Gman must of intervened between aperture and black mesa. He had left trackers for everyone who left black mesa and then tracked chell. Judging by his behavior, this version met gman and followed his instructions just to buy them and have them come to aperture just to help with their portal gun.

Aperture Science private ambitions and whims of its insane owner funnily enough made it so it was way too focused on lesser, not planet-scaling technologies. Whereas Black Mesa was objectively more reliant and safer, it was practically working on weapons of mass destruction and despite all precautions, the metaphorical nuke exploded in their face, sabotaged by G-Man or not. Aperture Science in its own idiocy basically focused on completely the wrong things to cause any catastrophic mayhem that wasn't inside of its own 4 walls. And PR.

This must be the universe where cave has the same personality traits but is actually smart with incredible foresight

I like to think about this universe a lot. It's such an interesting concept. Like, does this mean Aperture also got the military funding they were after? What could having an actual budget do for the advances in their tech? Would GLaDOS still be created? And if so would it actually end up with a good ending? Would Aperture just become a more humane version of the Combine (seeing as the human vault from the Portal 2 Coop missions very much looks like the Citadel)? Would the Combine find a way eventually to Earth? And will it stand a fighting chance with this more advanced technology? Sure, Black Mesa was very advanced, but Aperture? They were decades in front of them. Would the whole Xen teleportation be ditched for the easier portals of the Quantum Tunneling Device (portal gun)? And also what about Dr Breen? He would have likely had some words with Johnson about ending such a large parts of the research process. Maybe he'd end all Xen related projects and make some more interesting stuff. There's so much to think about this AU! I want way more of it!!

My personal joke headcanon is that all of the events of Half-Life series are the results of a computer simulation (maybe - an off-shot of the GLaDOS project research) aimed exclusively at shutting up Johnson’s new subordinates - Breen and Vance, - on the topic of the necessity of shutting down the AnMat Research Lab: picture him pointing at the screen while triumphantly yelling at them “See?!?! The difference in this universe is Cave Johnson wasn't incompetent or crazy. He is a genius that's actually good at business.

I find this so hilarious because the Combine began using interdimensional travel to start spreading and assimilating as many things as possible, and Aperture uses it for what, exactly? To save money because he was going fucking bankrupt. The fact that Aperture had such advanced technology, to the point that it was more advanced than the Combine's to some extent given their desires for the Borealis, and they use it for such petty shit is spectacular. What's also funny is that GLaDOS seemingly kept aperture science safe from the Combine, assuming that Portal 2 really does take place thousands of years in the future.

@@MakusinMeringue Honestly it is probably 7 hour war since it can be inferred by the Cave Jonhson quotes in the perpetual testing initiative that a resonance cascade is a generally well known theoretical phenomenon. Of course those quotes come from an alternate dimension where Aperture buys black mesa so it could be that he was just notified of what a resonance cascade is by a subordinate... Given his tone and the fact that he owns aperture I would assume he is scientifically minded enough to be aware of a resonance cascade if it already was already widely known to be theoretically possible in the scientific community, but given Cave's personality I would not be surprised if he decided to pretend like he knew what one is the whole time despite only recently having learned what a resonance cascade even freaking is lol. It makes more sense that it would be the 7 hour war also because the Combine was a total unknown. GLaDOS should have the mental processing power to run physics simulations and understand what that a resonance cascade is theoretically possible, but GLaDOS almost certainly wouldn't be aware of the Combine's existence. The only issue there is that if it WAS the 7 hour war, you would think that you would see some type of actual warfare or any sign that the entire planet is under attack after you escape but it just looks like a normal day outside.

These were lines courtesy of Valve so I'm pretty sure Half-Life 3 is still going to be a thing. Really cool to hear Cave just openly talk about Black Mesa and the events that triggered Gordon Freeman's adventures (be it non-cannon). As far a the nitty gritty details, Cave Johnson died of cancer some time in the 90's from the moon rocks so anything after his death, GLaDOS would have existed in some form. In Portal 1 during the escape sequence an conference room can be found with a projector showing a slide comparing Black Mesa and Aperture. This means that Bring You Daughter to Work Day (when GLaDOS killed 99% of Aperture's employees) would have had to happened sometime before the Resonance Cascade, since Black Mesa was still competing with Aperture. So yeah, alternate universe Cave Johnson confirmed.

The virgin Breen: Instigated an alien attack on Black Mesa, sold out humanity to The Combine 7 hours after they even showed up, indirectly played a part in both Eli's death, and Alyx's capture by The Employers. The chad Cave: founded an entire science facility out of a shower certain company ,created a portal device as well as other impressive teleportation devices, bought Black Mesa and even prevented entire Half Life events

shooting crystals from another dimension that isnt a dimension cuz it links other dimensions but its still technically is another dimension and shooting said crystals with a laser that has the energy of 10 suns, or shvoop, point A to B (if theres a flat surface at both that is)

At least there won't be 7 Hours War.

If the Combine invasion never happened, would GLaDOS still have gotten away with her takeover of Aperture? I feel like someone would’ve done something about the situation… If not right away, at least while she was incapacitated. So, sometime before the events of Portal 2… 🤔

Me on this timeline where blapeture Mesa was named by cave johnson. Wallace breen and cave johnson becomes friends. Gordon and Collette are married and have kids of their own. Alyx is now the goddaughter of gordon. Arne Magnuson has left blapeture mesa to do other things. Issac kliener has done a great project for Eli. After cave johnson passed away, Caroline and wallace breen takes over blapeture mesa where they include both cores and scientists to work there and make them do other projects ehich makes eli happy. The combine never invaded.

Also if you played half life 2 you must know the scene about the borealis ship. You can see the aperture logo on the ship and then you see the ship itself in portal 2. I think even if cave is not gman he deffenetly is somehow connected to the half life universe (and obviusly the portal universe)

They are. In Half Life 2: Episode 2, the Overwatch Announcer is similar to the voice of GlaDos. Also, it may have never occurred to anyone, but the Gravity Gun and Portal Gun are similar is many way. And the turrets. And the fact that there is only 2 games in the series. I want to see a Half Life 3 at some point. Plz....

I dont think about AU First of all because in Half life timeline in the Half life wikia includes portal events on it And people say that portal 2 happens after Half life 3 or Half life 2

Cave pretty much saved the world from being conquered by the Combine in this world. But I get the feeling that just because he shut down the Anomalous Materials Research, doesn’t mean that there could also be ‘Unforeseen Consequences’ should Cave be ‘nudged’ in a different direction. The mysterious man with the briefcase can be cunning as to persuade Cave in a different direction.

So THAT'S why Cave Johnson is dead in the primary universe, the GMAN must have "nudged" Cave's death.

I mean, Black Mesa's weapon testing area is an unused sector of Black Mesa even though they could've created an area specifically for weapon testing. Like, what if that same unused area is actually more important?
