hi pete i am a coded in house welder and from what i can tell your welds are very good and judging by the heat discolour and the weld pool the penetration is spot on for that thickness of metal as for clean up there is always some sort of clean up with mig / mag welding even with pulse mig welders Keep up the good work mate its a pleasure to sit back and chill out with a beer and watch.

Im surprised ur not a time served welder the only difference is the paperwork .involved . To accrediate u as ur welding is great . Ur a quality metal worker ur more or less making a cortina a lot of people woulda scrapped it or stripped it for parts . The dip really shows how bad the metal is . Great progress, I knew there was a lot of work ahead from the start but it's only as you progress and start cutting out the rot that it really becomes apparent just how much work is involved just to get the shell ready. I admire your dedication and effort but maybe most of all your planning, to end up 1mm out on one point of reference says it all.

Fantastic Video Pete. I love your attention to detail & the commentary. Great choice on the Zirconia discs..... 100 times better than the standard finger discs, as you know. I bought the Evolution croc sander, very happy with it. Bramble is coming along great! 👍👍😉

Doing a great job Pete, you are lucky that you are in the UK as you can get replacement panels for a reasonable price. I got a quarter panel (rear wing) for my TD (mk3) cortina a few years ago and the shipping from the UK to Australia was more than the price of the panel.

Ah yes, you ended with a wish for beer,....just so happens I have "partaken" in a few beers,..hehe,...just in the last hour, poured in a premade foam 24 ounce cup with a chilada mix in a package,....."Don Chelada" brand,...and wow, I have to work tomorrow, but I will have one more and that is it. Anyway, great video, this is so great. Anbd I aspire to get myself a 240 volt harbor freight spot welder all the time these days so I can have some fun, darned, even if I just make some modern art for display, seems so much fun, I always wanted one.

Speaking of laundromats, and machines, my paternal grandmother, who during WW2 was a welder, and a fitter(of assemblies for liberty ships), she was tained and experienced with ship building for the war effort in Portland Oregon, the Kaiser ship yards, they built cargo ships to carry food and vehicles, machines etc, to for instance England(UK) during WW2, and after the war she built up a laundromat business by purchasing machines that needed rebuilt, and she built some extra dry cleaning machinery with her skills she learned during the war effort, a true story, ....it helped her immensely, especially with the funds provided as gift from her ex husband my grandfather. She was a tough old bird, lived almost to ninety years old, and was sort of embarrassed years later to admit she knew machinery and welding at one time, I mean she was a master seamstress too for the laundry and during ww2 that she had also done sewing for making of uniforms and such like that, which also helped understanding and knowing things post ww3 in the laundry business.....Veterans always got fifteen percent off on laundry services, and post ww2, there were alot of veterans, working in the timberlands cutting trees or working in sawmills in the Oregon southern Oregon coast region, ....basically Gold Beach Oregon where I was born in the late sixties. Wow, those dryers look exactly like he laundry we had downtown we used to use in the 1970's, I swear, in fact, even a few years ago the laundry still had machines exactly like that I noticed.

Hey Pete i didn't know you were superstitious lol, bad luck always comes in three’s with me ... My Cortina City & Project Bramble T Shirt arrived Yesterday, very nice too ! I’ve been wearing them with pride - to the pub Lol. I can’t wait for my Project bramble Mug , soon be able to join you for a cuppa . Your right about the cill Lips, in fact none of the edges would look right if they were perfect. Ford tolerances always allowed for a great deal of inconstancy in there pressings. I've seen allot of factory joins that are overlapping massively . Im really pleased to see you primed over the Zinc182 its dead porous that stuff absorbs water and rust comes through in no time if its not sealed in with paint . Great Job!

Say it Pete, the Chinese stuff is rubbish😁 But I Have even tried the local big box hardware store and used their $1 each belts,which didn't break but shed all of the grit in less than a minute. I only use air for safety sake, having received more than my share of jolts from burnt or worn cables. I will see if i can get the Screwfix belts posted to Australia .

Yeah mate you have to try get those plug welds complete otherwise they won't be strong. Need to go around the hole once you start in the middle.. keep going keep learning I'm still learning myself

WILD BOYS!😆👍 Pete. Try using a thin copper tube as a sleeve to fit around your spot weld drillbits but leaves 15 mm of drillbit sticking from end of copper tube. This prevents the drill screeching through the hole and the Chuck smashing in to the metal. Makes the whole process far easier as you can confidently push without to worry and your neighbours will appreciate the silence.

Thanks for the opinion on the mac belt needle file. Been thinking about getting one and the price drop was a clincher. click and collect. I agree with the welding ability, i can fix metal together but proper welding is another thing. Knew a welder nicknamed Sticky who worked on the rigs, word was he could stick weld kitchen foil.. Making great strides with Bramble.

skf explorer 626 -zz/c3gjn will fix bearing on mac Allister power file . mine did the same and used a soft roofing bolt to replace rivet, works a treat cost about £7 from bearings uk, its a high temp and high speed sealed bearing

Lovely job, Pete, coming along a treat! Blah to the naysayers, your measurements prove that! :-) Using seam sealer from a tube certainly looks to be much better than from a tin, much better coverage and ingress of the seam joint, also looks more factory because you get the excess pushed out to the side. Good progress mate, keep up the fantastic work. P.S Love the cat!

Another fascinating episode Pete, the A-pillar plus inner and outer sill fitted a treat, I do have one request (if I may be so bold), would be great to see more welding, we see all the prep which is great then you cut to the finished article so if poss could you include more mig work? (love welding) I know time is an issue so no problem if you cant, re your crock sander is it possible to replace the broken bearing? they do look like a standard one so you may get more life out of them, I have a Black and Decker like your old one which has served me well. John (Norfolk)

Now I'm pretty sure Pete and please do correct me here if I'm wrong that in the numerical sequence of things and in the grand scheme of it all 13 comes just after 12 and immediately prior to 14 or is it that going around and around in that dryer has scrambled the old grey matter a tad .. I once put my younger brother in one of those and switched it on .. he was never the same again ... to be fair though he wasn't strictly 'all there 'before' he went in, lol No matter I can go with 14 I'm good with 14 in fact I've been chompin at the bit that long for the next update 14's just peachy and when episode 13 'does turn up normality will again be resumed .. one step forward and another one back .. but in 'my garage that's usually two ;)

cant type much as on limited connection. there is no episode 13 but 14 picks up from 12. ep13 is always reserved, you will notice same on ruby and swampy series lol pete ep13 is usually the bloopers published at end of entire series

@@PeteCswampy Ah ok that explains it then, I actually mulled over earlier that you may be a little superstitious and as such may not include an episode 13 in any of your videos ... but the blooper thing is good with me that makes sense .. well i guess some bits don't get made so yeah using an old washer or dryer or machine that'll be okay, might be a bit green here and there but another dip in the acid will fix that, besides old machine good for putting bits on a cortina that or bramble has gotten to much so pete's setting up bramble the washing machine, get it washed inside a mk3 cortina, not even the usa bramy ppl have done that!

Had a Makita file sander, great tough tool. Lent it to a mate of mine over ten years ago who restores old escourts. By that I mean cars not old tarts. Never saw it again.
