You are welcome my dear :)
Hi Maria, may I know you added tapioca flour Or 澄麵粉 ? As both are totally different in texture when cooked !! Anyway thanks for the recipe as I love it and it may be just like the 香糕 that we bought when young-- 50 years ago. That man brought his recipe to the grave !! Never see anyone selling them. He may added duan pandan to the water and boil them with sugar I think as it had a very strong aroma. Will try this recipe today but I will add in tapioca flour and see the result.
You are welcome my dear :)
Hi, 20 grams is wheat starch= tapioca starch is right. Sorry to make you confused. Thank you :)
I'm great thank you. Hope you're well too. Thanks for the clarification. I usually use a different recipe for gou but i'm going to try yours. Can you think of any other flavouring variations? I get bored easy. XD
I haven't try it before I don't know. Maybe you can use vegetable oil instead of butter and use for water instead of milk. Thank you ^^
Happy New Year Chef!
Hi, you can use corn flour but the texture is different. Thank you ^^
You are welcome Maine. Have a wonderful day ^^
Thanks for the recipe! Gong Hey Fa Choi! =P
Thank you, I shall try those out. :-)
You know me! lol I immediately made almond flavoured ones, green tea and various brown and darker sugars. Muscovado sugar gives cakes a nice rich taste. Pandan is another one i use. Also you can sprinkle with goji berries. I've tried with taro and sweet potato too. ^_^ I will take pictures next time, they got eaten too fast. lol I found out you can alter the way it "smiles" if you vary the liquid.
is it a much to use tapioca starch? or is corn flour or normal plain flour acceptable?
Kwan my friend, you always like create something new. You tell me please. Haha !!.... What about in several colors: like sieved green tea powder, cocoa powder, use dark brown sugar, red food colour, some decoration etc. Divided the batter in several bowl then add different colours. Please take pictures and show me on Facebook. Thank you :)
what can i do if i dont have a steamer?? thank!!
Hi, if I want to make a vegetarian version of fat gou, what should I use to replace the butter and milk? Thank you.
what does "tai ka hou" mean?? she always says it at the beginning
I cannot find wheat flour, can I use corn flour instead?
Hi Maria, i have not tune in to your cooking series recently cos' there is a wedding in the family. Thanks for sharing all your delicious recipes. Really appreciate your great effort. You have put on some weight, you looked much younger now..GOOD!! Happy New Year 2013... Sin Nien Quck Lei !!
Do you have access to a bamboo steamer? If you do, they're the best for steaming since no droplets form on the lid. I'm sure you know this. :)
Happy New Years to you too.

Hello Maria, In the Chinese recipe, The 20 grams of flour is Wheat Starch, but the English recipe says Tapioca Flour. Which one is it?
Take a big pot and place a stand, if you don't have a stand for steaming, take a bowl -- anything that you have to place into the water that you have place an other plate or a tray with holes looks just like the steam pot shown in video. Hope this help you.
it means 'hello everyone' in cantonese
Love u :))
What is "hor hor" fun? Horlicks?
Kwan, how are you? I haven't see you for a long time. Like my friend rebeccafoo said cocoa powder. Thank you. Have a lovely day :)
something else my mum does - before placing them into the steamer, use one chopstick (pointy end) dipped in vinegar and draw a cross over each. this will cause them to split evenly into four "corners".
