I make my own tabletop rpg, taking lots of inspiration from games like dungeons and dragons, pathfinder, icrpg and OSR stuff. This project is a way to combine all my hobbies of terrain painting, sculpting, converting and projects like my nurgle diaries. The game I create is called Arcane Ugly, and uses Knave by the questing beast as the foundation.

literally, this was how I DM'd for a "Dungeons and Dragons" game. Me and my friends never played DND before, I've never even read any of the rulebooks. All I knew was a handful of staple monsters and a loose grasp of how the game actually worked. So I made my own super loose game logic and basically told my friends "You can do whatever you want, so long as you can roll it." It may have been the most far-off thing from DND but it was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had, it might help that I am pretty creative, do video game design, and have a plethora of monsters I've made at my disposal but who knows.

That happened for my first ever game of 5e :) i wanted to play as smough from dark souls 1, and we went through the entire character creation provess until we arrived at weight. I rolled max on it and we messed up the multiplier so i think he got... several tons? Every "streneous" action i took had a 1/20 chance to cause an earthquake, and then i rolled to see how bad it was on the rivhter scale (d10). First ever encounter and i ended up burying the town we were heading to in a category 8 earthquake. After that i ended up straight up creating the grand canyon after my character stumbled down a hill. Good game, but we only played one session.

this is super cool, I really like the idea that the monsters in this world are adventures who have done too much magic or been cursed so much that they are now just monsters, I think the kitbashed models could really help to sell that idea... anyway, i love the video keep up the good work!

I this is very cool seeing someone else doing the same thing and looking for that type of game play as well. Very creepy actually how close everything you are doing is so close to what I am doing. Can’t wait to buy it when it’s out! I love small zine RPGs good to see more getting out there.

So so good man! One idea/philosophy I love is the trait or tag based idea... It's so incredibly powerful and simple. For example: when you think of iconic characters like Indiana, Batman or Luke Skywalker you primarily think of them in terms of just a few key "traits" that really define them... Maybe they're super charismatic, educated (archaeology) but have a fear of snakes... maybe they just like wearing a an inch of rubber and beating people up in the middle of the night, boom, instant solid impression of the character :) hahaha

Now I really want to play this game lol. I could just imagine the possibilities. The idea of the different starter weapons having weird effects and bizarre spellbooks with funny names gives me some serious adventure time vibes. I'm looking forwards to it! And if it's simple enough to play, I could totally see myself playing it with my younger brothers. Keep it up my guy!
