How do these rechargeable batteries hold up to cold weather, say stored in vehicle in canada. Every rechargeable device I've stored in the cold stops holding a charge very quickly.

There's no work around for current battery technology for resisting extremely cold temperatures. The best solution is to have it warm, and the best solution I know of is to use something you can carry in a pocket close to your body. Your body temperature is a heat source you can take advantage of and you really have no choice other than to maintain your body temperature or you die. Flashlights of the smaller size don't have much thermal mass to keep up to operating temperature. And in a snowy winter environment you really don't need very much light outdoors because the snow acts as a reflective lens extension of your flashlight. I do have a soft spot for headlamps, and i'll take a moment to preach about them :). You only have two hands, and if you're using them while needing artificial light, you instantly become an amputee... unless you have a headlamp and don't mind the social consequences of wearing one. There is the exception of magnetic lights and i really like using those for repairing vehicles or any other task that has a ferromagnetic surface you can take advantage of. Really though I used to use flashlights and often had to hold them in my mouth, until i got introduced to headlamps. I still get questions about why i wear a "cave lamp", but that shouldn't bother anyone who's not unduly concerned of what others think.

What I really hate are flashlights with a built in non removable battery, for one because if they get empty you can't simply change the battery, only recharge them which takes time, and for two because if the battery dies you can throw away the whole flashlight, and the lifespan of batteries is always less than the lifetime on Leds

We just had a long term power outage and .. along with my headlamp .. i have several which I couldn't live without .. along with those I find myself reaching for my favorite small flashlight .. had the same one for years and years and it's always there and perfect in every way .. strong, balanced, bright, perfect .. easy to replace the AAA's .. and can carry it in any pocket .. the Rayovac DIY3AAA-B .. the end mounted switch works .. and so does the medium to bright two click setting. I just bought two more of these. Thanks.

Question. I seem to keep buying flashlights thinking the next one will fill my needs better than one I already own; but I cannot seem to find one that is perfect. If I gave you some criteria for the perfect flashlight would you be able to recommend one to me that fits those needs. I need help. I currently EDC the Streamlight ProTac 2L-X and have no issue with the size. Criteria. Size: 4 inches or less in length and no greater than one inch wide, and tubular in design with little to no flare out. Rear button push activation only, with no side button operation (this is important to avoid accidental activation in the pocket). Pocket clip with illumination side down, button side up. 18650 battery. Power: it needs to have an ultra low mode of no greater than 5 lumens, at least one mid-range power mode, and a max range of 500 lumens or more (I care less about having more than 500 lumens than I do about having a low mode with less than 5 lumens). I have a side button operated light that has the ultra low mode with a side button activation, and I love the light; but it turns on all the time unless I lock it out. I have to then wait 5 seconds to unlock it which is so stupid. I want a light which has ultra low mode, ultra long battery life, and is rear button push only. The ultra low mode is the mode I use most often. I don't know if this light exists; but if you know of one I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Thanks so much. I'm a long time viewer and love the channel. Thanks.

I'm a flashlight junkie. I review alot of lights....surefire streamlight olight thrunite and others. I only say yes to the lights I 99% like already on paper. The thing I hate doing is posting a review the same time as everyone else. I'll take my time and test them on duty as a cop first for a month. I also have to mention the cons and not just the pros. In some cases I flat out decline to do reviews because I have a certain standard. I want my viewers to buy the best bang for the buck. Keep up the good work bro.

Sarge PalmettoVIP hey thanks! I just dont see a reason to purchase an olight if it steps down for any reason. It’s somewhat like building a 500 horsepower race car for the drag strip; and half way down the track the car drops 50% of its horsepower because it’s too hot...

I’m currently rocking the Streamlight Protec 1L-1aa. I have several cr123 powered platform but from a prepping standpoint I wanted a light that could use (all be it at reduce capability) a AA as a primary. When you throw out the 8 billion lumens race and focus is availability of batteries the field narrows.

Out of all the things we can get, use, or need for a SHTF scenarios, the flashlight is my obsession. I don’t have a lot of them (11 to be exact. And two of them I have four of, one for each family member). But you’re right, doing reviews on all of that is tedious without much in terms of what you’re looking for in views. Thanks for going through all that for people like me. Now I don’t need to go through dozens to decide. Olight is the obvious choice for me.

Have had a ArmyTek Predator in the past, but it had reliability issues. Biggest issues was the lack of Customer Service support. Wanted a video of the issues, before they would do anything. Never has this issue with Olight, Fenix or Surefire. So, never went back to ArmyTek. May have changed recently. With so many competitors out there, it only takes one bad customer experience to have a customer move to a competitor.

Our lines are about 30’ up and once we find the problem we have to fix it which could take all night. As a "normal" person a phonton light is the best flashlight you can have. Put them either on your keys or, in an outdoor/military setting on your pacebeads (after removing the metal). If you intend to use them for defensive purpose get different ones but for utility tasks they work great. It can also be usefull to have a cheap headlamp with your medical stuff and/or in your vehicle.

Personally I've had very good experience with the Lenser-style adjustable throwing arc sytem, though not from the exact company. I currently use a Walther PL30 as my EDC light and even though it has only 90 Lumens, I can get a good 100m throw if I fully focus the light.

Awesome review on the Acebeam W30. My son also did lose my best EDC (Rigid Indusrtry 800LM) and yes I still have the MagLite sitting in my garage collecting dust. Looking for new EDC to purchase and maybe also the Acebeam W30 but the price you mention must in in US dollars. Its 389CAD on Amazon. Maybe you have a better link to one.

Good Video. Yeah, Ben and Chris know their Lights. Great Channels! I've bought Lights based on their Recommendations, and have not been disappointed. However, although I have a few Lights based on Rechargeable 18650s, I'm finding myself carrying MODERN Lights that use AA/AAA batteries, even though they aren't Lithium. It's because of Availability. I can get Bulk packs of Duracells at Costco, or I can get a Four Pack and toss them into my Desk Drawer or Glove Box and be good to go. The others? Got to go Online and hope no one steals it off my Porch. So thanks for the Video and Take Care.

And how does one recharge one of those fancy high output batteries if there aren't spares ready and the power is out? Using a common type means there's always some spares in a drawer or a few able to be scavenged from some other electronics.

pauljs75 I have portable solar panels from goalzero and powerfilm that will charge either the light directly, a charger or a usb battery bank which I can then use to top up a light.

@@livingsurvival Don't forget that if you have an Auto, you can use Car Chargers to keep Spares topped off while Driving. I just avoid use the 24/7 Outlet on my Dodge Minivan to keep my Car Battery at its peak.

Fwiw, I have a sipik sk68 (that cheap, aa zoom light you see everywhere) that's held up pretty damn well. Had it since 2014. It's a backup/loaner light at work. My real edc is a 2015 eagtac d25c ti.. haven't been able to replace it because I just love the tint. My dad gave it to me.. he resells em for $5-10

I understand your grief over too many lights. I have only one. Catapult V6 because of the long life of the battery at low levels. I would like to see your videos lean more towards being similar to "Survivorman". Les did a great job and I think you're knowledgeable enough to mimic his show.

Just picked up a Ray O Vac pen light from Walmart for under $4. Liked it so much I bought 4 more.Try it if you don't have one already. Easy to carry, AAA Battery, and made good enough. If you lose it .....so what. PERFECT

Yeah I'm definitely not a tactical flashlight specialist lol. I'm probably close to CP's generation, from the time when MagLight was considered the only serious brand lol. Generally found my niche by trial and error over the years. Lately its been a modest 240 lumen Police Security brand flashlight. Bought one at Autozone about 5 years ago now for about $10, it's still alive after 5 years and a lot of abuse so I just got another one off of eBay. I also got another 1000 lumen LED flashlight called Shadowhawk off ebay which I damn near blinded myself looking down a gun barrel with cause I'm not used to having a flashlight that bright lol. Hope I didn't do too much permanent damage, it actually says in the instruction booklet the light can damage your eyes. Too bad I didn't read that first. Definitely thinking about getting an Olight penlight, they're one of the few flashlights that puts the clip on the right way so you can actually clip it to something and use it.

I've used a 120(?) lumen Bushnell from Walmart for a couple years. Takes one AA, lasts a long time, carry it for work everyday. Dropped it off a roof a couple times, dropped it in puddles, all sorts of crap. It serves it's purpose, it works. If I'm hunting a sasquatch or working night shift for security, I'd go more premium, of course. But for everyday stuff, a simple flashlight will do the job.

I'm interested in your opinion of surefire. I am very happy with surefire. I've compared many different flashlights. And, for me, at any given lumen rating and in the conditions I use flashlights, surefire always beats the competition. Also, the reliability/quality is very high.

Here's what I think of when I hear surefire: Overpriced, Proprietary, and over five years behind technology. Lets face it they dupe military and police into buying these which we pay for through our tax dollars. So you all own surefires you just don't get to use them.
