Great job! Please continue with other topics, for example, forks oil change, and chain change. There is almost no maintenance videos about g650x on KZread. I would really love to see how to mount the gear indicator on that bike. Thanks again for the content.

Nice video, and I like your style. I followed the process in the video successfully today. Your video was a good guide. For others doing this, I would like to emphasize the importance of filling the oil back up slowly, and doing about 0.7 liter and letting it settle before doing much more. Perhaps the oil will settle on its own, but it takes awhile. This is the importance of running the engine briefly -- it moves the oil from the top to the bottom more quickly than gravity does. If you try to put too much in, the oil will overflow and run down much of the engine while you freak out about it. So, fill slowly people! I agree on getting to the right level at about 2.3 liter, after a few rounds of slowly filling. It takes a long time for the oil to settle back down after the engine runs to check the level properly, and new oil is always so clean it might be hard to see. I opened the big drain plug before I tried to drain the "second tank" with the hose. Thus, I got very little oil coming out via the hose, and I think the "top tank" drained slowly out the bottom before I had the plastic hose hooked up. It is good to have the bike on a center stand or bench to keep it upright and level. If it's on the side stand, the oil doesn't run out of the filter housing very well, and it just dribbles down the bike. I know because I did it. If the bike were level, it would run down the index card or cardboard very nicely, I think. But as hard as I try to be neat, I seem to spill as much oil as I get in the bike, or anything else where I'm changing oil. Meh.

Man that bike is not easy to change the oil. As always great job. I work in my Kawasaki 1500 Classic and watching you work makes me work on my bike and the right way. Thank you. Randy.

Hi Old Mechanic, thanks for the great and helpful video. I have a problem here in Croatia. Castrol Power RS oil is not available on the market. I see that it is available in the rest of the EU, but does that oil exist under a new name in Castrol? Castrol Power RS has the specification API SN • JASO MA-2 (T903:2016) • JASO MA-2. Another oil available in Croatia is Castrol Power 1 Racing 10/40 and it has the same specification as the one you recommended API SN • JASO MA-2 (T903:2016) • JASO MA-2. Regards..

What happened to the 1.7l followed by 0.6l ? ....You put the 1.7l in, ran the engine for 30 secs.... then instead of adding another 0.6l you appear to be topping up to the level marking on the dipstick...which is wrong...you should put in another 0.6l (making 2.3l in total) then run the engine until the fan kicks in, switch engine off, wait 1 minute, then check oil level. great video for letting folk know where the parts are and torque settings 👌

@@TheOldMechanic My dad passed away and left me a G 650 XChallange behind. I hope I can fix it, it stood around for years, you helped me out a lot really! And I plan to drive all the way up to the noth cape in norway with his bike. He always dreamed of seeing the northern lights, since im too afraid to travel this far in winter he has to accept that the place is right but the season not. What do you think will this motortype in an Enduro will bring me that far?

Hello, Thank you very much for your videos. I'm going to do my oil change. But under the motorcycle, there is another plug next to the drain plug and mine leaks. What is this second cap for and what precautions should I take to change the seal (copper washer?) Thank you very much if you can answer me.

The 2nd plug at the bottom only becomes a question if you take the skid plate off, because the oil drain bolt lines up with a hole in the skid plate. I took the skid plate off first, as Old Mechanic suggests, and I saw the 2nd plug, and I was confused for a moment, but figured it out. The real drain plug is at the absolute bottom, where the other one is a big higher, at a slight angle. I do not know what the purpose of the 2nd plug is. They are both 24mm too, just to add more confusion, it seems.

Great video! Just bought a country, which is dripping oil from a couple of points. Will have to replace an oil line (oil tank to engine) and a gasket or two. Would 10w40 fully synthetic be ok, do you think?

Sorry for beginner question, why are there 2 different oil drains? i didnt understand you said something as "exhaust something" sorry english is not my first language), are there two oil tanks we have to fill as well with the new oil? Is it the same on an Xchallenge? thanks for your patience!! 🙏

I have an X-challenge, and I followed this process successfully. There are not 2 oil tanks to fill. All oil goes in the dipstick hole. Gotta fill it slowly (see my other comment).
