When you think of a salt fork, it seems obviously dumb and unusable. And the more you think about it, the more it appears realistic, cool, and actually a very good idea. Many comments have pointed out (rightfully) that this can make actual, real money, if you sell it to restaurants and as a novelty item. Well I hope with every fiber of my being that it does. Detachable head system for the salt fork might work. Save money on materials, since the handle is a massive amount of salt that seemingly might get wasted once prongs dissolve. The coupling system would require some work, but then you could sell replacement heads, customized bases, and allow for customers to re-buy salt fork for a cheaper cost per time.

yeah, he could sell one handle with three or four exchangeable fork heads and it'll be a lot more worth for both him and the customer. in fact, the cuts will probably be a lot more easier without having to fit the handle in for each slice of salt. possible upscaling from 16 to 32 per operation.

@@partiallyfrozen3425 Since the salt fork melts away as it is used, it wouldn't be useful as a permanent reusable utensil like metal. Take-out or delivery from restaurants will often include utensils that are usually only used once. For the millions of take-out orders people get from restaurants every day, this could be a good alternative to the plastic ones that are often used today. I will say though that the places that use wooden ones are probably the better choice since much more wood is produced than salt based on a brief internet search. I could see restaurants that want to differentiate themselves offering this for their take-out / delivery instead. It would be cool to get salt utensils with take-out one day.

If you ever would want to get these into restaurant or get it to an actual scalable product I would suggest changing the design a bit so that you only have to cut out the end of the fork with the actual prongs and then having a custom handle that the fork slides and clamps into. Would reduce materials used by at least half since the handle doesn’t have to be made out of salt anyways. In any case a super cool idea and congrats on figuring everything out, it’s amazing how much improvement there is from your first successful fork.
