Many years ago, I worked in a pharmacy. We had a hurricane warning, and all of a sudden, my entire town decided they needed batteries. We sold out of all the common sizes almost immediately, and so did all the local suppliers we tried. Most people wanted C and D cells for radios and flashlights, but AA and AAA sizes were wiped out too. We even sold out of the rectangular 9v batteries. No idea what people were using those for. This crazy rush happened over about two days, with the last few hours before the hurricane being the craziest. We did not sell a single CR123A cell during that whole time. We had a bunch of them, but nobody wanted them. In other words, it pays to have at least one flashlight that can use CR123A batteries, because they are widely available, but not widely used by the general public.

How many years ago and where? Here in Southern California, CR123A have become somewhat common use in the past 5 years. Before you had to go to a gun store or Military surplus. Now Wal -Mart and Home Depot carry them and even they sometimes run out.

@@spacepope87 Hardly anyone carries a gun on Long Island either, it's one of the most restrictive places in the country. I don't think other defensive tools are very common there either though. A lot of women have pepper spray, but there's not many 'tactical' type people.

I keep this light as my backup to my main edc light, which happens to be the Protac 1L that takes only the CR123. That 1L has taken a MAJOR beating and is still running like a champ. Being that it’s much smaller than the 1L-1AA makes it a much better edc light. The 1L-1AA is just as good, and having the option to run the different battery is always a plus, tho I had no clue it took AAA’s as well. I’ll have to test that. I too will endorse this light as well as the standard 1L! Great choices!

Love this light but when the battery goes it goes, it doesn’t slowly dim, it just dies. With no heads up on battery life, I’ve been left in the dark a time or two. But I’d still recommend it. Well worth the money.

The 1L-1AA is the best all purpose flashlight IMO. I have them stashed in every bag, pack, drawer and glovebox I own. Requires a single battery cell, either AA (most common battery on the planet) or CR123. Wonderful output/battery life ratio. High and Low beam. IPX7 waterproof rating. Extremely durable and reliable. Stupid simple user interface. Press or Click on and off. Short of a High Output Searchlight (like the HX-5) there is no reason to purchase any other light besides the 1L-AA.

The fact that it takes 3 different batteries and is bright enough to light up a room, it probably makes it the best survival light. What I don't like is that it doesn't last as long as it says. I have two. Both bought from Galls. One only lasts 12 minutes and the other 25 on 350 lumens. But to be fair I have a Surefire that also doesn't last nearly as long as advertised. I wish they made one that could accept 2 AAA, AA or CR123A batteries.

Used this light as my EDC light for the last year or so. Didn't know it could take the AAA batteries. So good to know. No complaints about it. Been running it with a rechargeable CR123 and it's been decent. Only complaint I have about it is the short run time. But otherwise it's a great light. Recently upgraded to the protac 2Lx because I thought I had lost my other one. Loved the duel fuel (and apparently triple fuel ) ability of this little light and it's now my backup light.
