I can't get 10 people to show up for my birthday party with free beer and ribs... They found enough people to do a period costume dance to a childrens rhyme.

could be a recommendation for having obscure interests... people with weird interests can be counted on to show up

Gorgeous outfits and demonstration! Watching this, I can really imagine how much fun this would have been at a country dance when it first came out.

Apparently it was all the rage in mid 19th century.

Thanks so much for recording and sharing this! I just learned how Pop Goes the Weasel took the country by storm - and that there was a dance to it! I was wondering what that dance could possibly look like, and then your video took care of that question :)

I was looking at a site about this and weasel can be a reference to a suit and pop could mean to pawn something... trading in the suit could fit with the dance really although some people think it's about spending all your money on dessert and drinking alcohol and then having to pawn your suit. tuppenny rice and treacle are ingredients for rice pudding idk hopefully it is an "eat drink and be merry" thing without all the pawning the suit stuff
