This is about a cowboys obsession with rodeo and what he has to give up to continue! Amarillo is the next rodeo he continues his pursuit! It’s basically rodeo cowboy blues! Over my lifetime I have been to Amarillo many times, it is unique with a very western flavor and history! George Strait has a Western music flavor whereas George Jones has a Country music feeling(there is a difference)!

Someone may have already explained but as a former bull rider, Amarillo by Morning is a traveling rodeo man leaving the rodeo in San Antonio and heading for the rodeo at the county fair in Amarillo. He lost his wife and then a girlfriend because he was gone all the time. I'll be looking for eight when they pull that gate is in reference to a qualifying ride is eight seconds without a foul like your free hand touching the animal. It paints a pretty good picture of how the rodeo circuit was back then. The travel was brutal but a real sense of freedom at the same time. What a great job it was.

Make no mistake, George Strait is the KING of Country music. It's not a matter of opinion or preference, it's just a fact. George Jones is a Country legend, and nobody can compete with the Possum . They are both treasures and the world is a better place because they touched us with their music. Both George's are Texans, and that's all that matters to me. I'm proud that they are/were such great ambassadors for my state ❤! 🤠

George has an amazing story. He eloped with his high school sweetheart & they have been married over 50 years. They had a daughter who was born while he was in the army, who was tragically killed in a car accident when she was 13. (He served 4 years in the army & discharged as a Corporal). After the army, he went to college & got a degree in agriculture. He started doing music in a garage band in high school, doing Beatle's tunes, then got into the old country greats like George Jones & played in small bars & finally hit it big & the rest is history. A real cowboy, an amazing singer, husband & philanthropist. A true renaissance man. Kind, respectful & humble. Since you have watched so many videos by him, you would probably enjoy Scotty McCrery's new song "Damn, Strait". He uses tiles from George's songs throughout the song as part of the lyrics. Really cool song & Scotty has a fabulous voice, too.

I've seen other reactors hang up on the wife and girlfriend line. Pretty sure it was over a time span, not simultaneously. George has been married to the same woman for 40+ years. Amarillo is just another stop on the rodeo circuit. Had a friend from Lubbock years back. When he moved to my hometown on the Texas coast he was blown away by the "wild" trees. Amarillo and Lubbock are both on the Llano estacado, a flat treeless expanse that seems to go on forever.

George Strait turned down being a part of the Grand Ol' Opry because he didn't want to move from Texas to be close to the Opry to be able to perform whenever they wanted him to perform. I don't know if that's how it is now. I agree, the two Georges are two different kinds of Country. Unfortunately, George Jones began singing when alcohol and drugs were almost expected from performers. He had a lot of hard years that affected his performances and recording. Thankfully, he got it together and gave a lot of great music in his later years. George Strait hasn't had this problem. At least not that I know of. He stayed near his family and support group. He's been everywhere but San Antonio is home.

Amarillo is a Texas town in North Texas and they host a big rodeo yearly. This song shows how important following the rodeo circuit is to some men that they are willing to risk losing their family and those they meet along the way and suffer injuries to follow the rodeo. That's all they live and some die for( alone, broke, injured and old ,if they live long enough).

Amarillo is a huge rodeo town. And George actually lived the life on the rodeo circuit.

The song is about a cowboy on the rodeo circuit and Amarillo is just another stop on the circuit. He is leaving one city and heading to the next one (Amarillo).

One of my most favorite songs and video. Even though I live in a large city now, It makes me remember that I am a small town boy, and all I really want is a small town girl. Thanks for the vibe, and for keeping it real.

I have never heard more of a tear jerker than "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by the king of no show country, George Jones.

"I'll always remember you" a song he wrote to his fans when he was thinking about retiring and " God and country music" he sings with his grandson.

This song is truly a cowboy anthem. It sums up the lives and experiences, hopes and dreams of all those cowboys still living the life.

He was basically saying that he just got through with the rodeo in San Antone and now the next rodeo gig is Amarillo and that's where he's heading. This is a cowboy that lives for the rodeo. You follow a bunch of dates and towns when you're a professional bull rodeo (pbr) and follow tour dates.

It's not really about a love for Amarillo. It's about the life of a bull rider, or horse rider, and the life on the road. And Amarillo is just the next town he's gotta get to for the competition.

this was origionally by terry stafford, and 'bed of roses' was a statler brothers hit way back about 50 years ago, but he still does them very well. the wife and the girl friend weren't necessarily at the same time lol. the reason it shows rodeo scenes is because the song's about getting to amirillo by morning so he can ride in the rodeo that's going to take place in amarillo then. (he has his saddle with him.)

Been to the Rodeo in Houston a ton of times. Much of it is shown in the video here. Great fun, great memories, and an experience like no other.

We were listening to this in the car when I was young. I will never forget this. I was JUST old enough to get the joke but young enough that I found it WAY funnier than it was. My brother kind of out of the blue said "Oh I get it"! Apparently the wife and girlfriend thing had always confused him until that moment. He reached the conclusion I reached. He had been on the rodeo circuit long enough to get divorced AND get and lose a gf. He proclaimed his conclusion to the whole car. And my dad at the wheel without skipping a beat or acting very surprised at all just said. I always assumed it was because they found out about each other. That absolutely slayed me I was laughing so hard my face got red.
