Lyrics: [Brad Paisley:] She put him out, like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette She broke his heart, he spent his whole life tryin' to forget We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind Until the night [Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss:] He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger And finally drank away her memory Life is short, but this time it was bigger Than the strength he had to get up off his knees We found him with his face down in the pillow With a note that said, "I'll love her 'til I die" And when we buried him beneath the willow The angels sang a whiskey lullaby La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la [Alison Krauss:] The rumors flew, but nobody knew how much she blamed herself For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath She finally drank her pain away a little at a time But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind Until the night [Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss:] She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger And finally drank away his memory Life is short, but this time it was bigger Than the strength she had to get up off her knees We found her with her face down in the pillow Clinging to his picture for dear life We laid her next to him beneath the willow While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, l

In my opinion... one of THE BEST and GREATEST country songs ever written and sung by two of the greatest country music stars of our time! I'm sure there are those who will argue that and that's ok but OMG! Alison Krauss has become a country music legend in her own time and Brad Paisley (even though I'm not really a big fan of his) created an iconic, sad and memorable song that won't be forgotten for the next several decades! The first time I heard this song was on the radio in my truck. I was leaving a small town in the Tennessee hills heading east on I40 just after burying my father next to my mother on a hill next to a little white church. I had to pull over and stop because I could not see the road ahead of me for the tears. This song hit me right in the heart and it always will. That personal connection will never fade and there are many songs out there like that for many people like me. That is what music does. Maybe we just need more of that in our lives. Our world would be such a better place if we just listened to the music and stopped fighting and arguing with each other.

I had a speck of dust making my eye tear up as I read your recollection of the circumstances that etched in lifelong memory the first hearing of this melancholy country classic while you were rolling eastbound on Interstate 40 after laying the old man to rest. Oddly enough, Ricky Skaggs's Highway 40 Blues comes to mind right now.

Alison Kraus is a Queen in my eyes ( & ears) She sang James Taylor "Carolina" with her violin. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. James was in the front row. This song? Masterpiece. I love it & I love singing duets of it on StarMaker app. James Taylor saved my life. I lost my 13 year old son via Vehicular Homicide in 2003. A young teen driver tried to take a 90 degree turn at 70 mph. My Sam was getting the mail. He was just doing one of his chores and had been waiting for his Xbox magazine to arrive. He was killed instantly. James Taylor & Alison Kraus were the only ones I could listen to for over that 1st year.❤🤠

John Randall and Bill Anderson. John was on a bender one night after he’d lost his label and his wife decided to divorce him (Lorrie Morgan). Feeling like death the next day, a friend of his says to him “sometimes you just need to put the bottle to your head and pull the trigger.” John wrote that down and saved it. When he had his next songwriting appointment with Bill Anderson (master of writing sad country songs), he loved that line and this incredible song was born.

Yes the best song ever made !! This really rattled my heart or may I SAY MY WHOLE BEING !! You know music has got me through life at times got to have my music!! I know some people could care less if they listen to music and to me that’s heartbreaking!! Music has done so much for me !! Helps with a broken heart makes me happy as can be also !! And they are few but man when a song comes along and just take you to the moon !! There has been times I have gotten on a person last nerve because I WILL PLAY A SONG THAT GETS ME OVER AND OVER I CANT HEAR IT ENOUGH!! The first time I SEEN THE VIDEO TO WHISKY LULLABY and seen where he leaves the house after catching the love of his life with another he falls to the ground I have been there but I just feel that pain so bad !! I always was pretty strong physically but you mess with my feelings I JUST FALL NOTHING WORSE THEN A HEART BREAK!! Wouldn’t want to go back to those years for nothing!! So grateful for my peace now!!

The world is about to explode in a fever of self-indulgence. And our icons owe us. They need to stand together to change our group think. WE must demand those we have given so much love to give back and stand for peace in our country and in our world. Our icons can change the world and it is time they do so or they no longer deserve our love. Spread the word. Peace!

A beautiful, but very hurtful song ever written indeed.. When I saw the video of this song, it's just too much to take, when you take it to the reality of life, which is unlikely happens to everyone. So please, take care of whom you are with, be careful not to make mistakes outside your relationship, otherwise you and your partner will end up like the video clip of this song ✌❤

Incredible song that hits home like a sledgehammer. The phrase "Better to have loved and lost, than never loved at all", holds NO merit to people like me who've repeatedly experienced what I have, learning some form of masked 'new lesson' every time. Sadly, no one will ever know what this song truly means, until they unfortunately have their heart absolutely CRUSHED by a partner, who with they fell so much in love, gets up and walks away from them forever. I've been devastated a few times to the point now where - I'm almost 60 years old and live by one single rule - to never fall in love, ever again. It's been really working well, the last 12 years - no more 'lessons' for me, thoughts of suicide haven't crossed my mind once. I'd much rather after all, be alone, than be LEFT alone.

I've lived this exact same life. Been single for almost 20 years, because, when I married I married for life. I was in one relationship after that who also hurt me. I never have vowed to not love again, because I have to hope and believe that God will surely give me the right man at the right time. I guess I had to learn some hard lessons alone all this time, but I know what I want at this point in life. I'm 53 and feel like maybe the next chapter is just beginning. I guess what I'm trying to say is never give up hope. There REALLY are some of us good women left out there suffering the same as you protecting our hearts and souls. I've worked my entire life and just retired so I guess we shall see what the next chapter holds. Have faith my friend, the Lord knows what He's doing and whether we believe it or not the right one has yet to truly come along. Love and blessings to you 💞💫💞
