A 20 min vids of an entire drawing, with no talking and all pen scratching. It would be ASMR heaven.
I started painting when I was 6 but I started to develop my style when I was in my early 20's and it was a totally natural process that I don't think I even realized was happening. Now you can tell a piece is mine, even when it's all very different works. You just have to create what you want and eventually it'll happen.

Nice that your style developed at a young age like that. I once read that if one is trying to develop a style, they should look at their furniture, clothing and the art in their house; these are clues as to what they like. I found this to be true. I like simplicity, not much for busy patterns, but solid colours and simple stuff. For me, a lot of it is learning to trust my process; to realize that I don't need to overwork; it's the simple line drawings and washes that turn my crank. I actually really don't like crosshatching and it always tends to ruin my drawings. We should do what we love.
I'm fairly new to art and thankfully, I don't obsess with finding my art style. I do think that art style is essentially an accumulation of your preferences in terms of how you draw and do art and right now, I still don't know how I like to draw things. I'm still learning HOW to draw things and it's a fun process. I do, however learned to love and prefer ink because of your tutorials so thank you. :)
My approach is to learn from people like you and other Masters that I've looked at. Take what they've done and then expand on it and throw my own flair on it
I'm speechless. What a stunning drawing. You have truly inspired me.. and totally intimidated me. I have your pen and ink book and workbook. I think it's time I get cracking on some book work! If it means finding comfort and ease in my drawings...and finding my own style than they're right here ready for me to put in the time! I can't thank you enough for offering so much free teaching material, as well as your books a day worm oops! They are absolutely priceless!
Been using a mix of hatch, cross hatch and stippling lately.

I have been doing the same! I am literally just now learning it. I hadn't drawn anything in roughly a decade and picked it back up a few weeks ago. I started with copying pictures that already have those styles (I will continue to do this as well) and I am now also trying to copy pictures that aren't shaded in this way and trying to implement cross hatching etc. instead.
Wonderful advice! I see people constantly fretting and searching for their style, when if you just do and enjoy the art, as you so aptly put it: it'll fall into place naturally . I feel, though can't prove, they are mostly younger folks wanting an answer because they aren't as confident as they feel they should be. And that insecurity is natural, but something we all must surmount (I remember when I was so worried about my art being accepted or rejected...that I got lost and forgot why I do art to begin with: it's to enjoy the craft, to tell visual stories, to just enjoy the moment and the accomplishment of creating). I love the advice to keep the mindset of a student! Yes! You will continue to evolve and grow so long as you're open and thirst for more education!! Lovely video, and image, as always!
Great words. Absolutely agree.
Beautiful words and sentiments. I always enjoy hearing your voice Alphonso!

What a good explanation!!! Thanks for a good video
fascinating to watch you work, thanks for sharing
That is an amazing piece. I’m so impressed! As always 👍
This is great, thank you! I've been interested in this technique for years but I've never found anything explaining it much.
that is really fascinating, actually. I'm still on the basics though lol, so i have a while to go. i just got your books, looking forward to learning a lot from them
I think this channes is a complete course to me, and keep updating, Bravo.
Alphonso, great video as usual. I noticed something that I hadn't seen before in your drawings; you have most of the lines already penciled in. That makes so much sense, allowing the inking to be done much more freely.
Thank you sir!
Didn't knew you were on KZread too, love your works!! You're the best!!
Alway grateful for new videos from you. Thanks dude

Haha
I remember when my style first started to take form about 7 years ago. It was very fitting to my personality - I did ballpoint pen art and went absolutely *wild* on the hatching. Scribbled style was my thing. It has evolved into this incredibly high-contrast pen & ink style that I'm happy with and continuing to evolve (I used to hate working with ink!). On the other hand, I'm actually terrible at crosshatching, haha. It really is up to the individual what works best.

Couldnt agree more. That’s soo cool how it developed👏👏
For example, I really like the Cross hatching present in manga and the ones that Esteban Maroto does.

Cross hatching and texture in manga is often made by using a special type of sticker foil i think (its often not hand drawn)
Informative as per usual. I enjoy your style, confidence and willingness to teach. I bought both of your ink books and look forward to learning from them. Cheers from a fan in Toronto, Canada.

Hey man, I’ve known about your vids for a while. Lately I’ve been trying to get back into drawing again and I realised how shocking I am lol, especially at the basics. So I’ve gotten both of your books and am back here on your channel hoping to make some progress. Good to see you’re still active! Wishing you all the best! P.s. have you ever considered doing streams?

What brand and type of white ink do you use? The one I use isn't nearly that opaque and I've been searching for a better one.
