Highly recommend Disgaea D2 and Disgaea 2! DD2 is the direct sequel to Disgaea 1 bridges D1 and D2

My faves are 1,3,5. But I really want a new release of 3!

If people didn't grow up playing Disgaea since its iteration on the ps2 then at least this game will give people a perfect opportunity to jump into the series. I remember when the game first came out for the ps2 and how incredibly hard it was to actually find, but thankfully with the game released in so many different formats there are no shortage of ways to play the first Disgaea but more than anything, this sounds like the most definitive way to enjoy the first game in the series. Hopefully people getting into the series for the first time will get their enjoyment out of this game and everything it has to offer.

I certainly did!

I like the quirky humor the games have. And since 1 was where Flonne (my favorite character) first appeared, it holds an even more special place in my heart. I just love Flonnes air headed personality

I would have picked this up, as I enjoyed the PS2 original years and years ago. 49.99 is pretty damn steep for such an old game though....

wenchwogg I wish it was cheaper too, but at least you get a ridiculous amount of content compared to most regular games on the market.

or you could just get Disgaea 5 cheaper, which has even more content than the original disgaea

I also own the original and $50 is just insanity. When the price drops down to something reasonable i might pick it up for $10.

yeah, but no more random equipments with higher stats at the shops.... such a shame. Sure you can grind other stuff so you can make weapon stronger, but once you do have some you can already by a better weapon. That's the downside to me with the 5th game. Well

you can wait a long time. Steam 20 euro for the first game after 2 year release there... so when ps5 is getting closer you might be able to get it. well patience patience for you i guess

Great video dood! I was interested in Disgaea 5 on switch but passed. Your videos will make it much more accessible to get into Disgaea. Your right that it was very overwhelming when I saw gameplay.

@@JRPGCentral just a did you know fact. "Dood" means "dead" in Afrikaans. Although I haven't played game and don't know if it makes a difference to the game lol

@@shyguy2046 Prinnies finish their all their phrases with "dood", and they're spirits of dead criminals trapped in a penguin like body. So it could work as a reference to that I think. However the "dood" thing is only present in the English localization. The original Prinnies actually have a different dialect, using a lot of "-su" in-between or at the end of certain words. For example, the word "Surprise!" would sound something like "Su-prai-su!" in Prinny dialect.

Played the psp version. Wanted to buy this day one, but the $50 price was the deal breaker. $40 would have been the perfect price.

Nice review. Personally though I love the soundtrack! It's one of my all time favorites. The in-game music player gets tons of luv from me:)

Very good review, again loving the focus of the rpg and jrpg games and a few on the PS4 I see on your back catalog :). Again very well done, like the fact you not only go over to what you like an love but ALSO what you found issue with, what you felt was flawed. Hoping the frequency increases but going to sub in good faith as the love and passion is easily seen an I just have to hope these detailed reviews can increase over this an next year :) Got to reward real fandom when that fandom has good sound, good editing and good review structure :)

Similar to your first experience, when I first tried Disgaea (for me it was the third game) it all felt very overwhelming. I could create my own characters from the very start and with little to no knowledge on the series I was very lost on what to do. I didn't exactly tried learning it because I was more interested on other games (I got Disgaea 3 for free through PS+) but maybe I'll give it another try. I thought it just wasn't my kind of game. Anyway. Great video, as always. Keep it up!

I haven't played any Disgaea game before but I'm kinda interested after seeing this review, I might give it a try later on! :D

I dont mind playing these on different systems its one of my fave series

Favorite character will have to be Aetna and your welcome and keep on doing what you're doing.

What a great fair and balanced review. I usually expect people who get free copies of games to shill a bit, but as someone who has done everything there is to do in the game two times over, your review gets my seal of approval. You hit the nail on the head with what this release offers.

Awesome review ! However I don't think i will get the game unless its on a super sale in South Africa.

One of my favorite games ever made by far. I would even rank it higher than MGS3.

I dabbled in the end game with the psp but the amount of grind for some of the stuff is ginormous. Even something as "trivial" as leveling a character past the 6000+ mark becomes a time sink (and not very fun). The math on those unlockables is simply staggering. Hey at least no mtx!

I really want to play Disgaea 1 again but I won't until I've beaten Baal in Disgaea 5 Complete: I've been trying for 5 months already 😓

@JRPG Central sadly what I don't like about the game is that they where too lazy to up date the backround sprites when they where going through memory and kept them the same as the ps2 version.

i want the guided fate paradox for switch! :(

Is this a bit like Fire Emblem on the wii? That was a great game.

Noticed this, and 5, are both on sale through the Switch e-shop and I'm very tempted to pick one of them up. Haven't played the series at all though, would you recommend this or should I just pick up 5 instead?

I’ve never played disgaea before. I’m probably not going to get it though. I’ve got way too many other games to play. Also I kinda need an interesting story to play through a strategy rpg.

hahaha, the guy said he beat the game in 60 hrs. I was 100 hrs in and barely brush mid game.

Just play 5 and watch the story segments of 1 on youtube.

Raul Rojas nah, I've played 3-4 and D2 was the game that I invested the most time in. I definitely want to try the original game that started it all considering I love D2. However I'm not paying 50 bucks I'll wait until it goes on sale.

It’s actually not. If you read the Japanese kana, it’s “ディスガイア” (Dis-guy-uh)
