Most enjoyable blog as usual, excellent video quality. I have my Drascombe coaster up for sale at the moment as i have decided to focus on my keel boats more, but your blogs have got me thinking back to all the hassle free fun the coaster gave me and am i doing the right thing??????????

Ah, advice is a generous title for what I was suggesting, thankyou anyway.

Hi - great vids. Re the "Crease" I think I've been beaten to the cure. Indeed the sprit boom needs to go higher. Put a rolling hitch on the mast and experiment with different heights to anchor the outhaul. It's a similar affair with the sheeting angle on a jib as you move the car along the deck. Worth looking at US sites (Bolger and Jim Michalak) who just love what they call a Leg O'Mutton sail using a sprit boom. I have a Drascombe Drifter (Mk 1 the Original one that sails.. ahem) and could not tolerate the loose footed main down-wind as it was almost a bag and can induce some nasty rolling in a big wind. The only solution is a sprit boom if you want to retain a 'safer' working cockpit.

Wow, again.....I just came in from working on the tabernacle with rain so loud on the shelter roof that I couldn't hold a conversation (even with myself !). That must have been in the last days of nice weather so i'm glad that you were out there enjoying the day. Mainsail looks a lot better and from the viewpoint of an ex maxi yacht sail trimmer I can now watch without twitching as much . The next stage might be to flatten the foot depth of the sail by increasing tension on either the sprit tackle or outhaul - looking at the draft from the top view it looks as though the sail is both a bit deep and the draft quite a long way forward. Forgot to ask last time but did you say you had made new oars.....I think i'm going to have to make a pair and wondering where to begin. ?

@@plymouthwelshboy that's very kind steve, I don't need oars yet but I was looking at the cost of buying a pair plus all of the hardware and I just thought that making a pair would be a nice winter project. Amazing though that out of my entire library of sailing and canoe books that I have nothing on making simple oars. I might pop a question on the JW page to see what members have done and then have a chat with John Moody about some nice timber.

Great video, looks like you're having fun. Have you considered removing some of the items from the front of your PFD? It's great to be prepared, but at some point it starts to be a liability.

It's phone, VHF and PLB. I r been able to get in and out of the boat with no problem using the reboarding loops whilst wearing it all. However, I have been thinking about just taking it down to VHF and PLB and leaving phone secured to boat.

Lovely video; thanks. Just a thought; I notice that you have a fishing rod aboard, have you ever tried for mackerel off Rame head? When I was a much younger man, I used to work on the commercial boats out of Looe. If the mackerel refused to comply or the weather was a bit iffy further out, we would sometimes nip off to Rame and try for some mud mackerel. They tend to be more difficult to catch than your normal mackerel as they seem to prefer a more solitary lifestyle rather than shoaling, but they grow very large; real jumbos. It might be worthwhile doing a drift or two with some feathers if you are over that way or putting a line out with a spinner on when passing through. I haven't been home for many years, but I would imagine that they are still about. All the best and looking forward to the next upload.

What are mud mackerel?

I watch all your videos since I am building a Navigator. Would you be so kind as to answer a building question? Is the boomkin that goes through the transom affixed to the interior of the hull or is it loose? How much is your mizzen mast Offset from the centerline to avoid the tiller? Thanks in advance, Jim Mathews , Mississippi, USA.

Hi Jim, first answer, mine is loose and sits in a square bracket under the side deck as on the plans. I use a brass pin to secure it so it doesn't fall out, not that it will when the sheet is all correctly rigged. As to the off set....I'm not.near the boat at the moment so can't tell you precisely....but my tiller.can swing fully side to side without being impeded by it....as soon as I get back, I'll take a look for.you
