Hello Alphonso. I was wondering if you’d do a pen and ink composition video. I’m not referring to the typical composition that is taught but of the composition of light vs far as it relates to ink. I recall reading about the subject many years ago but I can’t seem to find anything online or in books that discusses it. I recall some general rules of something like 70% of the picture being dark or shadow and 30% light and vice versa. I also recall the subject including the use of pure blacks. It was all in an effort to create a visually appealing of light and dark composition. I’d also love to learn more about the use of watercolor splashes with pen and ink drawings that still leaving the drawing as the primary focus and only uses color as an enhancement. Thanks

I figured out that coming up with a pose is super easy when you don't focus on details like proportion and muscles and such. Heck id go as far as say beginners should learn this first instead of the elusive gesture study

Starting a drawing from sketch or necessary and a must for me lol. I actually really like the process of sketching to finished line work before pen/ink and/or watercolor. It's very calming

Do you recall what pen you're using here? I like how its turning out with the fine lines and thicker bits too.

Very well done. This is a lesson that took me a very long time to come to maybe probably longer than it should have. It's so easy to overdo especially with cross hatching

I started learning how to draw from your videos because you break it down into a substance that really makes sense in my mind. However I do have to revisit them all over again because I stopped for a long while and I have to relearn the skills, It's a lot more frustrating than the first time but I'll hopefully get through it. Drawing is really liberating when you get breakthroughs and you get in the zone.

Red isn't really a subtractive primary, it can be mixed with primary yellow and magenta. The blue usually used in this trend isn't correct either, you get it using cyan and magenta. RGB- red green and blue are addative colours of the light, they combine to make white. With pigments of that colour you would get a muddy brown to an off black. The best results for colour mixing in art is with MYC- magenta, yellow and cyan, those are the secondary colours of the light spectrum. They are used in printing. You can get a decent black with them, although I always suggest keeping black paint, because pigments aren't perfect. White is necessary, because you can't get lighter without it when mixing pigments, that only works with light. For more vibrant colours use MYC.

One thing that could helps make the transition, is to draw on a vertical easel, or a simple drawing board angled on your table, and to use larger drawing surface, like A3 or more. The angled board makes it incovenient to draw with your wrist on the board. Bot h combine to entice you to draw with the whole arm. Also using a drawing stick or charcoal help you fforget about your writing grip and encourage overhand/underhand grips.
