Disgaea is and always has been my favourite game series, I've been playing it basically my whole life. It makes me so happy seeing people talk about, so seeing this video randomly pop up made me extra happy. I wish disgaea had more fans

@@renyellow Kk, don’t hate me or anything, because I feel I’m quite new to the series. So, I love Disgaea 5, it was first one I played and I loved how streamlined it felt and yes, Red Magnus is my fave character, because he’s stupid I would say maybe 7 next, because I haven’t played 2. 7 feels fresh, but also I don’t really like Jumbilty, because you can rinse the game with it… I would put 4 next, because it’s cosy and isn’t too big of a step backwards from 5. Disgaea 1 is also really fun, but feels quite basic now, having played the above, but I do still like it I haven’t played 6, although I’m certain I have it, somewhere… it felt slow though when I played the demo I tried 3 and couldn’t get into it Plz don’t hate me

The most goated piece of media to ever be created.

"Best" part of Disgaea 6 was how it advertised to newcomers that the Auto Battle is an optional mechanic that would cut down the grinding... only once you play it you realize that *everything* gameplay related revolves around Auto Battle. You can't do basic QOL features like increasing battle speed or turning off animations to be more efficient without passing several bills that cost increasingly high amounts of mana. Item World is much blander than 5 because the more interesting one would interfere with Auto Repeat. Raising the level cap also comes with raising the EXP required to reach that cap over and over so now without DLC and/or microtransactions it takes almost an hour to reach it once in Auto with animations turned off. Almost every single chapter boss has the exact same map design. Baal goes back to being purely a numbers game after 5 gave him a more creative map.

The first Prinny game was my introduction to the series back in I think 2008-2009 when I was only 9 years old. I remember them saying "hell" and "damn" and "panties" and being in literal hell and being like "Wtf is this penguin game?" I still have no recollection of what family member got me that game, and what made them get that game specifically. Then 11 years later I got Disgaea 4 and found it super interesting, then got Disgaea 2 on my PC and got absolutely hooked. Then had another Disgaea binge with Disgaea 5. It's such a phenomenal and unique series, I can't recommend it enough to people.

My first Disgaea was Disgaea 2 for the PS2. And while it wasn't the first JRPG I played at that point (I'm sure I tried a bunch of Final Fantasy games before it) it was without a doubt what made me really get into the genre.

Personally I didn't grow up with the Disgaea games aside from seeing my older brother play Disgaea 3 on the ps3 for maybe 10 minutes. But I got bored one day and bought Disgaea PC on steam which is just a pc port for the 1st game and I loved the story and characters so much! Excited I played the second installment and I loved it even more than the first, I still get moments where Sinful Rose gets stuck in my head. I made my way to play all the games but I haven't touched Disgaea 3 or 4 yet. UNFORTUNATELY I have played 6 😮‍💨 Either way, I really loved the retrospective on the games as well as taking a dive into what each game added!

I saw all the Disgaea titles steam has on sale recently and kind of...bought them all except for 6 because that one was the most expensive and most people said they hated it. I'm about halfway through Hour of Darkness and I'm having a blast!

how to explain weapon grinding in disgaea...it's hard lol. rick moranis hit your squad with a beam and you shrunk so small you are now inside the equipment that despite all the destruction that ensues, it becomes stronger after. yeah, I love disgaea games.

It's really funny to me you represented your Uncle as Gold from Pokemon because that was my friends go to avatar and nickname. And he was the one who introduced me to Disgaea. Really wish he was here to show this video.

dw. disgaea 7 is for the better, not the worst. if you were disappointed with 6 and wanted more of 5 but also with the QoL of 6 with actual PvP included using demonic intelligence then you should get dis7 even in JP.

Spoilers but Adell is actually a demon in Disgaea 2. He's a "pure" demon, it's pretty much told thru the dialogue between The Masked Man, Woman, and Adell's parents. Oh, also the Labyrinth games are some of the best games I've ever played. I consider Labyrinth of Refrain to be the true sequel to Disgaea 5 even though the series share literally nothing besides a dlc character and devs. Labyrinth of Galleria is a great game, gameplay wise a step down but the story was amazing.

It's also hinted at with the alternate endings, for example in the event you beat Etna in the first fight, Adell, much to his dismay, earns the "Demon Lord" title leading to Rozalin's confusion as she states that only a demon could earn the title.

This is my opinion but my ranking is 1. Disgaea 4/5 2. Disgaea d2 disgaea 3/1 3. Disgaea 2/6

Thank you so much, I swear the whole internet is gaslighting me with how many people say that Disgaea 6 is really good and fun. I don’t really like Disgaea 5 that much and I think that’s where things started to go downhill, but we can agree to disagree on that.

Disgaea is very special to me, and funnily enough, its an accident that i even got it. Disgaea 2 was my first one ( and my favorite). Its the game that truly got me into gaming, and is still one of my favorite series.

Very true. Disgaea 5 was the best one (I always skip the stories, so just gameplay for me), but man Disgaea 6 was the worst.

This is an awesome video :) that retro KZread vibe and some good commentary+ opinions! Whether we like it or not us long time disgaea fans are going to stick by the series even if 6 wasn’t the best. 7 is looking awesome so far, 9999 level cap again and auto battling is locked behind some sort of item requirement from what I heard

Default movement speed gameplay made me cringe hahaha fun video, always nice to hear people actually talk about NIS Edit: disgaea 3 innovated a whole bunch and I feel you did it dirty here, you gave disgaea 2 credit for magichange which was a disgaea 3 innovation, disgaea 3 also innovated massively with the introduction of evilities, geo effects are not only drastically expanded but geo cubes make their debut in 3 along with a ton of fantastic levels pushing them beyond what previous geo levels could hope to offer, significant streamlining and improved options from the dark assembly... I could go on but disgaea 3 mechanically took the series to the next level and they retroactively included those features into remakes of previous games

This was a great video! Disgaea 2 and 4 are the best imo.

That was great. Disgaea 6 is not that bad... In some ways its an interesting experiment. Like the large numbers make a lot of sense in Japanese. The juice bar was a great idea. I played 5 just at the right time and the story in a weird way really resonated with me. Its probably my favourite game because of that. I spent 30 hours or so in 7, I feel like its probably the best game so far though I miss the sage class hehe. I bought a PSP just to play Disgaea 1, Vita for 3 +4 and Nintendo Switch just to play 5 (later 6 + 7) lol

I played Disgaea 2 on my hacked psp. That shit was so much fun.

I miss the days of Disgaea 5. They really need to go back to 2D, the quality was so much better.

It seems like everyone's favorite Disgaea game is the first one they played. Laharl was the best single character from any of the games imo and I still prefer 1 over the others

Bought disgaea 6 but utterly hated it upon booting it up. Essentially if I don't see anything good about 7 after it's launch I won't be buying it.

19:06 I do love the story of disgaea 5 even if some characters can be kinda annoying. The reason that we have stuff defined as "Generic" is because the concepts defined a Genre.

Honestly that’s fair, there are good story beats in 5, it just didn’t stand out to me like the other stories did

Just recently started 4. I’m digging the main characters so far.

What I love about this series is that everyone has their personal top and the game feel different to each fan. My opinions are very different than yours. For example I found 2 to be overly melodramatic and boring while 3 seemed innovative and fresh. My top of the Disgaea games will be: 1. Disgaea 5 2. Disgaea 4 3. Disgaea 4. Disgaea 3 5. Disgaea 2 6. Disgaea 6 I have not played Disgaea D2 enough to rank it and have not finished 7 yet but it feels like top 3 to me.

Playing disgaea d2 since friging love laharl etna and Flonne Im gona play 4 later I still can believe how grinding can be fun

I guess you kind of have to budget a little bit in the first few chapters of Disgaea 1 but I don’t consider that a bad thing at all. I think I like Disgaea 2 a little more then Disgaea 1, but the gameplay of both have their ups and downs and for me it’s a pretty close call. I started with Disgaea DS, though which has fun mechanics like the mini map, multiplayer battles, and the prinny commentary. Aside from a couple annoyances (promotion exam after every reincarnation and the voice acting being stripped away, I actually consider it the best version of Disgaea 1. I’ve beaten Disgaea 1 probably like 6 times or so and I’m doing a Etna mode playthrough right now. I’ve beaten Disgaea 2 a few times too. Disgaea 3 and D2 where kind of disappointments for me, though. They where fun, but felt a bit bland compared to the first two. Disgaea 4’s story was a bit better, not as good as the first two though, and the gameplay in Disgaea 4 was really fun and interesting actually maybe better then the first two games on some level. They both have their strengths though and I think I might appreciate the simplicity with hidden depth of the original games better. Things just went haywire after 5 though and all of the following games have been worse and worse. A real obsession with big numbers and a post and even mid game that’s designed around grinding with automation instead of playing. If you knew what you where doing you could beat Disgaea 1 and I think 2 even with literally no grinding, but the newer games expect so much grinding that they have an auto mode built in. I replayed Disgaea 5 recently and I could rant for a while about the mechanics that it destroyed, but I think my main problem is that the simple goals and mechanics of the early games allowed for a lot of depth and complex systems, but the newer games streamlined all of those systems because they where too tedious or something and added a new layer of complexity, leaving all of the older stuff feel like relics that clutter the game instead of the rewarding system that they where originally designed as. I don’t know I’m probably being too vague. I think the reason I started writing this comment was just to say that Disgaea 1 and two where pretty good in their own right and I don’t think Disgaea 2 is actually leagues ahead of Disgaea 1 by any means. Disgaea 2 was a fun and fresh take on what Disgaea 1 laid out, but there’s some give and take with how they implemented things and though I think the additions out way the differences pretty well, I still find myself playing the first game more often then the second.

Played Disgaea 2 tp 6 and always liked it. The end game is a lot grindy for my taste for i still love the games

My main problem with Disgaea 3 is that it's story was a repeat of Disgaea 1. Mao feels like Laharl 2.0. Let's think it out. 1. The protagonist is the son of the Overlord who hates him despite his father actually seeming to be different from other demons and caring for him. 2. The protagonist seems hell bent on projecting what a demon "should be" with their evil nature 3. The main antagonist is who would stereotypically be considered the "good guy" in the traditional sense, but is convinced they can do evil deeds for the the greater good 4. The moral of the story boils down to demons actually being able to have good inside them and that we can't just be prejudice. That and I agree with the video that it felt like less was added between Disgaea 2 and 3 than between Disgaea 1 and 2.

You forgot D2 and Infinite

Disgaea is good just like every NIS game I own but I think Phantom Brave is my favorite. Final fantasy tactics actually got dropped from my tier list for it . NIS and Atlus basically blow Squaresoft/ Enix out of the water and I am saying that as someone who puts Chrono Trigger at No. 1

I played all of them and I can sawy without any doubt that Disgaea 5 is the best period. The story is Anime shonen, that's much is true, but is also is the most Epic tale in disgaea. I was so tired of the wacky dumb main characters and stories after 4 games. Disgaea 1 story will always be special Disgaea 2 unpopular opinion I guess, the story was only "good" because Laharl and Etna are part of the main plot, I could care less about Adell, BTW Adell is not a human, it has been hinted that Adell is highly probably a Demon, since no other human is nowhere close as powerful as him and his family found him so he is adopted. heck Kilia fighting style resembles Adell a lot and is even more deadlier, he also funny and mature. He is only Edgy at first and I have no problem with EDGE after all Guts from Berserk Is Edgy too so thats a Mute point. is all about the improvements, content, visuals, music and the story is actually really good and has twists, the end twist is probably one of my favorites AFTER disgaea 1 final chapters (good thing I never use flonner in D1) The Only Bad character in Disgaea 5 is Seraphin, she just sucks, Entitled little shit, she is hot and that's all she has going for, everyone else grow and develops except her and is play as a joke when "she gets her arc" which she doesn't and is 100% play as a joke. Disgaea 6 is shit. Disgaea 7....fine. Is probably better than 3 but that's about it.

2 is still my favorite because it was my intro to the series, but I agree that people give 5 too much flak for its story. 5 has some of my favorite characters of all, and the plot of a bunch of individuals brought together by a mutual quest for revenge and then growing into a found family of sorts... I actually really enjoyed it.

It was forgettable for me. Starting numbers were way too high for level 1, I didn't really have a lot of interest in the characters, having the boss be the same thing every stage was kind of bland, the world felt more cramped to me and they even failed to add Overlord Priere.
