Thank you! I just started my watercolour drawing of a red panda and forest so this helps a lot!
You are the, and I mean the reason I believed in myself to draw and take art seriously. I love your work, and the way you break down the topic of art technique. I haven't been drawing much these past two years and I'm only coming back now. I bought two copies of your first book (since I've had to leave them behind more than once). I'm planning on buying another in hopes I won't have to again. I appreciate the time you put into making your content. thank you for putting your mind out into this world.

As someone who’s currently in the texture section of Draw A Box, this is sure to be immensely helpful. Thanks for this, man
great video alphonso! lots of great information here that i don't regularly see on representing texture.
yeah, this was something they taught back in my first drawing classes and i forgot it, so this is an awesome refresher!
Absoolutely fantastic insightful video. Thank you.
Short but extremely effective videos. Really good for my ADHD mind! Thank you alot for all your content 🎉
Thank you so much. Great artist and heart to be teaching us these pearls
I have both of your books. You are brilliant. Your explanations are so straightforward that I always find myself saying "Oh I see now!".

I find it pretty curious that you give the exact same examples I got in 1997 when I was studying in a Comic Book school in Spain (Joso). I thought you invented every inking technique.
So helpful, Alphonso! I have been struggling with this.
Wonderful tips! Thanks!
Thanks.

Coming back to your videos after some years and your voice is completely different. Is it still the same person?

I thought I was the only one that noticed. You can still hear it’s the same person, just sounds a lot older. He’s been making videos exactly like this for ages. So the voice you remember is him 6 years ago.

@@alphonsodunn hahahaha who knows! I bought your book last week and it’s been helping me a lot by the way, thanks a lot kickstarting my art journey.
Hi, Alphonso I bought both books. But I am disappointed. The paper in the workbook is far too thin to work with ink (fineliners). The exercises shine through the underlying page and can therefore no longer be used. What can I do?
@alphonsodunn

That sucks! I’m sorry. Perhaps try not to press as hard or use ink thats are less wet or will more likely bleed through.

I know the books are meant to be draw in but I don't do that. I use the book as reference and use printer paper for practice, sketchbook paper for finished drawings/studies.

@@oldhorseshoe1776 It's called "workbook".....and I bought it as such too. I use the prescribed drawing materials. ☹

Another awesome tip Alphonso, and just in time…was drawing a fluffy dog and struggling to capture her fur. My lines were too far apart. Thanks!
The only problem with this video is it is not long enough. Fantastic advice!
thx for the helpful videos you might wanna know, if you dont already, that your youtube channel's instagram link doesnt show your work. I found the other instagram that does show it in the description of your video but at first I thought you dont have instagram for some reason and maybe other people think the same and dont bother searching for it
Been following your book, been working on it for about a year. It is certainly challenging but has taught me a ALOT about ink drawing from ground zero. I was a complete beginner and the hard and work and practice that you put into it studying this amazing craft will help you in creating some of the most amazing art.
Today's tutorial: HOW TO DRAW BALLS!
Alphonso, can you do video(s) discussing your Artist influences that made you the artists you are?
I found that line weight is the key. A barbed wire fence is thicker and heaver in the foreground and gets thinner and lighter as it approaches the horizon. Your example at timestamp 1:45 is misleading. The red arcs indicate a sphere but your hashing outline is too dark too heavy. You won't be able to add a realistic foreground texture. That's my issue drawing rocks. I make the outline and shading of the cracks too dark. Then my realistic foreground texture isn't realistic.

Hmmm. I think I see your point. Keep in mind though that the demonstration isnt conveying light and shadow, so the weight of the strokes are pretty consistent all-round the form
@richerathernotsay427

@@alphonsodunn Yes, but the red arcs indicate 3D. Light and dark shadows convey depth. IMO it will be difficult to convey the depth of the object indicated by the red arcs when the outline is that dark.
@alphonsodunn

@@richerathernotsay427 what if the light is from is front or back of the form? lol just kidding. Dont look too deeply into the demo, its meant to just illustrate the tightness of the texture used at the contour. The form wasn't fully rendered for that reason
Love your videos, they have taught me a lot!!!

may i suggest tutorial on a skeleton hands from first person perspective like looking at hands with thumbs outward and inward and also first person view of skeletal arms.
I have actually bought 4 copies of your workbook and a hard copy and a kindle digital copy of your text! I was hoping that you would be coming out with a new workbook to draw and learn with my family?
I like the video but I like it better when it’s longer cuz you go more in depth with things :p
I just bought your workbook and hinted (ha ha) to my son that I would like your other book for Mother's Day. I have begun doing the exercises and drawing lines and notice my brain gets in the zone when I really focus. One issue is a very small blob of ink at the beginning of each line or perhaps even the end of it. Should I lighten up. Any suggestions? I don't see those on your lines. Maybe I am pushing harder when I begin a line? I'm a Dunn too....
