What my husband uses on the job sites is a large gang box to put all the tools in so it can’t get stolen. It’s pretty heavy so you don’t have to worry about someone carrying it out either and you have chains and locks on it and tied to it and onto something that can’t be moved. Wow, that was a long running sentence! Lol hugs from Texas!

When my house was vacant, the crew used a new small dumpster that they apparently owned. Chained down good and tight. Room for all the crew to put things in and the big tools! They rolled it into the garage space.

Yes that works well and hidden air tags in the high dollar items can aid in recovery if stolen 👍🍻

Don't worry about the footage being erased, it was still a great video. You both have many things on your plate, with La Gorce, the new DIY house in Bordeaux and your children. Stairs are perfect! Squatters: my Dad used to travel quite a bit for work. As a result, my Mom, brother and I were alone alot. Mom's ingenious idea was to get a tape of barking dogs. This was back in the '70s so it was the most high tech at the time! 😂😂 Maybe a similar ploy would work to keep squatters away!

You mom was genius! I bought mine on a big online store that start with A . Safety Technology International, Inc. ED-50 Rex Plus Electronic Watchdog, Barking Dog Alarm. I have 2 and set at different entry point areas in the house. They are very effective.

The stairs are fab, Ed - the great advantage of solid masonry is to give a fire-safe exit route in an emergency. 😎

Ed, Anna, you can get some inexpensive trail cameras and strap them in so you can get photos of the squatters. Put one in a hidden spot across the street facing the building. Or sit in a car on a “stake out” so you can catch them!

Way To Go Ed, Your Rise and Run on the stairs are very near the Golden Numbers for stairs. Im sure they are quite comfortable to walk. You may need steel panels in the widow openings to prevent Robbers entering. Best, Brain

They can nothing under French law as these squatters have, once inside the right to call the coppers ,a long and hard legal process is always needed to get them out !! 😮😮

I think I would have put a concrete step/platform for bottom step-for flooding then go to wood steps & build storage area under steps.

Squatters are a nightmare. Stairs look good. Couldn't you have used the space under the stairs for storage though? 😊 have a wonderful evening and relax xx

Concrete stairs as risk of flood area downstairs will be kitchen-dining now ,before living was only upstairs.Its coming on well it looks small at some stages and big when the plaster board goes up, sorry about the break in you put so much effort into that boarding up too.

Question for Edd about the stairs. In the USA most stairs are built with wood frame, wood risers & treads, etc. With that you have a lot of under stairs storage but yours is solid blocks. Is that because of flooding or the cost of wood? I'm curious about this. Apologies if you've already covered it & I missed it. Love watching your videos and progress ❤

I would have used wood but they get very expensive very quickly here in France and I needed to get the stairs built quick…… you will see they will look gorgeous finished

Normal they use wood in France as well but like they said the price of wood is very high on the moment Hard wood also has to be certified as well which makes it more expensive as well.

So sorry to hear about the squatters breaking in. I hope you didn't lose anything very valuable. Great job on the stairs. I just wondered why you didn't build them out of wood. You could have had a good amount of storage space under wood stairs. I live in a tiny home, storage is at a premium.

Maybe ask your neighbour to suppy you with electricity and internet to set up a security camera or one of those 'ring' that record movemet outside your door. You can shout at them too 😊 of couse you can come to a financial agreement till you get your own internet and electric.

Hoping that you can squeeze a toilet in the under staircase area, it would definitely be beneficial to have one on the ground floor rather than having to run upstairs when you “gotta go”, especially with children 😉
