CSF B58 Heat Exchanger DIY

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video, I show how to replace the heat exchanger on your BMW with the B58 Engine. The goal is to reduce IATs so the car can run as efficiently as possible. Additional before/after data to evaluate the performance is coming soon.

Many thanks for this video bro....saved me from paying for a costly repair job with the "experts". I first noticed the AC was no longer blowing cold, only to find that the heat exchanger had stone damage and needed replacing - coolant was leaking from the front. BMW provided a ridiculous quote so I decided to go it alone. The M140i doesn't have a lot of room to maneuver but I was able to complete this procedure by loosening the bumper at the top, as an additional step - that gave me the little extra room needed to get the part swapped out. There was no way I was going to remove the engine radiator to get this done, and thankfully I didn't have to. I filled the system manually and did the bleed procedure twice to get it fully topped up. Happy to report the car is back to its old self again!

Really informative video. I know I messaged you about this a few days ago. For anyone interested, the tubing on my heat exchanger got damaged. I’ll be upgrading based on this video. What I wanted to add was that, and I’m not sure if this is because it was hot and I was driving for about 30min to the mechanic, once my coolant began to get super low the a/c started blowing hot air. Whether that’s a sensor or because the car was beginning to overheat I do not know. But thanks for all the help Kern you’re awesome.

I am wondering, I seem to be the only one around trying to do some sort of tuning to a 740i... my questions is: I am having an issue where my expansion tank is being pressurized beyond the 140 limit of the cap, and once that happens, the liquid coming back in the return line, spills out due to the pressure. Would this heat exchanger work, on my 2016 740i? I tried contacting CSF, but, they referred me to a distributor, I was just shooting in the dark by commenting on the video, see if anyone knows. My thinking is, the car is overheating to the boiling point, creating pressure, hence the issue at the expansion tank. The only Mod on the vehicle at the moment (because I am trying to overcome this coolant loss issue before adding more) is the Down Pipe, It now has a VSRF Catless pipe, and with an MHD mod, from stage 0 to stage 1, same issue of overheating. I am just wondering if this CSF heat exchanger would fit the 2016 740i B58. Thank you in advance...

Thanks for that! Does the heat exchanger that you replaced also function as the a/c condenser? And if not, where would this be located? Clearly not related to a heat exchanger modification but the reason I’m asking is because I just experienced a road kill and will have to replace some of the surrounding parts. There doesn’t seem to be any videos explaining the parts breakdown clearly.

Just an update..I tried to fit my self according the video...The video is great and very accurate, but some very important steps are missing! Like, the right side of the charge cooler also has a push clip, what is impossible to compress, because there is no room! Even, after lots of misery you could do it, very difficult to pull it out, because there is no room. To slide it in the new performance charger ( which is much bigger) is already impossible! I suggest, and the BMW service/repair is right, REMOVE THE RADIATOR and you save lots of time and worrying..
