Shading is my strongest opponent currently. Thanks for this, Alphonso!
Alphonso, your choices of language and structure throughout videos are S-TIER amongst the tutorial world. Great stuff.
The Man is back! We missed you!

Missed making content for you all 🙂
I loved the way you demonstrated shading by putting a piece of tracing paper over a more complex drawing. That was very helpful. Sometimes it's easy to grasp a concept on a simple form but get a little lost when trying to apply it to a more challenging subject matter.
It would’ve been an interesting aid/demonstration for you to have a sheet of paper as the two dimensional front-facing object, add a shade gradient in vertical and horizontal lines, and then bend the paper itself into a tube and show it from different angles so we could see the line orientation change.

I really appreciate your teaching gift. Thank you for being on You Tube!
Ive had your books for ages. Its so good to have you back doing tutorials. I really found your teaching style works for me.
Brilliant tutorial! I have always struggled w with choosing the direction of the lines. I will use your tip to improve my pen drawings. You explain everything in the most comprehensive way. Thanks. Please do more short tutorials like this. 👍
Thank goodness you’re back! I just bought both books and all I can say it AMAZING!! I’m new to pen & ink, I bought a few other books before I found yours, they do not compare. Thank you 🙏🏻💖
I'm in the process of getting a better understanding forms so that I can tackle Human anatomy. This helped so much! Thank you!

Thank you, Alphonso, for the clear and lucid explanation. Have a great week.
I've been inking for years and never had it demonstrated better. You taught me something today... thanks 😊
Have been searching forever for an explanation like this. Literally a couple of years, it never clicked until you broke it down. Much appreciated.
I just finished a pen & ink assignment at school. I wish I would have had your video to help guide me. My lines were all over the place 😂. But, it sparked my interest in continuing to use this medium and style and to practice more on my own. My birthday is coming up this month and I am putting your books on my list as must haves. Your art is beautiful!! Thank you for your tutorials.
Hey hey, I've been drawing for year's. In fact, it was your guides that got me into drawing with Fineliners/ technical pens. So I want to say thank you.
You have an amazing way of teaching. Thanks a bunch because of you my art improves a lot! I appreciate you a lot
Thank you so much and super happy that you’re back! 🌈
Clear and super helpful, as always. Thanks, Alphonso.
Tracing over your completed hands really helped lock this down for me. It very starkly contrasted the "keep it simple" concept. Thank you!
Thank you so much Alphonso, this explanation was so helpful!
Alphonso; once again, you are an amazing teacher. You help me so much by the knowledge you have of drawing, but more than that by your practical, lucidity with which you teach. You are a true master not only of your craft of drawing, but even more so with your craft of teaching. God Bless you, dar man.
I finally learned how to shade with ink pens with your technic, i have been suffering for a whole year and i finally learned how to to it, thank you so much man you rock!!
Coming back again to refresh my memory. Alphonso, I apprechiate your teaching immensely. Thank you for sharing. 💛
So simple, but extremly helpfull! This really shows the simplicity - and that you dont have to get intimitated!
Most excellent lesson Mr. Dunn !
Thank you so much! This was VERY helpful. I've been looking for this kind of instruction for quite some time and haven't been able to find it in shading videos. The hand example really helped to bring the instruction on direction lines to life. Thanks again!
I am glad you made this video because I learned something new the other day that confused me even more contour hatching which I noticed those types of lines were in your book. Doing hair in ink still boggles my mind, especially really detailed dog hair.
It's so good to hear from you and thanks for the video I've been drawing in ink a lot more lately so I've been very curious about cross hatching
A masterful explanation, by a master draftsman, and a master teacher. Thank you!
I think this video just changed my life
I'm very grateful for these lessons. Thank you, friend.
Would recommend using a fountain pen for ink drawing because you can get various thicknesses if you use it right
This video is wonderful, Alphonso! Well done! I recently bought a glass dip pen - it can only do hatching or stippling (unless a brush is used.. but I really only wanted to use the pen alone) - and this is just what I needed! Thank-you so much for this video!! :)
This is brilliant it is the best ever I've ever seen hatching and shading explained so simply. I will get to work on it right away. Thank you for this video it's just brilliant
One of the best videos I've ever stumbled upon....thanku alphose
This is great! Thanks for being so informative and also for coming back
WOW!! This is SO helpful. I feel like you've given me the "magic key" I was missing. Now when I practice, I will have a good mental map to guide me, so practice can lead me to improvement (instead of frustration). THANKS SO MUCH! I have your books and am looking forward to working through them.
