What I feed and supplement my dogs

I don’t get paid from Volhard or Activpower but I promote both because of what they’ve done for my dogs and so many other dogs that have struggled with issues

I've fed raw for 40 yrs , except in emergency/unusual circumstances and I don't understand the people who are against it. It makes only sense to me and my dogs.

I recently learned about feeding raw. My GSD mix 1 year old now gets all homemade food mixed with raw meats or fish. I wish I would have known this way of better food when my other two dogs were alive. I try to do it on a budget. For my 80 lb. dog it averages out to $140 per month. All real food, no kibble. Some of that cost feeds my cat too, who i also switched to raw meat.

Exactly right Expensive kibble is still processed and has vegetable fillers, seed oils etc

@@Terrierized It's actually difficult to make your own balanced diet without scientific knowledge of the vitamin and mineral needs in the right balance. Most owners would do better to just get a top quality basic dried food and add fresh fruit and veggies. Here's a dry kibble ingredients list that is respectable, expensive, but doesn't break the bank. There are tricky parts involved in reading ingredients lists. I'll list some of them. 1. The longer the list, the less the main ingredients order matters, so that even the first ingredient will be less than 10%. 2. When the first ingredient is within brackets containing several, the percentage of the first within, is even smaller..could be 2%. 3. Raw, wet meat weighs a lot more than dried, so if the first is say "fresh chicken", it may be followed by dehydrated chicken or chicken meal, because the fresh chicken amount once dried, is small. 4. When you get to pea or corn meal as the third ingredient, taking into account the first few tricks in this list means that corn might actually be the most major ingredient. "Beef, wild boar, lamb, beef liver, pork, beef meal, mackerel meal, herring meal, oat groats, millet, mutton, whole mackerel, beef fat, natural pork flavor, lamb meal, whole oats, ground whole flaxseed, pollock oil, quinoa seed, chia seed, pork liver, beef kidney, lamb liver, wild boar liver, lamb tripe, pork heart, pork kidney, inulin, vitamin E supplement, dried kelp, whole pumpkin, whole butternut squash, collard greens, whole apples, whole pears, whole cranberries, zinc proteinate, mixed tocopherols (preservative), niacin, thiamine mononitrate, calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin, folic acid, vitamin B12 supplement, turmeric, sarsaparilla root, althea root, rosehips, juniper berries, citric acid (preservative), rosemary extract, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried Bifidobacterium animalis fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus casei fermentation product." Even in this exceptionally good list, you can see that the whole apples amount is smaller than the Vit E supplement...Learning how to interpret ingredients lists is very useful.

@@thankmelater1254this would be true if we lived in the world where labeled food is food. Unfortunately, these companies can use whatever they want and list it without any notes. Ex - any meal is a byproduct and it can also be derived from animals that died from being sick. You would find all sorts of parasites, cut up cancer infected meat, as well as euthanized animals, imagine those barbiturates ending up your pet food!! etc. My dogs have been on raw, organic diet since we had them as puppies, they eat only raw organic meats, no corn no soy eggs, and raw organic local milk. And veggies of course. They never needed a vet for the last 4 years. Super healthy and thriving. You either pay farmer or a doctor. We prefer the first one ❤

@@thankmelater1254 Is it difficult to make a balanced raw food diet? It is very easy, I’ve done it for years.

@@chickenlounge641 Just imagine the amount of crap they inject into farm animals. It might be worse than the bags of snacks they feed kids. As to what can go into pet food, road kill, dead skunks, lots of flesh and stuff in the back of a truck sitting in the sun. That's like what my dog would swallow in an instant if he found it outside. The other day I was training and feeding him and the moment I released him from where I was feeding him, he lunged over to the bushes and grabbed some vomit or diarrhea, not sure which, from a small pool of it ten feet away in the grass.
