A little tip: glue the router attachment to a clear larger piece of acrylic. It gives you a larger level and holding surface.

We've made a number of them for our yard. Great fun. Tips: 1. Use 2x10 or 2x12 lumber as the flat base. Use a 2x4 or 2x6 for the vertical to connect the tombstone. It is heavy and wide enough to keep from flipping over in most light breezes. If it doesn't drill some 3/8" holes and buy a pack of metal tent stakes to drive into them. They won't ever move after that. 2. If you live down south where moss hangs from every other tree, go for a walk down the road and fill up a couple of bags of it. Use it to cover your wood base. 3. Canned spray foam is a great adhesive for sticking the pieces together to form thicker pieces or to add accessories and for repairs. Get yourself some BBQ bamboo skewers to hold the pieces together while it dries. 4. Dremel with a router bit and router baseplate setup is great for detail work. A mini-router with a small bit works great for everything else. You can get some great results from stencils and just hand cutting the details, no need for a CNC machine. 5. VanOaksProps has some great lighting videos for haunts. The tombstones really pop when you add a bit of colored light to illuminate them. 6. Drylok makes a great concrete sealant. It has the grey color and is gritty. Our tombstones have held up for about 3 years so far without any issues.

While I love this, and you did a great job, I think there’s an opportunity to make this your own for next year. I’ve never seen (unless it’s been in Clone Wars or Rebels or something) a Star Wars graveyard. You could invent what that might look like. Does Luke have a personal one behind his hut, with everyone he’s lost - Amidala, Anakin, Yoda, Ben, Leia…? Or be more whimsical and do ones for Porkins, Admiral Ozzel, or a mass grave for “Many Bothans”. Do the graves have holograms of remembrance, or digital eternal flames? What is their iconography? How do the materials and styles vary by star system? So much cool work y’all could do!

Next time instead of using the router for the letters just mask everything but the letters and then use very light misting coats of Enamel spray paint to "etch" the letters in. A couple light coats will dissolve a shallow and clean edged letter. Some real heavy coats and it will melt right down in and really roughen the edges. Make sure to try a practice piece to get the feel of it. Also make sure it is laying flat or the paint will dissolve down the front.

I saw a sketch for Red Shirt Guy. Kind of sad you didn’t show/make that. But, they came out really cool. I thought of the Van Oaks as soon as you said tombstones. These came out great. The tips for coating the foam will be coming in very handy for me in the “near” future. Carissa made the use of the Dremel router look super easy and fun. Happy Halloween everyone.

0:21 - Y’now it would be fun to see you guys build something Trek related… The Defiant had a very Warsy aesthetic. You could maybe work a wall or doorway in your build like you did with the Nostromo. Also where’s the hot knife for the foam?
