As a blue tongued skink(also omnivores) keeper I'm with you on the dog food. I don't get the hate some people have. You just have to be careful about ingredients. I mix mine with vegetables, fruit, and eggs. Mash it all up and freeze it in measured portions. Anyway, keep the great videos coming!

Congratulations! So happy for you and your family - 5000 subscribers! Thank you for all the information and I appreciate you explaining importance of reading labels. I try to feed a variety of foods, there are some good raw diets (dog and cat) with whole chicken or turkey (or other meats as the main ingredients) that come in frozen in meatball type shapes. Very quick and easy to feed, however more expensive. I’ve also had good luck so far with canned dog food. I generally look for the 95% beef or other 95% varieties, like the one from Wellness. Then I mix in some veggies and a little fruit. Our yearling Tegu loves the mix. Looking forward to seeing all the baby tegus!

Things must be super busy there. Good to see all the success this year. Cant wait to see the babies faces! Just noticed no Payload babies yet? Did it not go as planned with him this year? Cant believe the prices for the Topaz babies. Seems like they should be at least double the price!! keep it up hope we will see a couple Payload clutches pop up soon!!!!!!!!!!

Great informative video I have fed cat/dog food to my Colombian tegu and she goes crazy for it, the same goes for my BTS. I just do not understand why people have to attack those that use dog food. "It being unnatural" is really not a strong argument for them but to each their own I guess. It is convenient for me because I can easily grab a few extra cans since I also give my two dogs canned food and it is affordable when you are tight on cash especially this year with the pandemic and lack of work. I have a commission-based job.

It can be used as a staple food source, supplemented with variety, for them as well. What I’ve discovered is that better quality dog food labels are divided into three sections:1) food source, 2) vitamins, and 3) minerals. Generally if the labels is printed that way, I’ve found it to be a good choice.Thanks again!

Dog Food Advisor is a really good resource for finding quality dog food. I feed my dogs a raw diet though.

They have their moments. During and after breeding season their personalities can change. I have never been bitten on my skin by an adult tegu.

Love the video will feed my tegu. But can i feed my savannah this aswell?

What about cat food. They usually have better protein percentages. Also what dry food do you use edited to ask: what about the frozen complete dog diets like Instinct Raw, they have fruits/veggies/bone and organ meat.

The frozen diets work well. They are just not as cost effective for me and my large collection. Cat food works great for baby's because they need the higher protein.

It's awesome that they eat dog food too I feed my skinks a blend of rats and greens and fruit just like the one video you made and I supplement with different flavors of dog food that I research

I got some dog food,turkey stew with carrots and barley. Can they eat that if it has barley in it.

Do you mind providing the ingredients that I can compare to the food I am using.

Natural uvb as well as a new uvb bulb In her enclosure are very important. Whole prey in her diet or make sure you are supplementing anything that is not whole prey. Make sure basking is 120 and humidity is where it needs to be. What symptoms is she having?

Even with using dog food to... well... feed a dog, you gotta be careful with ingredients as well as doing some research on what the company uses as their sources. Be hesitant with anything that uses meat rendering plants, many of em process literally any carcass they can get ahold of, including week old roadkill and circus animals. Not every meat rendering plant will be complete scavengers but a good chunk of em are, and its a good way to end up with materials in the end product that isn't good for the animal.

I checked the site and didn’t see any tribrids for sell. No eggs this season? 😢

My tegu has been sheeding for a bit now it only has its tail left buthis tail has made little progress i soaked him in the bATH and nothing i try use tongs to pull on it but it ends up pulling his tail aswell is it just not ready to come off yet?

I feed my dog taste of the wild trout would that be ok ?

I like to use a high quality cat food for baby tegus because it has higher calcium.

great video I will include dog food when I get a Tegu but dogs are actually carnivores. They make it an omnivore diet to cut on cost which makes it even better for a Tegu then a dog in that case.

I didn't know they could get dog food... cool.

I just have one question if dogfood is the staple of a Tegu's or any other reptiles diet do you need to add supplements to it or does it already have a suitable amount of calcium and other vitamins for your reptile

It shouldn't be a staple. As always variety is the key factor, add veggies and a little fruit. Also calcium should be added when not offering whole prey and multivitamins twice a week at least

Yes, just make sure it is grain free. I've used a grain free high protein cat food a few times with no issues
