I got a big turbo but don’t have access to 93oct. I’m making about 19 pounds of boost and my tuner says we are maxing out the octane right now. Using a 6466 turbo and it starts making boost at probably 3,200 rpm and ramps up to the 19psi. Honestly pretty disappointed with this I feel like I made a mistake and should have just kept the stock turbo it felt a lot faster. Can anyone else relate at all?

Can you pleaaaase please do a video on the new B48 mild hybrids? Thea IMO are the biggest news for BMW but man are they ever keeping the details under wraps. No fuel economy measures posted anywhere (US, UK, Canada sites), they list identical HP and TRQ measures - which tells me they are explicitly making sure they only pump electric power under the max hp/torque curves. Would be great to dig into the actual power delivery of these engines, do they shut off under coasting at ANY speed (like dropping into neutral on the ZF 8SP), how do you instruct the engine to “eat speed”/regenerate break now that the shifters are all gone? With the prior engines putting the gear level left would downshift aggressively so that you would engine brake, same thing on the i3 except it would bump up the regen breaking so that you can do that dynamically at every stop you make. How do you now do this dynamically (ie: not a drive mode) without a shifter?? 😫

I am seemingly the only person that saw this video. But before the supra was released there was an interview in japan with lead engineer from toyota where they went over the b58. The original b58 was designed by bmw and then brought to toyota. Toyota completely dissected it, stressed tested every single little piece, and brought it up to their reliability standards. Bmw learned a lot from toyota and how extreme they are about reliability. This process happened prior to the release of the b58 in 2016. The video was on KZread around 2018 then suddenly disappeared. My point being is that the further the modified by bmw, the further you get from the engine that toyota helped design. I don’t know if toyota had any input in the gen 2 b58, but I’m going to guess they did since it was installed into a supra.

Echoing some comments here, love your work Kern417, but will say there is some incorrect info on the fill procedure here. I studied the ZF formal document in detail, and basically it goes as follows. 1. Fill until spilling out of fill plug with engine off 2. Turn on engine, leave in park, fill again until spilling out of fill plug. 3. If you have a transmission oil cooler (like this 340i, add an extra 0.5L at this step, you can do this by just rapidly dispensing an extra 0.5L and closing fill plug. 4. Again if you have a transmission cooler, drive vehicle until the oil cooler valve opens (75 degrees C) (Yes it is quite specific about this) 5. Allow to cool back down. 6. Connect temp diagnostics 7. Start engine, verify between 30-50 degrees C 8. Rev motor to 2000 rpm to fill torque converter 9. Select P, R, and D, M1, M2, for 10 Seconds 10. Verify temp again 11. Open plug, until only single drops Fall, continue to verity temp. or fill if no drops at all. 12. End

12:50 Concerning the about estimated power output of the S58 and you assuming it's capable of doing about 30% more power with the injectors, I want to tell you, you are pretty much right! There is a german tuner called Benny from "BK Performance" and about 4 years ago when the S58 came out with the X3M and X4M models, he already got his hands on the X3M and tested it's "limits", he ended up at 757hp with everything stock besides installing a different Downpipe (and what I'm not sure about is, he might have changed his Intercooler to a Wagner one, I don' remember exactly no more), BUT what I know is, he definitely didn't change anything else than I mentioned. The car was also featured on quiet a few other KZread channels like "AutoTopNL", he could have went for slightly more power as well but he wanted to run a safe setup. He even drove the X3M with that power with 310km/h+ !GPS measured! on the Autobahn :D

incorrect info. There are no "tighter" tolerances in original B58 or TU or Gen3. All oil bs comes from tighter ecology standarts in EU and US. The easiest way for car vendor to comply is just to rebadge their stickers on cars. Also I spoke to motorists, they said ghe have not noticed any stricktier tolerances, smaller oil passages and other marketing bs. The only way to improve smth is to switch to PAO/ester based oil. Its 30% more expensive than say Mobil1, but times better than Mobil1 or Liqui Moly junk.
