Can We Make Our Own Action Figures

Can we make our own action figure? It's been one of those projects I have always wanted to try. I've wanted my own custom action figure with my face on it and today . . . . we make it happen!

Amazing project guys, and so pleased to be able to take part! It was kinda surreal to be playing with your heads in my editor LOL 😉

Isn't it amazing how far technology has come? I never would have imagined that we can make our own likenesses and figures, from scratch, right at home!

The timing of this video is spooky…last weekend on the VanOaks Props livestream the conversation skewed odder than usual, ending up with us clamoring for a Derek action figure. Suggested accessories were caps, sneakers and glue guns! Mrs. VanOaks sold separately! Now you know what to get Derek for Life Day!

This was fun. Next time, can you also scan the figures with the heads off and then combine your scans in the other software to get the sizes right? You can then add the posts and edit the necks to match the figures closer?

Love it! With some heat and needle nose pliers you can get the post out of the donor figure head. With a hollowed out custom head you can either fill it with hot glue to and put Vaseline in the ball joint, or I usually just throw some blue tack inside the head since no one is ever gonna see it.

Cool that you can insert yourselves into a scene. The land speeder miniature in the first Star Wars had a pretty accurate Alec Guinness and Mark Hamill. R2 was a bit budget.

Great look at some awesome tech. It really is amazing what’s available to makers today compared with even a few years ago. But the best part of the video is that the excitement and fun and sheer joy you two had doing this come through loud and clear. 😁

Hey, man. Those figures have a barbell joint. If you heat up the head with a blow dryer or hot water, you can pop that pin out of the head and pop it back into the neck slot. Then all you have to do is add a peg hole in your scanned head and pop it onto the neck. You keep the neck articulation that way, too.

Wow! Awesome episode, hay great job on your custom selfie action figures. Hay if you have any trouble getting a head off of a action figure submerge the figure in hot water for 1 minute the it will pull off easily. I have two ideas for you, 1 you could do both of your Mandalorian selfie action figures in the outfits you created. 2 make a small model of Brian in his work shop With him building one of his models on the table. These figures would be so cool in your room build.

I used my scanner to make "screen accurate' model of my head for sizing cosplay helmets. You just import the finished model into ArmorSmith to include in your avatar. Significantly more accurate than just taking some measurements to enable a perfect fit for a helmet every time. I'd love to make 3D scans of my cats but it would have to be of them sleeping which will probably not work out so well given the amount oif light you need to shine on teh subject to get a good scan ...
@TheSmugglersRoom

That’s a great idea for the helmet work! Thank you!
Glasses cause issues with scanning because of reflective surfaces. So here’s a thought: put on frames without lenses and then do the scan!
@TheSmugglersRoom
12 күн бұрын
Yeah, we figured that was likely the big issue. We also realized later that we can simply 3D model a pair of glasses and then just add them to the 3D file . . . boom, simple and easy!
