WELL WELL - here we are with the bodywork now pretty much wrapped up - and what an interesting adventure it has been watching you transform a rust-moth and salt-worm eaten carcass of a Ford Cortina Mk3 that was dead in the Brambles - to this example on the Wonders of Cosmetic Metal Surgery! A real beauty will have very good bone structure - and this little lady has that now. She'll be gorgeous when fully dressed up.

This has been a long time coming Pete, thought you melted, lol at 17:18 I thought "yes!!! A blast of cold fresh air" , sadly it didn't come through my screen:( keep up this pace and you will be doing a full resto on tc starting January, I think tc would get a lot more interest as its an estate, same with bramble, you have a lot more subscribers with this one, for a few reasons, 1, how fast she's coming along and 2, because she is a 2 door, there has been a few 4 door mk3s on KZread, swampy and ruby being two of them, but the only 2 door I could find was bramble.

The underside looks great Pete , sure you could go on but you have to draw a line somewhere , and like you said , if you're happy with your work then that's enough . While l can appreciate a fully painted and polished underside (and the huge amount of work involved) l think it is a step too far , and completely unpractical unless your car is a trailer queen . Like everything it's all about balance , l don't expect the factory finish for the underside was as good as what you have done (or there would be more mk 3 survivors around!) but it looks great and is a credit to your skills , patience and dedication . It's nice that you consider the specialists to whom you farm out some jobs to , such as blowing all the dust and crap out of the seats before taking them to the upholsterer . The pattern on the seats themselves reminded me of my mk3 gxl l owned over 30 years ago , although they were all black . I used to clean the vinyl with some foam cleaner called "groom" (probably wouldn't get away with that name today!) then bring them up to a shine with STP's "Son of a Gun" (ditto!) Used to buy these products from our "Motorists Discount Centre"(MDC) which was kind of like a Halfords , only better and without the push bikes . Both the products and the shop have now long gone . Looking forward to you restoring the front clip , am l right in thinking only the gt and gxl mk3's had an anti-sway bar ? Are you going to drop the ride height down a touch or keep it factory ? (Please drop it a tad !) That scrap metal going in the skip was kind of sad . They're just chunks of rusty metal that are no longer of any use , but l can't help thinking that once they were an integral part of a car that was once somebody's pride and joy . If you were a rep (travelling salesman) in the early to mid seventies you would probably have been given a mk3 cortina . Say you were in your mid forties then , supping brewXI and on twenty fags a day (that's cigarettes to any Americans reading this) you'd more than likely be dead now . Makes me wonder what it's all about really . Before I get too melancholy , l loved the ending with the chips . I love chips , couldn't do without salt and vinegar on them though ! You can keep all your haute cuisine "picture on a plate" stuff , l'd have a big bag of chips every time ! Interesting that you were eating them in the Mondeo estate , bet back in the day two blokes had to be eating chips in your cortina estate , talking about random stuff . Just shows you everything changes and yet stays the same . Hope your cats are okay in this heatwave we are having at the moment . Thanks for this video and look forward to the electrical parts coming up - just looking at a wiring diagram in a Haynes manual (l can make out the head and tail lights !) fries my brain !

Peter, thanks for a nice read / reply always look forward to your insights, and replies, yes the scrap metal made me sad too, it was like the last stand, the end, but then again, those parts were part of something that saved the shell and at least they will be recylced, yes indeed i had to cut off the level of detail on underfloor or else ill just never move on, its importan to move on as it is to get a mirror finish, if you factor in the timescale of life itself, some give too much time on details that will actually never benefit in the greater scheme, what i mean is, the need to use and enjoy the car, as part of a greater philisophical view, we have only limited time on the earth nad LIFE is just a bunch of experiences, i wish to use the car, to meet, to travel to show, to enjoy and if you sketeched a graph, or even a pie chart, and factored everything in, with enjoyment being the prime objective, you would find a sweet spot where you cut off, in order to achieve the overall objective, this weighs heavy on my mind and im wary of it. I was always wary of NEVER underestimating TIME itself. If only we were nto biological creatures then perhaps this would not matter. at what point do you move on and say "that is it" that level of quality will do. I dont mean at all to cut corners, for me this is no good, i want decent work that ticks the right amount of boxes and achieves the highest satisfaftion on that chart, chips need salt and vinegar, Sean HAD to cut salt from his diet, i think you can see why, and sean wont mind me saying that, he used to pile it on SALT, rock salt is better but too much salt unless a treat, so i have it as a treat, and chips with salt and vinegar is sdivine as im sure you know, cats all ok, i have aportabel air con unit on wheels in bedroom and cats are on bed all ok , fed and watered, all Kool and the Gang, tons of good stuff coming up, all the clip work is on ep26pt (filmed 3 weeks ago) i just release to you tube a little furhter behind than what we are, as it happens, all the clip parts are powder coated and clip is beginning re assembly, i post most stuff on patroen but it eventually reaches youtube, yes we also had a MOTORIST DISCOUNT CENTRE here in SOuthport Lancs, this is wher ei kitted out my mk2 1300 escort van with all sorts of naff goodies, pin stripes, boy racer steering wheels and spotlamps and such like, i have many pictures of y early motring days both on still 35mm film and on vhs, i need to upload this history. I used to use my van to sleep over in with my mates when we went clubbing from 1987 onwards in the towns of Wigan , Bolton and Blackburn and Blackpool. We were on the hnt for women but rarely succeeded as we jsut lacked the appropiate knowledege of the female brain at that time......I have lots of audio tapes of me and my mates coming back to the escort van at say 2 am , 3 am pissed, then i hit the record button in stereo and we put the world to rights on audio tape before one by one we fall asleep and you can hear rain on the roof of the van and drunks staggering past and ladies high heels clip clopping and prob men too (it takes all sorts lol ) we saw some sights in the 80s and i have a lot documented. Been messing with Ford vehicles and enjoying them on the orad since 1987. all the best Peter from Peter

Great to have you back Mr C, I hope that you have had nice break. Car is looking really nice. By the time that underside is gravitexed and painted silver its going to look well nice and be durable in real life. You're not building an ornament you're building car, you get in it and go places that is what its for. Anyone who wants to lay under a car polishing it needs help IMHO. Is the shell off to paint yet? Won't be long if its not. I got my lunch today from the Cortina sandwich bar in Holborn and I get in from work to find EP 26 in my inbox how is that for fate? Made my day. Excellent work as always Mr C and can't wait for all the good stuff still to come. Good luck with the subframe hope you wore steel toecap boots while you were taking the springs out just in case. Very dangerous business interfering with those things. Keep cool geezer and all the best from the smoke Oooooohhh yeeeaaahh ☺ 👍.

The Cortina sandwich bar is in St Andrews street off Holborn circus if you're ever there again maybe take a picture of one of the cars parked outside. Sony music moved out of the city years ago. They are in Derry Street Kensington these days same building as the Evening Standard. I'm sure that I remember seeing subframes and axles in that Dagenham blue colour on some fords back in the day, not all of them though. Makes a change from Black what do you think? Hope you're keeping cool Mr C its been an absolute scorcher down here still baking now at 11.15 at night. No fun at all when you are out working in it. Looking great pete, I am surprised to see the front seats have zips on them! not seen that on any other vehicle before, should make it a lot easier fitting the covers. Also you may want to look into sprayable seam sealer, its basically a seam sealer that you spray on using a special gun and it comes out like a stone chip effect. Its used by many car manufactures like bmw, Mercedes,etc.. its really the only true anti stone chip coating around, as it stays soft and flexible(with it being seam sealer) the gravitex and other stonechips are ok, but they are not really a true anti stone chip coating, as they dry to a hard finish which can be chipped, where as the sprayable seamsealer is impossible to chip, as it stays like rubber.

That makes sense, I was going to add that if you do use gravitex, its not a bad system, was just pointing out that there are better options(although a bit more expensive) that in my opinion are worth using for maximum protection.
