Can Food Reactivate Your Stem Cells? | Dr. William Li

Among the major superpowers of our stem cells is their ability to self renew. Stem cells can also sense damaged cells and tissues and send signals that promote self-healing. In this mini-episode, Dr. Hyman speaks with Dr. William Li about the things that both enhance, and impair, our body’s regenerative abilities, including our diet. Dr. Li shares information on which foods have been scientifically proven to activate our body’s stem cells.
William Li, MD, is a world-renowned physician, scientist, speaker, and author of Eat to Beat Disease: The New Science of How Your Body Can Heal Itself. He is best known for leading the Angiogenesis Foundation. His groundbreaking work has impacted more than 70 diseases including cancer, diabetes, blindness, heart disease, and obesity. His TED Talk, “Can We Eat to Starve Cancer?” has garnered more than 11 million views. 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🌱 Understanding Stem Cells - Stem cells are foundational cells in our body, present since conception. - Stem cells are primarily located in bone marrow and the lining of the intestines, aiding in regeneration. - Factors like high alcohol intake and diabetes can harm and impair the function of stem cells. 02:30 🧘 Impact of Stress on Stem Cells - High stress levels can negatively affect the activity of stem cells. - Stress acts like a hindrance, reducing the enthusiasm of stem cells to rebuild organs and tissues. - The body, including the heart, brain, and nerves, continuously regenerates through the activity of stem cells. 03:10 🍽️ Boosting Stem Cells with Diet - The Mediterranean diet has been linked to a fivefold increase in stem cells in circulation. - Green tea and surprising enough, black tea, have been shown to increase stem cell numbers. - Dark chocolate, specifically high flavonol content, can double the number of stem cells, improving blood flow and functionality. 05:55 🍎 Food as Information for Stem Cells - The emerging science of nutrition goes beyond basic elements like calories and proteins. - Food is viewed as information that regulates stem cells, DNA, microbiome, immune system, and angiogenesis. - Stem cells, being unspecialized, have the potential to develop into various specialized cells, promoting self-healing.

Hippocrates (father of medicine) believed that nutrition was the best form of medicine. 2500 years later, we are still discovering that his words still ring true. Our addiction to medication & opiods must end. Big pharma making huge profits from this and slowly but surely we are marching towards a very sick & dependant society. Eat healthy, walk everyday & importantly, love yourself & those around you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

The Creator of the heavens and the earths and all that is therein is God the Father of Jesus the Christ and we are to obey the gospel of Jesus the Christ to repent and to be born again of water and of the Spirit. Water is baptism by full emersion at an age of understanding and Spirit is to receive Gods gift of the Holy Ghost and Fire with the Holy Bible scriptures evidence of speaking in an unknown tongue as the Spirit gives utterance just like on the day of Pentecost. God is a Spirit and He seeketh such to worship Him. The Holy Bible scriptures tells us to pray without ceasing both in the Spirit and in the understanding. Ask God sincerely for His gift of the Holy Spirit by thinking about Him with your whole heart, mind, soul and strength and say hallelujah, hallelujah over and over again until you feel your tongue wanting to change and just let it, you will be speaking / praying in a language that you have never learnt. It is your Spirit praying making intercession for you, a pure undefilable tongue /language direct between you and God. It is a tangible and undeniable experience whereby you will know that God is. Also, at that same moment He takes out your heart of stone and gives you a heart of flesh and He writes His 'Word of God' which He puts above even His Name onto the fleshy tables of your new heart and He also gives you the same power that He used to create the heavens and the earths and all that is therein. With faith, nothing shall be impossible for you. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. You build up your most holy faith by praying in the Holy Ghost. You become a new creature, Spiritual and able to live a righteous and holy life with power to lay hands on the sick so that they recover just like Jesus did. Power to heal the brokenhearted. Power to put on immortality at the soon return of Jesus to be changed, raised to meet Him in the air to be like Him and to be with Him and our heavenly Father FOREVER AND EVER.

Why this information isn't in the main Stream Media daily is beyond me. To be honest I really didn't know or pay attention to how foods can hurt us or help our bodies in such a profound way until my body developed B-Cell Lymphoma cancer a few years ago. While looking for answers and information on line I came across one of Dr. Li's videos about "Can we eat to starve cancer". Since then I developed a thirst for knowledge about how powerful many foods can heal our bodies. I just never realized how different foods affect our functions of the body including our immune system. After 6 chemo treatments I have been cancer free for about 1 1/2 years. God is good!

I have fibromyalgia and I recently discovered when eating a couple squares of Theo brand organic 70% orange dark chocolate that my out of control nerve sensation/pain/twitching in the evening calmed down (I already take magnesium so it wasn't the magnesium in chocolate). I'm mentioning the brand because soy makes my nerve problems worse and most chocolate contains soy, Theo orange dark only has: Cocoa beans, cocoa butter, 9g sugar, orange oil per serving and thats it, no other added ingredients and it's the only dark chocolate I've had that had such a calming effect on my nerves (granted orange oil is also great at reducing cortisol). However I must note that I only have one serving otherwise the excess sugar makes the calming effect on my nerves backfire lol

Worth considering, tea in large amounts can remove metals and some vitamins from the blood (much in the way alcohol does but less effectively) so paring high tea intake with low red meat can lead to deficiencies in Iron and Magnesium... lack of Iron can make you grumpy because you are excessively tired, while Magnesium is key to emotional balance and stability (so a deficiency is directly linked to erratic behaviour). Many big tea drinkers like myself know this and take supplements to compensate, however not everyone knows about this.

This maked sense why I had chocolate addiction! I used not want to eat for days, only drink coffee or tea. And break the fast eating chocolate bar. 😮😅 I was doing the stem cell activation thing intuitively. Chocolate used to bread like for me. 😂 I could eat one whole 200 g a time. I wasn't over weight as I also fasted a lot. Back in the day no one was talking about intermittent fasting but I was doing it intuitively. I just ate one meal a day many days of the week. And the had sometimes days when I ate more, like a feasting mode would go on. I find I'm most productive when I don't eat too much. I'm a creative person and the modern society time table never really worked with me that well.

Being a simple boomer, I tend to keep things very simple. Make a cup of coffee, add cocoa powder, add monk fruit powder, and pour in heavy cream. It's not hot cocoa, as some have suggested. I need my coffee in the morning. Another 8 pounds, and I will have lost over 100. As for tea... Hot hibiscus tea with monk fruit powder, 1 tablespoon of home-made pricklypear vinegar. 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice from my tree. It's delicious, nutritional, and very satisfying.

I just learned our teeth are remineralizing every day... basically during periods of no eating. If they didn't, we wouldn't have the same teeth still as adults. So we are remineralizing teeth every day even though we believe we cannot remineralize teeth, reverse cavities, and heal roots. Those who get cavities and weak teeth despite their excellent brushing is due to lack of minerals for dentin. Our saliva pulls minerals from our blood which we get from our food. So if some have deteriorating teeth, but it can be improved by eating the right foods, what happens if you keep going in that direction and ensure you're getting all 19 main minerals for your teeth? You will have stronger, sturdier teeth than before, cavities will be a thing of the past. Of course, sugar will rain of that parade.

I had a cavity that actually stopped growing and mineralized over about 3 years ago. It just stopped its growth and my dentist has rarely Ever seen that. It didn't grow for a full 3 years. I had another cavity that needed to be filled so he just drilled that one out and filled it in at the same time as the new cavity. He said something I did a few years ago stopped the growth. It was pop/soda. I stopped drinking pop 😮

Ayurveda says “When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need.” Ayurveda has clear instructions about which food to consume in combination of which and in which season also. To know more read “Charaka Samhita”written by sage Charaka in 4th century BC.

There are slight differences between Greece, Italy, and Spain, but all are healthy for people who are already metabolically healthy. What about the ones who are trying to regain metabolic health?
