Single, older gal.. Now 70. Several years ago, my truck had a problem about 9 miles from home. I lived at the bottom of a forestry mountain pass and was broken down at the last, very small, town. No bus. No taxi. Nothing. And after dark. Could have called friends. But didn’t want to disturb during family dinner time. Called police who informed me they were not a taxi service. So, what to do? Pizza place. Still open. And I knew they did deliveries up the mountain. Told them the situation. I’ll order the pizza for delivery if you take me with you. He did and was great! Gave hm a nice tip. So grateful. Learning to live outside of city conveniences. Priceless life skills!

We moved from the Metroplex two and a half years ago, out to 12 acres that is 17 miles from an actual town. Thank the Lord for family and cell phones! It is a learning curve for sure, lots of ingenuity needed.

You are a trooper. Glad you did not wonder home on your own, for 9 miles in the dark! Next time call friends even in the middle of diner! They can leave their diner to bring you home safely! They would not forgive themself should something happen to you!

I 100% agree with having someone come in to assist and you getting projects done while they are around... Decades ago, we made a 'house rule' that my husband isn't allowed to climb ladders and/or use the chainsaw without someone around... this was made after he did do that and ended up at the hospital.

You should film it anyway, just edit it down and overlay some appropriate music. It's kinda asmr. I'm virtually alone, also. I locked myself in the chicken run on a 10° F. morning and couldn't get out. Nobody to help, I finally got down on my back and kicked the run door apart. There was no way that they didn't hear me yelling in this valley, but nobody came. I was whistling so loud it would burst an eardrum. Stay safe and keep on keepin' on.

Those of us that live alone sometimes try to do everything ourselves.... It is not always best! It can feel like non stop working... Whereas havung a littke help, can free us up to actually enjoy life now and then 😁

Sorry to hear you had a miss adventure last night. It sounds like you’ve a real skill at presevering when things get tough. It’s wisdom to know, to have someone around when doing dangerous activities. You seem like an extremely personable person. It might be also wise to acquire someone to call and check in on you. Someone, who will be happy to help even late at night in times of trouble. Your friends really do want to help, and probably wouldn’t find it as bothersome as you think.

Great Choice! I also used to have clean up parties when I lived alone. Myself and 3 friends would clean and do yard work at all our homes over a weekend or two. It is so much easier and faster when we have help - some jobs require more than one person and that is just a fact. Someone should be "holding the ladder".

I would also suggest you try to find a professional organizer in your area to help you go through all those leftover belongings. It would make the process less painful and quicker!

My husband used to drive a forklift at work. The company he worked for had a rule there always had to be two staff members on site. I like that this is a rule you have decided on before any injuries occurred and because you see the good sense in implementing it. It also makes me happy that you felt safe walking 10km home in the middle of the night and that again it was a personal choice because you knew if you rang your friends they would come and help you. I hope my children (and their friends) know that I would always come and help them if they ask. I never want them to drive when they shouldn't because they don't feel like they have options.

If I could do so , on the broken casing on the chipper I’d try some JB weld before I went to a to a lot of trouble , I’ve used it on many high pressure projects like engine blocks and well pump tanks etc, most if the time it’s a permanent fix.

Ah, geez, Phil. I'd be in tears, but then I am not at all mechanically minded. It's great you are prioritizing things. First: your health and well being. If you don't have that, you have nothing worth having. Second, you love your home, so being able to enjoy it, rather than being a slave to it, is essential. Pay someone to do the grunt work so that you actually have time to enjoy all that you've worked for to date. No one ever said on their deathbed: I wish I'd vacuumed and dusted more often. 😘 It looks like many of your fan live alone and have great suggestions about emergency situations. We don't all need another person in our lives 24/7, but we do need strategic plans.

My phone lives on my desk, I don't take it outside when I'm gardening or walking the dog or whatever. The other day, my daughter's maniac of a dog ran between my legs and I fell. Landed on my hands and knees in sand, but it did make me think. So smart man, remembering probably best to have someone else around for the dangerous stuff. Great to hear you are getting some help with mowing. We had 3.5 acres in Normandy in 2003 with little orchard, boulongerie, barn and small stream. The ground was quite rough. bought a new key start, 18 inch self propelled lawnmower, 4 hours one day, same again next day. 18 months later, mower was scrap. Self propelled went first, rear drive wheels bar rusted/ snapped/ collapsed twice! Fixed by bolting it together in the fixed height position. Briggs and Stratton engine all good.

Looks like that day would be best finished just cleaning up. Everything from the car to the mower wanted to act up against you. Best to start fresh the next day.
