I’ve purchased a tegu from Rose City Reptiles a few months ago. I do agree, if and when I have questions; he have helped me and given productive advice. I’ve already made an agreement with him to purchase another, mostly due his passion, knowledge, and love for the animals he and his wife have for these precious animals. If this helps, thumbs up. Let’s show some support.

Joey, I just bought a tribred from you all last year. I couldn't take it into my home because I was still living in NC at the moment. You guys worked with me even though you didn't have to and once I got into my new home in WV you sent me my tegu and man I can't express how thankful I am and the great customer service you all provided me. If I had the room and funds I would by 5 more tegues from you all. I am and will be a customer for life. Rose city reptiles is the place to go for your new scale baby folks.

You are right, you should prioritize people who have bought from you. I asked you a question didn’t get a reply, but I’m not bothered cause you’re one man caring for a bunch of tegus and running this channel. I don’t plan on getting another tegu since the one I have is a rescue, but I do plan on continuing to support your videos since you did teach me a lot with out speaking to me directly, and spreading them to anyone I can. I would just hope in the future you would also take that fact into consideration when people ask you for your help as well, support comes from a lot of different ways :)

I bought my first Tegu baby from Joey, in 2020, a female Plague baby. For this whole crazy year, he has been almost on-the-spot with any questions I had prior to my purchase and after. He has been a tremendous help with everything. Honestly the longest reply took a few days, and then I found out that he had a become a father, so I mean you can't compete with Joey Johnston! There are really good breeders out there, but Joey Johnston will literally support you and your tegus better than you will support him.

I have been watching/subscribed to this channel for almost 2 years and am active on tegu Facebook groups. I've been ready to purchase a tegu for a while now and have a mental list of reputable breeders. I could purchase a tegu right this moment if I wanted. However, through watching this channel and seeing Joey's comments to KZread and FB members, I have great respect for Rose City Reptiles, their animals, their knowledge, and their customer support. I've been waiting to SPECIFICALLY purchase a couple hatchlings from Joey. This is the season and I can't wait for babies to hatch!

I haven’t finished this entire video yet but you’re one of the few breeders I trust. I was the girl who messaged you about the blue tegu tank sizing and all of that and even though I hadn’t contributed a penny to you, you STILL answered all my questions. Yes I do still want one in the future when I’m ready, but it’s the fact that you’re very honest about everything and you don’t have this “cocky” attitude that most breeders have. I have a ball python and I know how rude older breeders can get towards newbies (she’s 5 now) but my point being is you can tell that you’re not just in this for the money. You CARE about your tegus and you can see it through all of your videos. You’re taking time out of your day to EDUCATE instead of advertising and doing endless promotion and that’s the difference between you and most breeders. You will always have my support. I’ll gladly buy a tegu from you in the future and I KNOW I’ll have absolutely zero regrets about it because I picked a good damn breeder, just saying.

THIS!! Im not a breeder nor am i looking to buy anything right now but i agree with you 1,000% and its insane that anyone would expect to get answers from someone they didn't have the decency to buy from. It's just commom decency thay a lot of people lack. Id recommend telling people to stay out of Facebook groups unless they know who runs the group and if they are reputable because as a bearded dragon owner i can actually say that most groups focused on bearded dragons have awful information and will kick you out for pointing out the bad information. It's sad because of the wrong information they give i have a heavy heart knowing there's beardies out there being kept in terrible conditions. Buy from a reputable breeder and get your information the same way!

If I ever get another one I'd like it to be one of your high white ones. You're currently my favorite youtube channel! I get excited when you upload and always looking for a video of yours I haven't watched yet. I've watched a few many times over. You're filling a big void on tegu information and I think your channel will grow quick. I lost my Sav monitor I was given at a reptile expo as a hatchling after 5+ years. Learned my lesson. I'd rescue and put the effort into another but I really want a CCB and to do it right to avoid the angst. The one I want is ballpark 2-5K.

I think this is super applicable to all reptile purchases. Thank you for speaking up about this! I can't have a tegu yet, but want to one day (maybe next year!)... I just bought a Nicaraguan BI boa about a month and a half ago that's 6 months old now. I adore him, but I really wish I would have purchased him from someone that was as personable and willing to help as you! The boa community (especially with dwarf localities) is small and inconsistent. I really had to dig around to find channels after the fact that give good feedback. I won't be doing that again! Anyways, hopefully I'll be ready for a blue tegu by next year, and you'll have my business! :D

I do corn snakes, and corn snakes can be vary cheap pets to take care of and to breed, but let me tell you, out of 15 corn snakes, one will be an oddball and not respond well to regular husbandry. Buying from a good breeder is key for figuring out how to take care of an animal. I am also in full support for paying extra for a animal because you know it is coming from a breeder who is making sure the snakes are well taken care of. Don't cheap out on a reptile. Remember people often will pay $400+ for a pure bred dog

Each question has been answered and he is extremely helpful whether it is through his videos, comments, or the facebook groups he is in. I see him everywhere! And along with that I see a lot of people recommending Rose City Reptiles. A huge reason I am wanting to buy from Joey is because I can easily tell through his videos that it isn't just about the money like some other breeders are. He loves his tegus :) I'm really hoping to buy a high black tegu from you assuming I can afford it. We've briefly messaged over facebook about it, but I know things can change! Joey , I'm from the dog world , where temperament in large part is genetic. Do you find the same in Tegus , are the babies like their parents in temperament ? Or is there not much difference between Tegus ? Are they all a lot alike , or very different from each other ? As far as buying an animal , I'd rather pay more for quality , health , temperament, and breeder support. When I get a Tegu , you're the guy.

My wife and I just bought a black and white tegu at a reptile store. We weren't planning on picking one up anytime soon as we did our research prior from various resources. Well we had to pick up some rodents for our ball pythons and my wife goes "baby look at the blue tongue do you want it?" I asked to pick it up and just didn't fully connect...as we continued through the store we see the sign 'black and white Argentine Tegu' we looked at each other and I told her "babe I would rather go with the tegu over the Marauke blue tongue" we contemplated for a bit as the plan was not to purchase a tegu or any lizard but to look at ball pythons for that is what we breed. That being said we discussed it and asked if we could see the animal the clerk said yes and pulled him out. They answered questions about the husband stated the baby was a bit shy,but I got to hold him and he just sat their. At that point the connection was unreal and my wife well she was sold. This is the second animal we got from them the first was an Axanthic ball python which is EXTREMELY healthy/a great eater. The person that talked to us about the animal was incredibly knowledgeable and he himself has raised one and is even building his own custom 8×4×4ft enclosure. I do agree that husbandry goes down because people try to cut corners (just imagine how rodents feel because how those intelligent animals are kept even for breeding purposes could be considered negligent) to reduce the price. Ijust hope it wouldn't get to the point to where like in ball pythons people are defending morphs such as spider orchampagne going "well kinks are normal, but" or "head wobbles are normal but" for me that is disgusting people should never defend morphs that have any negative impact especially if it can't be bred out... hopefully that doesn't happen to tegus and hopefully they NEVER find a scaleless gene because as is with beardies and ball pythons is just wrong yet Perrine like it so they come up with excuses :/.That being said it's awesome I got to see this channel further to cross reference what we know and to pick and choose how we plan to raise this new member. I concur with if the animal isn't bought from you you shouldn't have to help people solve those issues... there are great references and people should take the time to do research vs just going to you for a question that's like buying a computer at Walmart than going to Frys to fix the computer that is ales displaying problems. Now do we regret our decision? No these animals are amazing we are still in shock that we got a TEGU! We can't wait to bring him home and raise him up :) we love all our animals that's for sure and only want the best.

Joey! I love the videos! Thank you! My question: some people are using bee pollen as a food additive. What’s up with that? Is that a thing you do?

I was given my golden tegu when I wasn't ready for it when I got it from my cousin. It was in bad care and he didn't care for it after mouth and I knew it would get sick or dye so I took it right away. It took me 3weeks to a month to get everything fully done for him and ready for me. But the first month wasn't bad but it wasn't the easy time for me. He was in to small of the cage for that time, I didn't have the money for a new 40 gallon for his size and I was looking all over for a use cage for cheap and lucky I found someone. But it almost been a year now and how he is health and bigger and he just turned a year this month and I love him. Then when I took him for the first time he was just super mean at first but now he lovable and just grumpy lizards but he good now.

Absolutely amazing video. I actually plan on buying a tegu from you this year, as you were highly recommended to me, and I’ve heard loads of phenomenal things about you and the quality of your animals. Looking forward to getting my first tegu. Quick question: what is the best starter enclosure for a baby tegu? I heard some say 20 gallon, and I heard some say 40 gallon. I hope you would be able to get back to me with any help I could get.

40 would be better. More space, better thermal gradient and you don't have to rush to upgrade nearly as soon. I split a 6ft long cage with a divider and will rmove it as she grows. Works great for me, hope this helps

Cheapest are undergroundRreptlies. but those are very untamed, unhandled, kinda wild tagus. Harder to tame.
