@@bevalee1533 it was common to change shoes for the ballroom, but not exactly what we wear now (which are modern leather ballet shoes)--historical shoes had a bit more structure to them, and an actual toe box. I'm in the pale pink plaid. If you're ever in New England you should come dance with us! We teach about once a month.

i remember caricatures about hoopskirts and the women`s ignorance of the "naughty sights" they offered while women moved around their daily lives. I also always wondered why it was so popular for men to sit at the edges of the rooms and watch the dancefloor. I had a somewhat hard time to imagine the whole thing, never having worn a hoopskirt myself, but with the way you can literally see the lace edges of these ladies`s bloomers during some of the more active dances, it all becomes too clear. ;)

There's nothing wrong with women dancing together. Perhaps they're dancing with each other and not with men because they prefer it that way.

Women often danced with each other back then. They could only dance with the same man twice, if they were single. So if they wanted to dance, it had to be with other women. Besides, a lot of men were off to war. So they weren’t available to dance.
