Basic dog training timing, luring, marking, rewarding
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
For the every day dog owner, this is the stuff that they really struggle with which makes it so difficult for them to communicate properly with their dogs. As simple and basic as this is, it goes against the human habits that we all have, and must break.

I’m becoming a fan, you have proven yourself to me, the analogies are hilarious.
I found this very helpful thanks Larry. I often forget how critical the timing is and not to rush the reward.

Very welcome
😂 you burned me at one of your seminars for using several different reward markers depending on what I was doing. Big lesson learned. Thanks
I'm in training right now and that was the best explanation I've found.. Thanks
So good 😊 thank you 🙏 My dog is smarter than me so I don’t even have to say anything now, he just reads my mind 😂
Can you please do more KZread? You are the best trainer.

🙏🙏 thank you very much. I just try to focus on real life stuff that people struggle with. No fluff
Good reminder; it's easy to fall into bad habits - easier to notice someone else's error.
First, thanks for sharing!! On point video. Short and sweet. I've been working on all of the above... trying to break my bad habits. Naturally, I've always said to my dogs "are you ready?" And I had a trainer point that out to me and I use it all the time... gets their motor going. Love Dante too... looks a lot like my black shepherd ❤
Thank you so much for making this vid. You broke this down perfectly. Pls do more like this for us novices
You don’t know how instructing this video is Larry. I’ve been watching it for 7 times now. 😅 Repeat, repeat is the best way to learn.
Thanks so much for breaking this down and actually showing how it's done!
4:38 the dog is trying to beat the system because larry said down to the camera😂😂🙌🏼🙌🏼 just something i noticed while watching the video Thank you so much for all the content you have here Larry
Thank you! I needed this..
Thank you for showing this. It was very helpful!
This is actually extremely helpful, and I can't wait to start implementing it in training.
Good stuff man! Thank you.
Thank you Larry for another great learning video! Your dog is beautiful!
Another great video of dog training. Lure the dog into the action of obedience. Thanks again Larry, your teaching methods are great and fun for the dog.
great channel!
❤❤❤❤ great video
Thank you for this videos. My dog recently is confusing down and stay. The lures you show are great and will be used. Very concise and informative video. 🐾
very good larry
Thank you Larry!! This is ABC but I for sure needed to learn this!
Larry needs to train his neighbors not to do lawn work when filming is in progress. "Stop" "Yes" "Beer"
Love your 'no bullshit' approach Question: What about 'stay'? With my dogs, I ask them to stay then approach them, use marker, treat. Should I be moving the treat to get them to come towards me even when I've asked them to stay in a particular spot?
You are a Saint. I have trouble with my dog, probably more because I am an idiot. I keep watching your videos though, and soon . . . Anyway, thaks, and keep up the great work
Larry, Joel, Robert, and Nate all agree. I learn from those 4.
Am always saying to my students, get the Yes out!
Edit: wrong video My jack Russell is cool meeting dogs off leash under the that they are ‘cool’ and don’t act a fool. We have a German shepherd now that is reactive to everything and we cannot have them in the same room, and the gate(s) separate them creates barrier aggression but we do not have any other options. You are spot on about it being extremely difficult. When work gets started up I’ll buy 3 phone calls with you and it will be a game of you saying ‘jump’ and me saying ‘how high’. Good day.
Hi Larry, this is an excellent video. I sometimes make mistakes myself but this is good because I have about 30 clients a week that I train here in Massachusetts. By the way, Larry German Shepherd is beautiful and I’m looking to to get a puppy is yours him is he Wes lines and also, where did where did you get him from? I’ll be looking late spring for a puppy.
This is true. Do you know how hard it is to train a person to have proper timing? I know you do, it is the hardest part.
Here’s a question not sure you’ve ever gotten but, how or what would be good things for a breeder to do in those beginning weeks that could be helpful in starting the puppy training and getting the puppies more ready for new parents to continue training? Thank you
What kind of food do you use?
I have to laugh everytime when you do Porn yes's !
Why do you pull away/release to reward? I've been doing it similarly (hopefully with proper timing and such but I'll try to be more aware now). I mark with yes and reward simultaneously but I bring the treat to his mouth so he stays in position until released. I feel like I'm missing something there. Seems to me like you're marking with yes but also releasing with yes? I like how you're breaking down the basics with timing and the order of training a command
Is that a yes marker essentially your release command?
Thanks, always learn something. Is Dante's butt off the ground in his sit and down or is it just the camera angle?

Yeah he’s real tight in the back end. Waiting on X-rays
On point!! hahahahahaha I love the "porn yes" example
Question: Is there a difference in your marking the behavior and release command? I'm confused because I try to give my dogs the command, mark the command, and then give a release command. Any explanation would be helpful to see if I'm doing anything wrong. Thank you.

The reward marker is an active release. Meaning if I mark with YES behavior is over get your reward. If I’m not rewarding FREE DOG releases the dog from behavior but means no reward is following

@Larry Krohn Very helpful. Thank you so much! Now that this is no longer confusing to me, I can stop confusing my pups!

@@lklencho thank you Larry. Your work is very helpful. I'm curious about the rationale behind the marker being an active release. I typically reward in place and then the duration comes from the release command. Would love to know what you've found in the benefit of making it active.
The doggy porn description of how people behave is so accurate 😂
LARRY I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF IT IS OKAY TO TRAIN MY DOG IN THE HOUSE IN THE WINTER BECAUSE I WALK WITH MY WALKER IT IS HARD TO WALK WITH IT IS IT OKAY FOR THIS I CANT GET PEOPLE TO WALK HIM
Great video but isnt it netter to five him food while he is in position we told him to be?
My timing was off for sure
It helps if you can video yourself, and analyse it later
Do you have any video's whereas you're actually training an untrained dog a few basic commands? The only videos I find, you're using already trained dogs! I don't want to sound naive, but I'm wondering if maybe I'm not going to find "how to" videos, but more "why to do it" stuff unless you're paid? Not faulting you at all, I get it! It's just that I need to first learn how to get to first base. Example being in one video as you're walking out the door with a well trained dog, you mention something about training your dog to not dart out the door. How do I do this? I'll check out your website, I'm just very frustrated with training my dog and I'm not financially capable of hiring a trainer or paying for more video. I think you have great experience with dog psychology!

I'm sorry but the dog he's using, Dante, seems to be only trained in basic commands. They're practicing down and that's a difficult command to master. My puppy took about two months to understand "lay down". There are many great dog training books and videos at my local library, perhaps you also should look at yours? I could recommend the books by the Monks of New Skete but there's all kinds of other ones.
Your dog always jumps after a command looking for a treat, that’s annoying.
