Dinghy cruising a Welsford 'navigator' Episode 9 camping onboard at Calstock

Спорт

Arwen, is a John Welsford designed 'navigator' standing lug sail yawl. In this video I moor up at Calstock and camp overnight on board Arwen. Other videos on my channel cover my developing skills in dinghy cruising and maintaining a small open boat along the coastal waters and rivers of SW England. I post at least one video or blog post a fortnight. Follow Arwen's blog at www.arwensmeanderings.blogspot.com
If you enjoy everything to do with learning to sail small open boats and dinghy camping cruising along stunning scenery then come subscribe to our channel and blog. We look forward to hearing and sharing your comments, thoughts and tips.

Sailing with the sun behind you on a hot day struck a chord with me. It's one of the big reasons I don't sail where I live. I live in Texas, where the temperature is often well above 28 degrees C in the summer. And the wind is from the south most of the summer as well. I had gone through sailing course, and was following the advice to go out on other people's boats. The owner of the boat I was on didn't seem to be the most skilled. We were participating in a little race. First we rammed the committee boat at the start. Later on, when attaching the spinnaker, he managed to drop it in the water. I'm much better suited to sit in the cockpit and operate the cranks than to go onto the foredeck, so I got to pull the wet spinnaker up. In keeping with the racing spirit I did it as quickly as I could. I then realized that not only was there no shade, since the sun and the wind were both from the south, but there was also no wind, because we were going close to wind speed. So I was sitting there panting and sweating, and wondering why this was supposed to be fun. Not to mention that the lake, like almost all lakes in Texas, was man-made, and definitely not a world historical site.

@@plymouthwelshboy Yeah, it's good to appreciate what you've got. I believe that if I lived in a place with more pleasant and interesting waters, I'd be out on them.

@@plymouthwelshboy Of course. I like everything you do. Unfortunately in my wonderful country there are not many conditions for this type of tourism. That's a reason why we sail mainly on the sea

@@plymouthwelshboy I understand you. But there is only one river - the Danube which is suitable for sailing. Everyone else is too small. This is not enough for me. That's is the reason my boat is seaworthy and I seil only by the sea. Because I need almost 3 feet dept water
