERLY ANGULATED dogs which can unfortunately create hip dysplasia. However too many "experts" confuse slope with appropriate angulation. You do know that a West German show line 🐕‍🦺 GSD covers more ground in a gait than a working line GSD? I would also like to point out that the "angulation" in an American line Shepherd is deplorable!

@@brendanperry6429 one was a German dog. He was broken at birth. We went through enough interviews and paperwork to adopt a child. The breeder gave the dog to us @ 49 days so that he’d be bonded to us. The puppy showed pain and no desire to run. We got him to a good vet who’d been a Canine Police officer veterinarian. He said his elbows were malformed. It was so sad. The breeder said bring him back and they’d euthanize him. I couldn’t do it. He suffered very much and it took me more than 15 years to get over it. 😞

That's why you need the original straight-back breed from Germany and not the sloped back common in show lines. That aids in hip dysplasia. Original breed were straight back. Man ruined the GSD from its original form.

My first german shepherd was a showline she only lived close to age 8 she had a huge mass attached to her spleen. So painful losing her. She was great with my cats and children. She was my dream dog as a child and i had to wait to get my own home before i got her. She made me believe in the breed and taught me so much both in life and after her passing 💔 RIP Shiloh. My 2nd GSD another showline was an awful experience. Her heart was failing her only 25 days in of bringing her home. A major heart valve issue. RIP Dixie. My 3rd GSD a working line She is 10 weeks old. I absolutely love her and the working line. She reminds me of my first sweet girl. She was heaven sent. RIEKA 🐺 has my heart and i love her drive. She love to guard the soccer ball as we play and shes good making sure i dont score 🤣 and she's a super fun pup! Nothing better than a dog and ill forever have a special place in my heart for German Shepherds ♥️

I was lucky enough to have grown up with a wonderful male shepherd, our family dog, and had wanted to get one my whole life since then. I finally had the circumstances to be able to properly take care of one a few years ago, and adopted an abandoned female at 1 ½ years of age. She was housebroken but completely untrained and barely socialised with other dogs, in spite of this, and with consistent handling and unlimited amounts of love, she matured into the most calm, stable, affectionate, and well behaved dog you could imagine. They are an incredible breed, to my mind the king of all breeds for their versatility, athleticism, and intelligence, including emotional intelligence. Other dogs recognise their natural place in the scheme of things, mine os quite naturally dominant without needing to show it too overtly, but she will submit gracefully to certain dogs, like dominant huskies and certain dogs much larger than her. The most amazing thing is to watch how she adapts to other dogs during play, she can mix it up with even the tiniest dogs without hurting them, and she adapts t their play style and is endlessly creative when it comes to playing with other dogs, a beautiful thing to watch. It helps that I live in a place where we can spend hours in the forest and climbing mountains, we walk about 10km a day and it's rare she doesn't get a chance to interact or hang out with other doggy friends every day, she really needs this, having become accustomed to it. She is truly an ambassador for the breed, we've even been able to help kids and a few adults who are afraid of dogs to overcome their resistance and fears.

However, German Shepherds have that air about them, of being the adult in the room, all grown up as opposed to the Dutch Shepherds being the juvenile hooligans tearing up the neighbourhood. Malinois are kind of Dutch Shepherds with better manners...

Our GSDis 11 years old this month. Best girl ever. However, this breed is not for beginning dog owners. If you have young children, prey drive is a problem, squirrels and cats are very tempting. A GSD must be walked daily, and more walks are better. If you’ve never owned a dog, try a Lab or setter.

I live on a farm where I work with horses, and from what I've read both breeds can work great in that setting, I would also like to use them for agility as I feel like it is a great way for them to use their brain and also exercise outside from regular walks and work around the stable. Looking into breedsrs currently on both species while I decide which one would work best.

@@brendanperry6429 ohhh I see! I'd be very interested in looking into the breeders in Germany, I'd prefer a working line german shepard, considering what I'm planning to use them for ^^

You should also check the parents out, my GSD husky mix is an amazing dog. 0 protective qualities. We got her for the temperament and pattern. Trainer thinks she should be exposed to search and rescue course because of her and her Mama's nose. Puppy mama is a retired narcotics dog, nothing but a sweet little narc/tattletale. Just like the dogs that fail out of police K9 training, some of them refuse to be guardians or be aggressive.

My brother is looking at getting a mal and I have a feeling I’m going to be giving her baths and weekly grooming along with my pup. 😂 But he’s the perfect person for a high energy dog like that. He never slows down and leads an insanely active lifestyle. He’ll even take the pup to work with him and find a way to keep the truck air conditioned the whole day. Or just keep the trailer he uses for long distance job sites as a glorified summer kennel. 😂

I have always been leery of German Shepherds . My first memory of German Shepherds is going to visit my Dad's Cousin and his family and their son's face was all bandaged up . He had been playing around with his friend , play wrestling , and the his friends German Shepherd attacked him . He was saved from more serious injuries only because he was able to protect his face with his baseball glove .

He did precisely what he was trained to do. Just like a firearm - can be trained for good or evil. Ask him what he did in Vietnam, Korea, Irag, Afghanistan... He saved MANY lives. I really hope you're not implying the dog is Anti-Semite, they also served US forces w/AKC endorsement "Dogs for Defense" (1942) owners donated their dogs for protection of US facilities. They then were the best detection against German non-metallic landmines further helping allied forces to win the war.

A well bred German Shepherd is on my list for potential service dog breeds along with Labradors and Newfoundlands. I have mobiliy and balance issues that a service dog would greatly help with.

I am training one as a Service Dog now. 6'3", 200lbs - I have 28 pieces of metal and 5 cadaver bones rebuilding my neck and spine. Soon will be having both knees replaced. He's 17mos old now, needs to be 2 years for soft plates to mature for weight bearing duties.

@TomRolfson I'm glad that your dog is almost full grown. Part of me wants to know what happened to you, but it is ultimately none of my business. I hope the knee replacement surgeries go well for you. My issues stem from my Sensory Processing Disorder. I struggle with my spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination, so I am very clumsy and can tip over sideways while standing still on a flat surface.

@TheKjoy85 Adopted a handsome rescue male GSD, July ‘23, who is a giant at 133# & tall at 19 months; training to be my Service Dog for Fall Assist & checking items for PEG & PETE additives & plastics that don’t have to be listed as ingredients. I am neurotoxic to both. He is fabulous, low prey & energy for condo life, but loves training & his blind 13 yo diabetic mini dachshund sister. Very smart! Got from Hope Rescue Ranch in SE Texas. I’m 71 & can’t have a wild GSD like in my 20’s. He is perfect & the ranch actually knew he was the fit for me. Not sure what dogs they have all the time, but might be able to help.
