I couldn't agree more! My 4-Year-Old, working line GSD is all about interaction and bonding with me through his mouth. When I began to talk to people about these dogs, and I am 72, they need a lot of attention and understanding. The first two years is a lot of work. If the owner puts in the work, you got a great dog.

You're so right about the hard two years: the need for intense interaction, play and learning! At 2, my Cane Corso has matured into a well-behaved, sensible dog, far, far away from the crazy handful she was around 1 year. I was despairing but I persisted. This really takes time and work, and with these kinds of breeds this is mandatory. She's now an easy dog who can go to beaches and parks with no stress. It's true, satisfying that need for intense interaction and bonding gets you a great dog. How long did it take your GSD to grow up?

My boy will be a year old in another week or two, he loves, loves to run around my large back yard, he flattened all the poly gallon jugs I had for watering and fertilizing and he likes to fetch and play chase with those. He also will disassemble (and run away with) anything stacked up, like grapevines, two by fours, branches..he’s an absolute freak for running water from the hose! I bought one of those step on things that sprays, took him 2 seconds to learn to use it..he gets so frantic he starts talking to it, flipping it over, dragging it around, he will chase the spray, and step on it and chow down on the spray like it’s a waterpik for dogs. Mischievous streak, loves to play hide and seek, and he’s not working line but west German show. Super lovey guy, he loves ppl and other dogs.
