My daughter has a 2009 Kia Rio. When we bought it, I did some research, and found that this era of Kia and Hyundai is a sweet spot for these 4 cylinder cars. The engine was improved, and they did a lot to improve the automatic transmission. It now has 155,000 miles and it runs smooth, doesn't burn oil, and the transmission still shifts great. I think that the car was well cared for, which makes all of the difference, but it was at a reasonable price, and available during the pandemic so we bought it.

The 2011 switched to horrible GDI engines and they blew mulitiple times before 100k miles and Hyundai only gives 1 engine per car 100k mile warranty My 2010 sonata GLS Gave me 280k miles trouble free with just reg maintamce! I bought a 2005 Ford Freestyle for 1800 bucks 2 yrs ago. It had 182,000 miles when I bought it. Now it has 234,000. Doesn't use any oil, change it every 5000, doesn't leak anything. Has tons of pick up and runs great. I'd like you to look at it someday Scotty. She's got a few small dings. But runs like a charm! And all original but the rack n pinion, and air conditioner. They were replaced. Gets 23 to 24 mpg on highway, 17 to 18 in town. Not bad.

PSA: Those Expeditions with the 3V 5.4 Triton V8s can be good engines if they were maintained well, namely oil changes. That generation, 2007-2014, *only* had the 5.4. Cam-phasers, "2 piece" spark plugs, timing guides, and weak oil pumps are just some of the issues that plague this engine. It's not necessarily the cars fault that the owners are negligent, because most of the major issues of the 5.4 can be remedied through routine 3k to 5k oil changes. However, buying one of these at a corner lot with 3, 4, or more owners in it's history with 150k miles is a straight up gamble. You can put new phasers in but a lot of times mechanics just recommend a new engine.

It's not negligence it's piss poor design and execution. My neighbor is a wicked mechanic and has a 2008 f-150 with the triton. The amount of work he's put into that engine to keep it running goes well beyond routine maintenance.

And it was mainly due to people not changing oil enough and letting them go 10k city miles between oil changes! (Not recommended) highway miles yes but not city So have to be careful when buying one check the records and dates compaired to miles put on between dates to see if they’re highway or city driving

The Kia with the battery slightly low because of low usage, is a common dilemma for RV’ers. I have my RV on a battery maintainer which has really made my battery last quite a long time.

I would seriously consider an older Expedition provided it wasn't rusted out or had been seriously wrecked. And if it had the 3 valve 5.4 that's a hard pass. I'll just drop a reman engine or transmission in it and drive it for another 200,000 miles. I've seen them with a lot more than that and they were still running well.

I wound out one of my 69 roadrunners and the rear diff blew out the next day. That's whst you get flr going 80 in first gear. Wanted to change out the rear end anyway. It had a stock 295 rear end and yeah I went 80 in first gear.

  • @ArshAZ83

Lol how did you go 80 in first gear? Did you have like 2.55 ratio rear and a tiny little first gear in the transmission or something? Cause gear ratios are what determine speed per gear which is why old mechanical speedometers have a pickup off the transmission.
