I’ve been drawing in a western comic book style, mainly focusing on poster and cover art, for over 20+ years. I have never felt strong in my inking skills because I just couldn’t get a ‘professional’ look with my finished inked drawings. These videos have taught me so much in an amazingly short amount of time. Thank you so much for doing this series David, I have been a fan of your artwork for as long as I can remember. Much ❤️

One of the best tutorials on how to advance your cross hatching I’ve seen. It can be challenging to find advice that covers how to actually create different quality lines and what to bear in mind in relation to direction and type of line to use. Having a base of shading in place was really useful. I’m keen to develop a more representative (?figurative) style of drawing rather than totally realistic yet still keep form and shape. Thank you so much.

Loved the demo! Always thought cross hatching had to be, well, crossed! But this type of rendering to soften things up really adds to the overall look.

I always learn something watching David Finch tutorials. I’m pretty sure I render out of cast shadows sometimes, but now I’ll be more aware of it and be able to avoid doing it.

This was definitely a treat. It's nice to see how to render, especially when other processes proceed rendering, such as coloring or watercolor. I have the problem of turning everything into what looks like a lithograph. I like working in detail like Alphonso Dunn, who is a great pen and ink artist, but seeing a tasteful, succinct method of rendering is great. Knowing when less is more...
