I was restoring a one owner MK3 cortina XL and a faulty carburetor caused a fire in the engine bay burning down everything near the carburetor. Had a tough time locating parts online but glad everything was available. The car sat for 11 years without a single start. The worst parts in the cotrina is the distributor and brake system. I got it converted to electronic distributor and front calipers received stainless steel pistons, brake master pump/servo is from a hilux (with slight modification to 4 stud mount and push rod) and rear wheel cylinders from a 1999-2001 Honda Odyssey mini van (100% direct fit).

It sounds allot by todays standards but i should think your distances are well within spec . after the power tool ringing has stoped you have a Love Joy moment brilliant

Excellent video, with all the precision measuring especially for final seat position which is so important of course. Someday I want to do a complete floor pan,...actually I am enthused cause I'll be more prepared by then and I could just buy a old vehicle, even an old truck and do it and I cold always sell it off for more money to fund my projects, that is how I'll get into doing a complete floor pan. I sure am gonna study and restudy these floor pan videos, that is for sure. I have aspirations of working on a small truck, like a old Datsun pickup or something like that, or the usual american car or truck.

coming along nicely pete. iv'e been thinking about what fuzz said to you when you had bramble on display pre resto, "you should keep it like it is", in the end you were right and he was wrong, though the car did not look that bad before dipping, it shows you that even experienced restorers make the wrong call without all the facts. the startling thing for me about bramble is just how much of the rot is hidden and structural.

hi theres no way i have time to do more vids. It takes ages to do and I cant justify it. Im struggling to put out a video a week, i do this all on my own. Patreon is a crowdfund site that helps me. theres no money in youtube until your into 50K plus views, its really hard, you would struggle to make a living sub 50k views, I doit for the fun, and anymore than a vid a week WOULD NOT BE FUN!!!! however patreon is the reason im putting out a vid a week, i put the patreon link at the end of the films , i really appreciate the patreons but if more patreons - more filming. hope this explains a bit !! PS Thank you for comment and watching, Pete

Superb work as always Pete. Its quite coincidental you are doing to a Cortina floor what I am doing to a Mini floor. Mine is basically in on dry fit (God bless Tech Screws!) - RH & LH Floor halves, tunnel, heelboard and seat X member all in. Some fettling still needed on the tunnel. Sadly I found out Noah also needs a new boot floor which is on back order so fill in jobs for now to keep the two brain cells working. That roof has to go mate. Crayford convertible in blue needs doing ...

Hi Pete great work and I can appreciate how hard it is to not only do the work but video it at the same time..great effort. I wondered if you found a reason for the wider gap between scuttle and wing on the offside as it looks tighter on previous episodes? As an amateur I rebuilt my Mk1 Cooper a few years back and a great guy at M-Machine of Darlington gave me loads of advice, the most important being that I must do a proper dry run and screw or rivet the complete front end in place, bolt on doors, door catches and bonnet for a trial run checking door/ bonnet/sills gaps for about 4mm with locks working etc before welding anything. As it turned out I should have listened a bit harder as I ended up cutting the nearside wing and scuttle off again, but I don't know if you follow this practice or think it's worthwhile ?

Great video as ever, such attention to details that will, for the most part, be hidden. Makes me cringe at some of the bodges I did back in the day. When you did the the other side and have the new floor tech-screwed with the overlap, you could have just cut thru both layers with a 1mm disk, small section at a time, then butt-weld as before, working tack by tack. No need to take the floor back out, cutting along pen lines then having to clamp it all in place to weld it. Only negative is that sometimes I think you could be more aggressive with your editing. Using the hole-cutter, for example. We got the idea after 5 seconds, no need to include all the filming IMO. I find that on your hour plus videos I fast-forward the 'paint-drying' bits to get to the learning bits.

Hi Pete hope you're making good progress, I was giving that wing gap thing some thought as it does appear to be a little excessive, if you definitely can't move the wings back any farther to get the correct spacing I'm wondering if it would it be possible to make a couple of fresh arched wing edge pieces to take up the excess gap so you're actually lengthening the wings a little in that area. All you'd need do would be to weld them in place skim em off with the needle file and then fill over the tops so they look factory ... but sayin that with a bit of jiggery pokery here and there I reckon you could probably get that gapped right or a whole lot closer than it is currently.

  • @PeteCswampy

Hi Cuda, I sorted the wing, it wasnt bolted all way forward corect, i was using one of the bolt holes i had made on the bonet hinge bracket, turns out it was in wrong place by 5mm, redrilled and this allows wing to slide much further forward which fixed it!! also the wing was not the best, suffice to say i have closed the gap up a lot better, i still think its a little large but just on the tolerance, its maxed now as bonnet would have to move and bonnet is sat just right. thanks for suggestion!!! pete

Well, like you sink the car to give off rust but now to protect every inner corner. Modern car factorys does it, I don´t know if all car but at least expensive ones.

I was just browsing stuff (bored!) and found out that at Thurleigh Airfield in Bedfordshire there are rows and rows of classic cars that were traded in under the 2009 car scrapping scheme. And yes there are MkIII Cortinas. One with a double sunroof! I just drooled over the Minis of course. Story here: www.motoringresearch.com/car-news/people-urging-government-save-cars-traded-scrappage-scheme/ KZread visit here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/npyJqa-rh6bXqco.html (Skip to 08:13) I think they have all been de-registered but what a source for rare spares. Someone needs shooting for not getting some money back for the taxpayer who bought every one of these cars 9 years ago. Upu could set up a production line just out of Defenders!

hiya mate yes I saw this, I think I have a pic from Andy L, which shows the mk3 on the way to the airfield on a trailer, its rare as its twin sunroofed, not factory but unusual enough to get it noticed, i think its in red or orange if i recall???

@@PeteCswampy Yep thats the one. There are others. It just seems scandalous to me that given they have all been de-registered and cannot be re-registered they are a real source of spare parts for those engaged in restoring and rebuilding classic cars. I mean that Rover 75 is priceless! And whatever they fetch is revenue for the Treasury .. I am sure it wouldn't be too difficult to part them out in an organised way.
