Dinghy cruising a Welsford 'navigator' Episode 8 Cruising the upper Tamar river past Halton Quay

Спорт

Arwen, is a John Welsford designed 'navigator' standing lug sail yawl. In this video we sail from Halton to Cotehele quay and briefly explore the tamar barge 'Shamrock'.
Other videos on my channel cover my developing skills in dinghy cruising and maintaining a small open boat along the coastal waters and rivers of SW England. I post at least one video or blog post a fortnight. Follow Arwen's blog at www.arwensmeanderings.blogspot.com
If you enjoy everything to do with learning to sail small open boats and dinghy camping cruising along stunning scenery then come subscribe to our channel and blog. We look forward to hearing and sharing your comments, thoughts and tips.

Cruising in it's raw form like this is something to behold. I love my little yacht but the joy of this is just as good. The ability to stick this on a trailer and go anywhere in the country is a big plus though.

I've tended to actually keep to South West England thus far. I was trying with the Norfolk Broads this year but the virus has put paid to that.....I am still hoping to launch at Falmouth and sail back up the coast to Exmouth over a few weeks but again the virus may well have put paid to that idea as well 🤣

Lovely video, thankyou. Loved that quay and museum, and your lead took me the Shamrock videos too. I would like to see a video of your navigation equipment etc, also more camp aboard stuff too. What about some trail sail adventures to other waters - East coast rivers, or Bristol channel etc. Kind regards.

thanks - for camp equipment on Arwen - see other of my videos in this playlist - episodes before and after; also playlists for sailing Tamar and Kingsbridge estuaries - all have videos with details on how Arwen is converted for overnight camping. navigation equipment is simple - charts and chart equipment, a handheld gps, two compasses and that's it. I also use Navionics app on a mobile phone. regarding destinations further afield - this channel and my linked blog are about sailing the coast and rivers of south Devon and Cornwall. I don't venture away from here. I may in future but am in no great hurry to do so. Thanks for stopping by and glad you enjoyed it - my pleasure. Take care now.

Steve. I’m really enjoying your channel - the only sailing channel I subscribe to where every video is worth watching. So many are just views from the ‘skipper’s’ hat cam with no explanation or background info. Your’s are almost TV programmes and I look forward to them. A couple of connections for me in this series :- I grew up in Hooe, by Jennycliff, I was aware of wrecks on the shore of Hooe lake but was probably too young to notice what was happening with Shamrock and we had school visits to Chotehele and Morewellham Quays. Can I mention one very very minor thing? Just wondering if the music could be at the low level all the way through rather than the volume dropped while you talk? My knee is recovering well and am getting more and more hopeful of buying a Drascombe Scaffie ready for spring 2019. Thanks.

Graham - good thought about the music. Interestingly i was watching David Dimbleby's series sailing around the UK again and that is how they did it so I thought I'd give it a try. Like you, not so convinced but it was worth experimenting. i was in Hooe Lake the other day, nosed in with a rib, only odd wrecks left. Glad knee is getting better - would be good to see you out on water in scaffie come spring 2019 - look forward to it :)
